Also, limescale can be a sign of a slow drip leak from the cistern, which will wash away high up scale removing gel before it takes effect.

I am disabled so this is worrying, should I call a plumber?
If the limescale is really bad take the water out first.

I would do but being disabled is a problem.
  • Pump the loo brush up and down to push the water round the bend, it takes a while but eventually you'll have it almost empty. Black Harpic is the answer in my experience. The only other thing that worked for me was citric acid - I had some left from an experiment making home-made bath bombs. I tipped it down the loo and it worked brilliantly.

Is it above the water or below? For scale under the water I found the harpic tablets to be effective. Two at once left for 12 hours if possible. Available for in some bargain shops.
  • HG do a toilet restorer kit that worked for me. Found it in B&Q.

It's the limescale remover tablets for toilets that work for me.

You could use a pumice stone. It's softer than porcelain so won't scratch
