Cheers Kazza, I am in Hong Kong so it's good to be kept up to date with the rates.

Also, am I right in thinking that you can increase but not decrease your monthly subscription to this account?

my belief is monthly payments cant be changed, they have to be the same as first one, i kept 100.00 in instant access account until my monthly 20.00 subs had reached 100.00 i then closed the instant access account

I have one of these accounts (I am a 'local') and have been very impressed by the level of service offered by this building society compared with some of the other financial institutions I have accounts with.

That's right. Upwards only and when you do you have to keep to the new higher amount. Bit inflexible but the rate's not bad.
Sorry to contradict you bristolleedsfan, you are usually correct. ;-)

a lot of building societies play the cant decrease but can increase to stop people opening with 100 then dropping to 20, now i opened mine in person at an agency i already had a long standing instant access account with 1.00 in it, after being told i couldnt start the reg saver off with 100 then drop it to 20, i then asked well can i open it with 20 then increase it 1 month then decrease it another month i was told no, i was told the monthly payments had to remain the same ( some let u change amounts on the anniversary my conversation with bath didnt go that far), before i posted earlier i did look on bath website and i didnt c an answer

i agree with u dawn and that tends to be the case with smaller building societies, monmouth and ipswich are the same very friendly and good with the communications, its a pity when the smaller building societies that have good products and are friendly get swallowed up imo

bristolleedsfan, it's funny how one KNOWS something until challenged, isn't it? Your post made me check the T&Cs and there is room for doubt!
Under "Restrictions on Deposits" it says: ... 12 monthly payments required at the agreed level between £20 and £250." That would make me think you have to keep to the same level for 12 months.
Under "You need to be aware" it says: ... Your SO can be increased at any time, but not decreased." So I think that will supercede the first condition.
    No wonder people get confused!

my initial instant access account was opened in 1996 and ended up dormant, bath wrote to me but i couldnt find my passbook ( only had a few pounds in it), so as to reinstate 100.00 by end of dec 2006 i opened a new instant access account with 100.00, i also opened a R/S with monthly subs of 20.00, bath head office sorted out the dormant account with my instructions to transfer the balance to my then new I/A account, bath head office emailed me, i emailed back and asked about can R/S payments be varied and head office said nope, sadly after my R/S reached 100.00 and i closed my I/A account i deleted baths email ( like u said a positive term and condition will always superceed a negative term and condition)

i actually wonder how many building societies would bother to much if people did vary the payments, which was y i asked few weeks ago if anybody had got away with varying furness BS R/S

i know britannia R/S can only be varied once a year

monmouth BS contradict themselves as well :rotfl:

"Save a fixed amount from £20 to £1,000 a month"

"You can change your monthly subscription at any time by giving us written notice of the new amount"

monmouth did allow me to open account with 100.00 then give them immediate notice ( with application form lol) to change future payments starting with second payment to 20.00 :rotfl:
