Who else has a "Messy Chair"?
No matter how hard I try there is one chair which my family invariably dump things on - I could equally call it the "Magic Chair" because if people dump stuff on it then it magically gets moved and may even reappear clean and folded in wardrobes and drawers  This is our "Messy Chair" - feel free to share yours! (and…

Christmas Pudding
It’s that time of the year again when minds turn to Christmas at the moment I’m thinking Christmas pudding This year I’ll not need as much as I have in previous so I was wondering whether or not I could steam a two pound Christmas pudding and immediately after taking them from the freezer transfer them to two one pound…

Rice beyond the best before date
At the back of the cupboard I have found a number of pack Uncle Bens boil in the bag wholegrain rice that is 6 years beyond its best before date. As it is just dry rice would this still be OK to use. I also found some Uncle Bens express microwave rice of a similar age but I think I will throw this out as I assume it is…

Lekue Microwave Grill
Just after a bit of advice... I've ordered this item from L akeland as it had great reviews. My DM has a hankering for toasties but her gas grill is broken and cannot be repaired or easily replaced (built in / 80s). Thought I would try this for her and would appreciate any 'reviews' from users here. Good? Bad? Indifferent?…

Cheapest butter?
Hi everyone, I am trying my hardest to get out of debt and have cut my budget so much. My biggest savings I can make tend to be on food shopping, but as a mother of a hungry hollow legged fussy teenager I find I spent a lot on snacks! ok maybe not a lot to most people but more than I'd like to! So I've decided to try…

New horizons living the dream. How?
Hi all I have realised over the last few years that I am living to work and not working to live. I work in a Professional capacity in a demanding role with a long daily commute. Throughout the years I have had to juggle family, children, continuous studying and have been proud of my achievements and career. But..... I am…

Cooking a whole chicken
I am weighing up the cost of buying a whole small chicken opposed to buying separate chicken breasts and ready meals in between. My friend cooks a whole chicken for her and her child (her partner is vegetarian) and says it lasts all week, with some for the cat too. I live alone and have two cats, who would appreciate some…

Bleach marks appearing on clothing. Possibly washing machine?
Really no idea where on the message board to put this question tbh. I thought this forum possibly a better bet than the others. Can a mod please move it if it's better suited elsewhere? Anyway looking to see if anyone can offer a bit of advice. We've been noticing for a little while random clothing ending up with bleach…

How do you record your expenses?
I'm trying to set up a spreadsheet to record my expenses but am not sure how to go about it. Do you list every direct debit or everything you spend? I know direct debits and transactions can be seen on your online statement anyway so is there any point in recording in separately.
