This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Cake for you Mrs Salad Dodger :bdaycake: I didn't realise it was your birthday, sorry it's late :D

Eon have just refunded me over £200 because I'm in credit, but at the same time put my DD up by £13 per month  Isn't the point to spread the cost over the year, it builds up in summer so you're covered during the winter when you use more?

Mr tru is going away for the weekend :j He booked it so long ago that I'd forgotten about it. He'll be gone from mid-morning tomorrow til teatime on sunday. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it :D My housework, which I usually do a bit at a time, will all be done today so I can have the weekend off. I recorded a couple of films a while ago so I'll be watching them. And my series on Netflix. I have lots of yarn, three new books and chocolate. Scamp is very considerate and sleeps in the afternoons so I'm really going to enjoy this :D

  • Good morning, and thank you SO for starting off. It looks damp outside, don't know how cold it is. It rained heavily yesterday evening.

Yesterday went as planned, I went to Dob*ies with a friend, and bought the gift voucher I wanted, so that's something else I can tick off.

I'll have to get cards sent off for our Australian family, and send money for the children, as the weeks are slipping away. When the children were small we used to send presents via surface mail, but it became hard to find suitable things that didn't cost a fortune to send.
Then we started to order from Australian stores after Ds had researched, and sent us links - we would order and have stuff gift wrapped and delivered.
Now they're a bit older and know what to do with money(!) we send money via the internet, much easier.

We looked after youngest Ds yesterday afternoon for a bit while Dd took the pup to the vets.

    That was it for yesterday.

Today I have a bit of shopping, and while I'm out I'll check out a new Italian restaurant that's opened on our High Street - our book club are hoping to go there after our next session in December, for lunch.it's our little Christmas celebration. I've got numbers, so I'll make a booking if I can.

The ironing pile has been reduced a bit, but I really should keep at it. Once I start I'm fine, it's the getting started.

Dh seems to have a grouting/sealant bug, he finished in the bathroom, he's now scanning the grouting in the kitchen to see if anything needs doing. He's replaced the sealant behind the sink and hob.

Hope everyone has a good day, sorry to hear you have a relative in hospital NMLC. Also thoughts to Snoozer and her family, and everyone else who is having a hard time at the moment.

    Take care folks

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I've popped the heating on as my grandchildren are going to be here in a minute and it's a bit chilly. I had a bit of a meltdown last night and went to bed at 8pm as I couldn't cope any more so I have been awake since 1am but I feel loads better thank goodness.

Lee had a really good day in college, he made rocky road to take in and share around which helped his confidence. He is going to be sorting out the hellhole which is his room today as he has broken his bed and we can't replace it until his room is cleared. I foresee much procrastination :(.

Not sure what we will be having for tea tonight, we have plenty in so I will ask Phoebe to go on a freezer dive and see what she fancies. She made faggoty pea stew yesterday which was very welcome especially by Steve as he was frozen by the time he came home after waiting around for buses.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone

silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

snoozer - so sorry to hear your sad news, thinking of you all x

Still dark, and temperature dropped but still not cold for the time of year. Should be a reasonable day here according to the forecasters, we'll see.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he'll be running and then going to the gym.

Dinner last night was a bit disjointed as DH came home early then had to go back for a while later on. Everyone fed that needed to be, pork steaks, mash and veg. Tonight I'm thinking of liver, bacon and sausage, mash, peas and gravy.

Work yesterday wasn't too bad, although we did have some busy spells, now on days' off but back in on Saturday. I'll be working my way through the "to do" list.

Heard last night that relative that is very poorly seems to be being sent home - there doesn't seem to be the relevant care in place as this now needs to be 24 hour - family member I spoke to last night not at all happy with the situation. With how poorly they are reported to be either staying in hospital or moved to a hospice where they can take proper care of the pain relief needs etc would have been a better plan.

I'll be heading into town to visit the bank and building society first thing but GPO to post of a letter en route. Will visit the butcher in SM on the way home to get liver and sausage, I already have bacon. I like to buy liver on the day I'm going to use it.

    Keep safe and well x

Thank you everyone for your condolences. Laura spent the day yesterday at the hospital because they have opted to take part in a study so they are receiving much more attention than most people who go through this. Obviously she is sad but is trying to be positive because as she said, at least she got pregnant once, so she can do it again.

We're off to Chris and Crystal's this morning to wait for a delivery and then may go down to see Laura, depending how she feels.

LW, good to see you posting. Hugs to all the poorlies and sad today.

Oh and belated happy birthday for Mrs SD.
  • Tru, just read your post about your energy provider putting your DD up.

Our company want to put ours up by a whacking £38 a month!! There's only two of us, and we were away loads during the summer. How on earth they can justify that I don't know, we are going to have to ring them.

As you say, the summer payment is supposed to balance out the winter. I'll be interested to see what they say.

    Morning everyone

snoozer - just had a thought from when we were in a similar situation to Laura and her partner/husband, everyone is very concerned and supportive to the female but the men tend to get forgotten a bit, so it's important for them to be supported too. (It's difficult with men being all macho/ not show their emotions etc .....). I knew I needed to have help/therapy with my grief but my doc in his wisdom told me that as I was able to talk about it then I didn't need it and he wouldn't refer me - it's taken a long time to move forward from it and it does stay with you always you don't every "get over" it you learn to live with it.

Please PM me if you need to and I'm more than happy help/support if I can.

Kind regards, keep safe and well

  • Morning :hello: everybody - looks dry outside just now but rain is the forecast for today :(.

silver_oldie - thanks for starting us off this morning. Sorry to read that you've not had a good night's sleep :(.

camelot1001 - DEFINITELY time to have the winter coats at the ready. Enjoy your catch up this evening.

tru - I hope you argued with them about putting up your DD. I did that a couple of years ago with SP - just REFUSED POINT BLANK for them to hoik it up. I was right and they even REDUCED it at the end of that winter :T. Enjoy your 'Me Time' for the next couple of days :j.

ScarlettRibbons - good luck with booking the Christmas Lunch for your Book Club - sounds like good fun and, as they've not long opened, I'm sure they'll welcome festive bookings.

dumpling - have a lovely day with the dgk's :D and here's hoping that Lee manages to get his room sorted out :(. So pleased that he had a good day in College yesterday :j. Isn't it a joy when you see them finally making progress with their confidence and belief in themselves :T.

nmlc - hope work goes well today. Sorry to hear about hospital wanting to discharge a very sick relative without 'necessary care package' in place - that's disgusting. Hope that decision gets dealt with satisfactorily for everybody's sake :undecided. So right about how 'men/fathers' can be easily overlooked when it comes to counselling after the loss of a baby - very well-mirrored by the current storyline in Emmerdale :(.

snoozer - wtg Laura! How positive and brave of her to volunteer to take part in the study - hope all goes well for them both for the future :).

Had a good day yesterday with DGS1 and DGD2. Nathan doesn't say very much about what he does at his College/Farm, but Caitlin has told me that he's got some kind of qualification for working with 'Small Animals' - I'll have to double-check with DD to be sure of what it is. Caitlin was still 'very wheezy' all day, so she'll be having today off school as well - hence she came back home with me for a second 'overnighter' ;). Still 'in the Land of Nod' at the moment, but I'll have to wake her up shortly, or we'll be chasing our tails to get to her house for Nathan. Need to find a couple of tubs of HM Soup to take with me for their lunch - yesterday they had Leek&Potato and it went down really well :j.

Sending ((((HGUS)))) to everybody who needs them and prayers for all who want them. Have a really good Oldstyle Day - luv Ollie xxx
