Limescale in toilet

Hi I have limescale at the back of my toilet where it flushes. I've tried removing it with Cillett bang but It didn't work. can you tell me the best way of removing it without ruining the toilet?

We live in a chalky area and this has caused problems.

Thanks.

  • Well, the 19 pages of useful replies in the existing thread you just posted in might have some :)

do make sure NEVER to allow vinegar and bleach to come into contact with each other though - both are separately recommended in that thread.

If you mix them, you create "mustard gas" - chlorine gas - which was poisonous and killed and maimed soldiers a century ago in the Flanders trenches and can seriously injure or even kill you in the home...

One or the other - NEVER both!

The black Harpic is pretty good - our loo had been left for a very long time before we moved in, and after trying pretty much every DIY remedy for limescale (cola, vinegar, denture tablets, washing powder and so on) the only thing that really worked was this, after a couple of goes.

Another trick, soak loo paper in the limescale remover and stick it to the higher up lime for some hours. Also, limescale can be a sign of a slow drip leak from the cistern, which will wash away high up scale removing gel before it takes effect.
