O/S Daily Saturday 3rd November 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

  • Morning folks and thanks bellabella for the kick off. It feels much milder this morning but apparently we have gales on the way tomorrow.

Yesterday was a day of memories for DD and I as we were tackling an awning full of stuff and cramming it all in the caravan. We got in a pickle trying to dismantle the Ikea chairs that won't fit in the van in one piece. That's always been Bob's job and DD said dad will be looking down on us with much eye rolling at the mess we are making of it!

We were worn out by the time we had finished and my dodgy hip was giving me lots of grief. DD's bf is taking over today, taking awning down and covering the decking and finally putting the cover over the van. It'll be hard work on his own. DS usually helps but he is working all hours this week as his firm is being taken over and all sorts to sort out in readiness. He has no idea how his job will pan out.

I have lots of stuff piled up in the hall from the van, awaiting getting stored in the loft for the winter. Sadly my days of clambering up into the loft are over and it will have to sit there until someone more able bodied can do it!

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad or worried who need them. Thinking of HOLLY, POPPY, -TAFF. And grr to the rude woman at the outlet -TAFF. Take care all xxx

    Morning everyone

bellabella - thanks for starting us off, sounds like you've been busy with the decorating, DH has some planned later in the month.

Cloudy but dry underfoot, not sure about the temperature.

We're enjoying first peaceful cuppas this morning, I didn't wake at my usual time and slept in a bit longer.

Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, veg and gravy - lovely it was and there's no LO's menfolk had second helpings. Tonight will be southern fried chicken portions, hot quiche, salad, chips/jacket potatoes.

Yesterday I got the food shopping done and then tackled the ironing and had a few admin type jobs to get done too. I continued with the washing and drying.

I'll be heading to town this morning to visit the building society.

    Keep safe and well x

Lovely to hear the news about Holly :T Thank you Nels xx

I was proud of myself at my dentist check-up – one tooth had a small hole and I agreed to have it filled there and then :D Though I kept my eyes screwed tightly shut til he'd finished :D

Scampi managed a short walk around the middle of Tetbury, he shied away from a couple of dogs but was a happy little thing, his tail wagged the whole time and he even said hello to a few people :D There were fireworks last night, he barked and ran around with his fur up for a while then calmed down when he realised he wasn't under attack. The fireworks carried on and he stayed curled up on the bed. Adaptil (I keep typing apadtil then have to go back and correct myself!) and happy bones are wonderful things :D

We'll be staying local today, I'll amble around with Scamp for a while and hope he meets some of his mates at the park. I'll just be pottering at home after that, working my way through little jobs between cups of coffee :D

    Morning All

What a horrible wet and windy start it is here, hope you're OK Gers, it will be worse where you are.
Good news about Holly, thanks for keeping us updated Nelski, hope you're recovering from your visitors!
Sorry you had to go through that taff, makes me mad.
    Welcome Bozwood.

I've been wrapping Christmas presents this week, the DGCs are all done along with some others. Must clear the rest away as DS1 and DGC are coming today and staying until tomorrow. DS1 is currently homeless, his ex's Sister wanted her house back and only gave him a few weeks notice. He is renting somewhere else but can't get the keys until next Friday.

I'm going to Yoga this morning then going for some supplies, went to Aldi last night but forgot some things and some things they don't do so Asda it is!

Hope you all have a good weekend. Take care. XX

Just watched the Aldi advert - hope Kevin's OK!

    Morning folks.

Yes, it's very windy and wet here, wild wind overnight. My visitor decided to drive straight down to Balloch after coming off the Gigha ferry last night - that made so much sense as he's then not driving 80 miles in the rotten weather this morning. He lives on the east coast, in Northumberland, so it's calmer there.

A good consequence of him not coming back here was I could stay in bed:j a combination of sleep and paracetamol has helped. The cough is in my upper respiratory area so not down in my chest (so far) and that's where it needs to stay. I only appeared out of bed for refreshement and comfort breaks. Plenty of fluids and hot toast with Marmite!

My plans for today are to sit here and do the internet banking end of month chores, eat my breakfast and then probably go back up to bed to read. As the weather is forecast to be so awful I will stay here. It'll be such a shame if the community fireworks and bonfire event is ruined. A large bonfire is built every year on a spit of land at the front of the village- it's cut off by the sea until the tide goes out. Vans of men with pallets wait for low tide to build up the structure - this year it looks like a wooden castle.

Thinking about everyone - good news about Holly. Camelot - what a treat having the family to stay. TA - hope you can rest some more now, it's more a mental relaxation too. Tru - well done that dog! Poppy - hope you're doing OK.

    Happy Saturday to everyone.

    Welcome Bozwood.

TA the bird table sounds lovely, try and find time for yourself

Thinking of Holly, taff and hope poppy is ok
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.......

Another bright but dreadfully cold morning, OH opened the back door and it felt like the arctic. He shut it pretty quick.

After yesterdays news from the Dr other things began to make sense, I know you`'shrink' a bit as you get older but 5 inches is a lot........clothes I had that used to be just below my knee are now almost ankle length.........

Not sure if I am going to sew today or not, I might just give it a rest till Monday.

The bank balance has taken a hammering this month, I have paid the bill for the garden and the carers bill hase come in......so a little economy is going to have to be practised. I do have cash in a savings account but its earmarked for something else.

Lamb out for tomorrow will stud it with garlic and leave it marinading in red wine until I m ready to cook it tomorrow.

    Chicken pie for supper tonight.
