This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning
Up really early today as I have a new mattress arriving this morning and they have given me a slot of between 7am-11am. Course now I an up and sorted I bet I get the 11am slot.
Stripped the bedding which is now in the wash so that I can get some nice fresh ones on my mattress. Doubt this will dry in time so time to rummage in the airing cupboard....I do get lazy in the summer and just wash dry and replace.
I finally opted for the Premier Inn mattress as I have tested them out loads and always slept well. Hoping this may help with my poor sleep but I cant expect too much I suppose.
Mum day went OK yesterday although her progressing loss of memory is clear now. I have to really pull myself back from getting annoyed when she asks me the same question over and over again. I am not blessed with lots of patience but having to learn quickly. Yesterdays hot topic was the amount of leaves in her garden and why the council doesn't remove them...she owns the house. Anyway she wont see a doctor so will have to live with it.
Had lunch out so not much needed in the evening. Tonight I will freezer rummage again.
Have a lovely day all if you can:A

Morning all
Thought i would let someone else start off this morning:p
I went to the ikea thing last night but didn't sign up as you had to allow advertising photos of your family and home there was a financial incentive of over £100 in vouchers but i really value our privacy so dont think it was for us, there will be workshops and info days that anyone can go to so i may go along to those.
Its wet n windy here this morning so i bet Dolly doesn't want to go out but needs must. Today the charity is coming to get the bedroom furniture that has been sitting in the lounge for nearly a week so i will make a start on having a good clear up after it goes. Mum liked the blinds i chose so all was well but then she called me later because she had lost her purse and some money indoors i told her to sit quietly then start looking again cue a call 15 mins later as she had found itshe panics and then it just get worse so i have to put my stern voice on and it usually works out ok
Dinner tonight sausage n mash other than that just the usual household tasks to be done
Hugs to all those with worries or who are unwell
Have a great day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini0 -
Morning All
I woke up at 4 for the loo and couldn't get back to sleep. The ironing has been done and the dishwasher emptied. I would put the hoover round but don't want to wake the neighbours!
Pleased to hear your DD has started her new job Dumpling, hope Lee enjoyed his day at college.
Get well soon wishes to Gers.
It won't be your last 'date night' with your Gran Specky, it'll just be a little longer between dates. Sounds like you're all organised for your move, your family must be very proud of you.
I went for a haircut after work, feel so much better now. On my way home I had a wander around Waitrose, didn't buy much but I do like a nosey in the calm of the shop, no music blaring out makes it a much better supermarket than the others but sadly a little too expensive for all the shopping!
No swimming this morning as the pool doesn't open until 10 on a Wednesday, if the weather is ok tonight I'll go for a walk to the bottle bank.
Have a good day, take care. XX0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Nelski
Gentle hugs for all who want or need them.
Organza_Lace sorry life is so difficult for you.
Speky I'm sure you will have many more date nights with your gran
topsyturphy our dgs lives about 15 miles away from us, it will be a few years until he could travel on his own. Last Christmas when his Mum was saying how difficult it was shopping when it was very busy I suggested she leave him with us for a few hours. I asked dgs if he would like to visit us on his own, he looked very thoughtful and said no I can't, why I asked, I can't drive yet Nanny
He never did get to decorate our Christmas tree for usIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -

Organza_Lace When master tru was a teen we didn't get along, there were lots of rows. I thought it was a bit too much but was assured by others that it was normal. But when he got a bit older, we got on great (and still do!). We joke that it's our stubborn my family's name blood, lol. A couple of years later tension started to show between him and mr tru, and got worse and worse. Some of it was master tru knowing everything about life and telling us we were wrong about most things – you know that meme “Move out now, while you still know everything!” - well that was written for him, lol. I often wondered what would happen if I asked him to leave, but of course you don't want to do that. But after a while it became clear that it was mostly caused by mr tru constantly trying to show that he was the man of the house. I started to notice that the house felt tense when they were both here, or when just mr tru was - but not when just master tru was. Master tru has been living with his girlfriend for almost a year and he's never been happier. He gets on with mr tru now, but when he visits it's mostly when I'm here by myself and only occasionally when mr tru is home. I don't think mr tru realises how much he's damaged their relationship. Not really sure what the point of this is, I don't have a solution for you, I wish I did xx
Something to make you smile – I grin a bit every time you mention Grump. I taught Scampi everyone's names and for mr tru, I taught him Mr Grumpy
A water pipe burst on the path on the corner last thursday night, on friday morning it was sectioned off and three-way traffic lights were set up. Men worked all day friday, and haven't been seen since. They left the fences out in the road, they needed all the space while they were working but if no-one is going to be there for days I think they should've left the road open properly. People were getting irritated with the lights when there's no need for them, especially during rush hour when it's busy at the best of times. Turns out they fixed the problem straight away but no-one bothered to remove the lights and fences! They finally removed them last night and we're back to normal.
I watched a crow drag a paper bag across the road yesterday. Every time a car came along, he walked onto the path then went back to drag it a few more inches. This happened a few times, eventually he dragged it onto the path. He obviously really wanted whatever was in it. I didn't stay to see what happened next, he was quite close to us and Scamp was ready to chase him, but I would love to know what he did with it
We had a few small fireworks going off here last night, Scamp ignored them and carried on pottering around the garden. I hope all your pets are OK too x
My books have arrived, I can't wait to get stuck in but I'm being strict with myself and must finish my list of jobs first.

Morning everyone
Nelski - thank's for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, so he can run and then catch a lift with me and go to the gym.
Still dark here, but damp underfoot, some rain forecast.
Dinner last night was roast chicken with rice, there was honey and mustard sauce as DH is picky with food and doesn't like it dry, so need to do a gravy/sauce - but this sauce was awful and we've had it before and it's never tasted like that - cue much moaning from himself, just ignored him otherwise he may have been wearing it! Tonight we'll be having pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy.
Work at the moment is very busy, yesterday was manic all morning but then did slow down in the afternoon. We'll see what today brings, I'm on days' off from tomorrow, but working Saturday morning.
In other news, we have family member very poorly in hospital, and there's nothing more that can be done, and they have now been moved into a side room and are being sedated and are not responsive - trying to support my family as much as possible.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
Well, it's a wet morning here, the rain was lashing down in the early hours but it's more of a drizzle now. Steve has left for work but he made me a very welcome cup of tea before he went. The kids are all fast asleep at the moment but give it half an hour and they will all be getting up and squabbling over who gets to shower first .
Lee's college experience went very well although he was tired when he came home. He is back in today for Maths and English and he said he was looking forward to it.
I am going to ask Phoebe to walk the dogs and cook dinner as she is home all day today. She will be glad to go to work for a rest at this rate. I still cannot stand for more than a minute but I am hopeful this will improve. The nurse is coming to check my legs today and I think they are a lot better than they were so that is positive.
My sister came to see me yesterday and said that her daughter had put up her Christmas tree :eek:. We think she is quite mad but she has always been crazy for Christmas and she said it made her feel happy. Ours isn't going up until the first of December and even then I feel it's a bit early but we always put it up before Lee's birthday as it makes him feel special.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nelski and hugs to all those in need.
CHS has a meeting at work today, I'm dropping him off then going to the Dr's to organise his sick note until end of January and get a repeat prescription sorted.
We are then taking one of the dgd's for lunch in a small church run cafe.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -

Wet and very windy here which means we are in for a day of it today, the wind seems to make the clients more hyper for some reason so they will all be full of it today.
Off to work for me but its the last day of mt working week so not too bad.
Meatballs for dinner with an Ikea sauce and mash and green beans and broccoli and the redcurrant jam they serve, OH loves this meal so we are going to try it at home.
Will have a quick tidy through tonight and pack a very small bag to take with me only need clean undies and a top for the evening really.
Right best get on have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning, Earlybirds :hello: - still dark and rather damp looking outdoors with low-cloud right now, but no signs of overnight frost
. Sunshine AND rain forecast for us with 13C - talk about 'covering all your bases'
!
Nelski - thanks for starting the thread for today. Hope that your new mattress 'does the trick' for you and that it's delivered early in the morning. Sorry to hear that your DM won't visit the GP - would you be able to speak to the surgery to voice your concerns? They may then ask for Mum to go in for one of their 'Annual MOT's' :undecided.
bellabella - I don't think I would have wanted to have photographers invading my home either, but it could be good to keep up to date with other aspects of 'sustainability' - especially if you live fairly close to an IKEA.
camelot1001 - sorry you had 'an early start to your day'- but at least you're now 'ahead of the game' for the day :j. Being in an upstairs flat, I never put the washing machine on, OR get Little Henry out, before 9.00am - like you, I think it's just 'common courtesy'
. I don't think I'd shop regularly in W8rose either - our nearest is in Crosby which is 'Footballers' Wives Territory'.
silver_oldie - lol at your 'topsyturphy dgs' - they have their own logic, and it's often much simpler than ours!
tru - you're so right about 'teenage boys'/'dads' relationships - as the boys get into their late teens, they can start to jostle with their dads for 'alpha male position'. In the animal world, that's when they get 'kicked out of the herd' to find their own female and 'establish their own herd' .............. as mothers, we're blessed (or cursed) with loving devotion for them - more's the pity :rotfl:. Typical workmen with those lights/fences.
nmlc - what a shame about the Honey/Mustard Sauce. It's not one of those 'new and improved' versions, is it :undecided.
dumpling - hope you find that your legs have improved when the nurses visit today. Good Luck to Lee with his Maths and English today :T.
Hester - Hope that CHS's meeting in work goes well and that you get his note extended. Enjoy your lunch with dgd.
redruby - have a good day in work - hope the clients aren't too bad for you and enjoy your IKEA-style dinner :j.
((((GENTLE HUGS)))) to all who need them - thinking especially of TA and Poppy and all who are unwell or caring for others.
Plans for today include Nathan-sitting till his mum gets home from College Course. I've had his younger sister - DGD2 (age 11) - here overnight. Her Asthma has been playing her up overnight and now she's complaining of 'tummy ache' - so it's a 'poorly Caitlin' this morning. She wants a fresh poppy today - lost the last one - so will take her to the British Legion Seller in our local High Street once the shops are open and before we go to check on Nathan.
Have a good day, everybody - luv from Ollie xx0 -
Morning it’s wet here today. Weigh in at fat club today. After that I am going to tesc&o after we need a few things. Then on to work just at lunch today then I am going to have a good tidy up put all the now dry washing away. Dd has a bonfire tonight at scouts and one at the scout camp on Thursday so will have to wash her uniform ready for Remembrance Day on Sunday or it will smell of smoke0
