Old Style Daily Sunday 11th November

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning everyone :hello:
The rain is lashing down here but I am grateful to be warm and dry. Everyone is asleep I hope, even the dogs are snoring away in the living room.

Lee had a big wobble last night so I was up till late with him. I am not surprised as even though he enjoyed going to college, it was way out of his comfort zone plus he had to cope with catching a bus and all the social interaction. I am sick with worry as this was when it all went really wrong last year. He is seeing his care co ordinator on Monday so I hope he will open up to him and get some more support.

I was so sad to read Holly's news, she doesn't seem to get a break. If you are reading this Holly then I am sending you a big cwtch and a cuddle xx
Gers, I hope your mum is comfortable and that you are on the mend xx
Speky, good luck in your new life in Manchester, please keep us updated on how it is all going xx
Welcome purple kitten, I hope you will stay around, it will be lovely to learn more about your life xx
snoozer, hugs to you too, I think your daughter is so brave. Today is the 17th anniversary of my miscarriage, even though I went on to have Lee, I will never forget.

Steve is on domestics today and I think we are having roast pork. I am going to be resting my legs as they are starting to hurt again and I need to keep them up. I feel so useless at the moment as I cannot stand for more than a minute but I am still hopeful that things will improve.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday whatever you are doing, take care xx
• Good morning, and thanks for starting off Dumpling.

Seems damp out there this morning. Yesterday was a nice day mild and sunny,

I did a biggish shop yesterday, by my standards anyway, at a T*sco hypermarket a few miles away. I know they're not the cheapest, but there were things I wanted which i know Morries don't have.

They had a Philli*ps iron on offer, half price. so I got it, mine has seen better days. I like a Phill*ps iron, I've had a few over the years.

Today i was going to go into Newcastle with a friend, but she now can't go, so I'll stay at home. If I go on a weekday it won't be as crowded anyway. She only suggested Sunday because she's widowed, and finds Sundays a bit of a long day, because usually she doesn't have any visitors, and doesn't go out on her own.

There's stuff I can do here anyway, there always seems to be stuff I can do here! I might nip into our little town to M&C* - they had some nice towels when i was last in, but I was already carrying stuff and didn't want to add bulky towels to my load.

Nelski, please pass on my good wishes to Holly. It seems strange that the cancer in herr breast wasn't diagnosed at the same time as the other.. I've had invasive breast cancer and I knew from the start what the situation was. There again, there will be things we don't know. Hope she'll get through this ok.

Thinking of everyone who is sad and/or worried.

Take care folks.

Morning hello.gif

I was gutted to read Holly's news :( But pleased that she's being seen to immediately.
I don't suppose she feels much like celebrating but I don't want to ignore her birthday - Happy Birthday Holly :bdaycake: and remember we're all thinking of you xx

Speky Good luck in your new job :D

redruby I'm glad you and miss RR had a good time :D

I'm really hoping they're going to make another season of The Haunting Of Hill House, I loved it :D

Scamp learned a long time ago that post being pushed through the letterbox is perfectly safe. But yesterday he was growling at the door, hackles up. I stood in the lounge doorway and he slowly backed towards me, still growling. He backed through my legs til he was behind me, so I went to the door to see what was going on. There was a large letter hanging from the letterbox with a big picture of a hedgehog's face staring at me :D I said 'oh, it's the post' (post is what I said when I was teaching him it was safe). Immediately, the growling stopped, fur went back to normal and he trotted back to his blanket :D

I've removed some broken drawers from an old cheap chest of drawers, and cut the bottom off a tatty old unit so I could fit it in sideways, where the drawers used to be. Hope that made sense, lol. I'm using it as storage for crafty bits and pieces til I can get the large shelving unit into the room. There's a bit more floor space now and I even vacuumed it :D

Another wet day here. We managed to avoid the rain on our last few walks, hopefully we'll time it well again today :D I want to be at home at 11am, my great-gramp served in WW1 and my gramp (same side of the family, so his son) served in WW2 so it's important for me to be somewhere quiet at that time.

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Dumpling
Welcome PK I usually ‘see’ you over on the 5 pleasures board :D another one here who worries about the sameness of her posts so please so stick around.

It’s raining here but is meant to brighten up later, yesterday afternoon it chucked it down and I got soaked riding Lu, hopefully my tack will have dried out by tomorrow.
I had to smile at Scampi and the post TRU, we don’t have a letterbox in our door but a separate box outside and little dog knows the word post as well when I pick the keys up and say shall we check the post.
It’s roast pork for dinner here, DSS is playing football so I will do him a plate to heat up later, his Dad is starting to get a bit fed up as he hasn’t contributed a thing to the house since he came to stay 2 weeks ago and there is no further progress on him moving out :(

Thinking of all with worries & cares, especially our Holly and on her birthday as well.

Take care folks x

Morning :)

Got a message from Holly yesterday and as suspected she is staying with her brother after he attended the bad news appointment on Friday. Thats really reassuring as i was really worried she was on her own coping with the news. So now its the familiar wait for a bed at the other hospital which could happen any day.

truits Hollys birthday on Tuesday so hope she gets to stay at home till then. Knowing her though the more cake the better :D

Slept better last night with the above knowledge although my brain managed to find another couple of issues at 4am

So yesterday was a wash out which means I have a fair bit to do today. Wash in now and as soon as the world wakes up I need to go and get petrol for the week. Still need to prep tomorrows workbook although a quick check would suggest it wont be too taxing. Its down in the Midlands so I will have to leave at very silly o'clock to miss the traffic so want to get everything ready today including some packed lunch to be snaffled by 7 :)

Last night I had gammon baby potatoes and beans ...very comforting. Did a big pan of pots so may make a potato salad today

Will like most people be paying my respects at 11am. My great Grandad (mums Grandad) was lost and is buried in France. I know so little about his life as it was kept under wraps but just knowing he was there and what he must have gone through is very poignant today.

Have a good day all
• :hello: - Good Morning, everybody :D. Very dull and dreary out there this morning with more of the same to follow until this afternoon, when Mr Weatherman reckons it'll brighten up.

dumpling - thanks for starting the thread this morning :). So sorry to hear about Lee's 'wobble' and do hope that you can find a way for him to continue at college. This is something along the lines of what Nathan went through last year - and why he finally decided on going to The Farm.
ScarlettRibbons - sorry your trip out has been cancelled but, like many Oldstylers, it seems that you can always find something else to do ;).
tru - lol at Scamp - I guess that, unless you actually KNOW, what they are, Hedgehogs' faces can appear to be quite scary :D. wd on your makeshift storage :j.
LaineyT - oh dear - maybe time for your DH to 'have the chat' with your DSS :undecided.
silver_oldie - whatever you decided to do, hope you have a peaceful day :).
Holly - if you're reading this, I'm so sorry to hear about the bad news that you've been given, but it's great that you've got such good support from having your brother around for you - ((((Hugs)))) for you. Will be thinking about you - especially on your birthday :).
Nelski - thanks for the update on Holly - good to know that she's with her brother for the time being. Hope your work prep goes well and that you have a good week in work.

Much L:heart2:VE and ((((Hugs)))) to all who need them.

There's now been another swap over in the spare room - DGD1 has gone and DGD2 has landed back again. She's still 'out for the count' at the moment, but I'll be waking her up shortly.

I started some sewing yesterday evening, but have struggled due to not being able to feel the pins when I try to pick them up ................. well that's not exactly true - I certainly 'feel them' when I get them stuck in my fingers . It's taking much longer than normal, so I'm afraid that DiL won't be getting this in time to wear tomorrow for an interview :(.

Will be going off to church in a couple of hours and may take some chicken out of the freezer for tonight's meal .

Have a good day, everybody and take care - luv Ollie xxx

Morning everyone
Having a lazy start with my breakfast in bed.
Quite a busy day yesterday in a pottering-about sort of way and spent a couple of hours at my mam and dads. Dad seems to be deteriorating at the minute...he's struggling to use his laptop and getting quite frustrated about it. He kept getting his words all mixed up too.
I've started sorting all the stuff youngest DD has left in her bedroom...she still has some boxes to take down to her new house but a lot of stuff left is just 'bits' so I'm packing it up to go in the big cupboard in her bedroom. Plus there's clothes that won't fit her for a while. She's 22 weeks now...she sent me a video the other night of her tummy moving.

Does anything know anything about laptops? Mine keeps scrolling down to the bottom of its own accord...it's very annoying!

Hope everyone has a good day. I'll be going down to sit with my dad later...we'll watch some of the service from the Cenotaph.

dumpling, I hope Lee gets the help he needs.

Hugs to all the poorlies, especially Holly, and to all the carers as well.

I've decided to batch cook some meals today so that we have things to just heat up. Yesterday, because we didn't have anything we bought some ready made curry in Tesco. However, it was very nice and on offer so 2 mains and 2 sides cost £5. One main and the sides was plenty for us so we have the other in the freezer now. I'm going to make cottage pies, chicken enchiladas and bean stew today.

I also want to get on with sewing the borders on my quilt top, it has 7 narrow ones, mitred at the corners so it's a bit of a fiddle.
