Bosch Washer Dryer help
Hi My daughter has a Bosch Exxcel Maxx Freedom Performance washer dryer - model number WVT 1260GB/01. On wash cycle the water isn't heating and on dryer mode there's no heat, so clothes aren't drying. Anyone able to offer any advice? Thanks

Rayburn Cooking
Are there any old stylers who cook using Rayburns? I have an oil fuelled Alpha range that has an intermittent cooker fault. As Alpha no longer exist getting spares is difficult and there is an aging and diminishing service engineering resource, so we have decided to get a Rayburn. We need both the heating and cooking…

Steaming Christmas Pudding
I’ll be making a number of Christmas puddings this weekend. They will be in those little plastic jars with the snap on lids. For steaming purposes; rather than steaming the traditional way i.e. covering the top with foil and tie a piece of string around the foil can you just put the plastic cap on, or would that be to…

OS gardening/allotmenteering - traditions, money saving and savvy ideas
I'm just back from my plot, sat down with my cuppa and thought about picking up my wool bag to start knitting. Then it came to me - knitted hanging basket liners. I know what my yarn ends will be made into come the spring. :D Some other things I've done today was continue putting my rabbit bedding/manure on bed 1. Used…

Weekly Flylady Thread 12th November 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Barley Wine
I’m making Delia Smith’s Christmas Pudding this year. Two of the ingredients are 75ml barley wine, 75ml stout. As someone who only uses drink in cooking I don’t particularly fancy charging around my town looking for it. Delia’s food editor when asked for a subsitute suggested using strong cider, which surprised me. Other…

Freebies! Are you pro or anti?
:) Since I've been aiming at a more decluttered life, I've become very skittish about accepting freebies. Even if they are, in principle, useful or potentially useful freebies. For various reasons; to avoid clutter at home or office, to reduce waste, to discourage the perpetrators of freebies from creating more of the…

garden clock
I know that this should perhaps go on 'green-fingered' but I know this board better and that folk on here have a lot of experience. I have a relative who loves her garden, and I thought that a garden clock would be a nice idea. We don't have a good garden centre locally (I could make a special journey if I need to) so I…

Christmas hamper help
Hi everyone, I have a friend with 2 children and they are really struggling financially at the moment. For Christmas I would like to give them a food hamper, but the commercial ones are not really practical (to fancy and not very good value)so I want to make my own, filled with more practical food. My budget is about £80…
