:oThis is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning :)

Up daft early for work today. heading to the Midlands so I have the joys of the M6 on a Monday morning which is never pleasant. Course is a sales programme today which is one of my favs so as long as the group is OK all should be well.

Yesterday got most of the bits I wanted to do apart from the clothes declutter so that will have to wait till the weekend again now. Dinner ended up as just the rest of the potatoes with loads of butter and the rest of the tin of beans...:o not very healthy but just what I fancied and a good use up

RR I am a Rivvy pike girl too....we spent many a Sunday up there when I was a kid. Do they still have the cafe at the top?
Jackiemum take care and get some rest x
Mrs Gers Hope you are feeling better today

    Morning All

Another Monday! I had a great weekend, went to DS1s new home yesterday in deepest, darkest Perthshire, a beautiful house in the middle of nowhere. He had to take DGD to a party so DGS was left with me - we had a great time exploring the forest! I took them a TV that was on my kitchen wall, didn't ever watch it and they are all happy!

The weather hasn't been great over the weekend, we're missing the sun. Washing up to date (until I come home with wet towels later), must put away the folded washing from Saturday.

Hope you're feeling better and rested Gers.
    Hugs to those in need.

    Take care. XX

Thanks Nels! I don't know why I thought Holly's birthday was yesterday. But that's OK, there's plenty of room for more cake tomorrow :D I'm glad she's staying with her brother.

    Hello Purple kitten

    Hope you're OK Gers xx

I have a bit of work to do today, it should only take about half an hour. Then it's on to the washing, hoovering and tidying. Scamp's toybox is almost empty which means he's hidden his things around the house, I'll try and retrieve them all today :D If it's not raining later, I'll go out and chop up some of those branches. If it is, I'll just sit on the sofa :D

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark but dry underfoot and not cold for the time of year. Forecasters say today is going to be ok, so I'll peg a line of washing out and hope we can get it dry.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he'll be going for a run.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, swede (me only), yorkshires and gravy. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

We got a few jobs done at home over the weekend, so that's a good step forward, still more to do, but pleased we got the house guttering cleared and unblocked at the beginning of the week and I bought some special gutter guards to stop them getting full of leaves/moss, DH got them in situ yesterday - hopefully it will stop the gutters overflowing when it rains.

Back to work this morning, we'll see what today brings, we've been quite busy this last couple of weeks, so we'll see. Funeral date has been set for my relative and it's on a day I don't work, so I don't have the hassle of trying to get a day off.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all

We lit the fire last night as were soon very warm indeed in fact we were sitting here sweating :o it seems very very mild for this time of year which is great but a bit confusing.

There was a post on my villages FB page asking for someone to go to the church and take a photo of the memorial plaque for WW1, this lady who lived far away was going her granddads history and apparently his name is on the plaque, OH and I walked round there a couple of times yesterday but it was being kept locked due to stealing from local churches, I have left a note so am hoping to be able to get the lady a photo.

Did a roast yesterday which DD and boyf somehow invited themselves to :rotfl:but it was nice to see them and I think there is possibly enough left for one for tonight too so that's easy.

I hope specky is settled into the hotel by now how exciting for him :j

JackieO hope you are felling more comfortable this morning xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning folks.

Grey and wet here. Time for coats.

I'm feeling better, thanks. Still coughing though it's not a chesty one, just a throaty one. I'm drinking loads of water to help stop that. I'm going in to teach this morning though a bit worried about lasting two hours.

Once I get home I've got a ton of marking to catch up with, I did nothing last week. I'll also book a telephone appointment with DM's GP.

Yesterday I cooked some sausages so will have a couple with fried potatoes.

Camelot - what a lovely picture you have painted. It's so good to hear about your DS and his new life.

Redruby - is it odd that the church was locked on Remberance Sunday?

I hope that everyone has a Happy Monday.

    Morning everyone,

Glad to read that you are feeling a tad better Gers, hope you feel better soon JackieO
It’s a bit wet and miserable here at the moment but is meant to clear up soon, think I’m going to head into BuryStEd this morning armed with a list of possible presents, time to get organised!
Other than that and seeing the lovely Lu everything else will be pretty fluid.
Thoughts are with all poorlies and those struggling, take care folks x
  • Morning chums ,blooming Lymphedema is a blasted nuisance, but I have started taking my antibiotics and they are quite strong and do kick in fairly quickly This morning at least my arm has paled to a rosy red instead of the scarlet shade it was last night :) Its really like getting a nasty dose of 'flu rather quickly, and it flares up within an hour.Sitting with DD last night after a smashing dinner of roast beef and all the trimmings I was fine and yet within about an hour I was shivery ,cold and my arm was three times its size Blooming painful as well so I came home took a pill and went to bed straight away and feel a bit more human this morning, I have to be a little careful what I do for a couple of days but I should be a lot better as soon as the capsules kick in They are pretty strong and work very well. Just had eldest DD on the phone reading the riot act and telling me I'm not the spring chicken I used to be and to slow down a bit :):):) Goodness she is turning into my Mum :) but I know she means well bless her.

So at a slightly slower pace than I normally have on a Monday morning I shall make my morning pot of coffee which should help and take my time eating my breakfast instead of rushing out:) But I do have to be at Book club by 10 as its our 5 year anniversary today and we are having a small 'do' this morning Then I have to go to the big shopping centre to pick up my son-in-laws birthday present and then home for a leisurely lunch before toddling round to DDs to await the boys coming in from school ,but I will do things a bit more slowly today ,(keeps the DDs happy :))

Looks a bit damp and dreary outside at the moment but its not cold at least ,which is a bonus.

Hope everyone has a good week whatever they are doing ,keep warm and dry.

Send Holly my good wishes for tomorrow for her birthday although she may not feel much like celebrating at the moment, I have been thinking of her

    Take care chums

    JackieO xxx
  • Good morning everyone, and all the best Speky for your new start this morning. It's always a hectic but exciting time settling into a new job, new geographical area and beginning to get to know new colleagues.

I had a lovely weekend, the visit to the Scottish Crannog Centre was very enjoyable, and yesterday I took a cracking photo of Wallace Monument and surrounding landscape during the Sunday stroll, lovely autumn colours and the River Forth in the foreground. I sent it to my brother in Oz for old times' sake.

Today I'm going to ignore the housework and get on with a photobook for my younger daughter. The photos are all scanned in, just need to load them in the right order and choose sizing, backgrounds and special effects.

I'm sending best wishes to everyone who has health challenges or other challenges.

Wishing everyone the best day possible. xxx
  • everybody - lovely start to the day here in Merseyside. Clear views all the way to Liverpool and there's even my little 'glimpse' of the Moel Arthur :j.

Nelski - thanks for starting the thread for the day. I remember visiting Rivington Pike as a child - I grew up in St.Helens - which was in Lancashire (until the 'invention' of Merseyside). In fact, St.Helens hasn't moved ..................... so technically, it is STILL in Lancashire ;). Hope your trip on the M6 is smooth and good luck with the trainees today.
camelot1001 - yours sounds like an idyllic weekend - had many happy travels around Perthshire :).
tru - good luck with your 'toy hunt' - bet Scamp's found some geat hidey-holes for his toys ;).
nmlc - well done on a productive weekend - the gutter guards sound like a great idea :j.
redruby - what a shame that your local church has to be kept locked due to stealing :(. Hope you manage to get a photo for the lady in question. Have you tried the church's own website - there might just be a photo of the war memorial in question, though there may not be enough detail to be able to read the gentleman's actual name on it.
Organza_Lace - enjoy your day with 'Diva' - you're right, they DO change very quickly at that age :T.
Gers - that's good to hear that you're feeling much better. Best of luck with work today and especially with DM's GP.
LaineyT - enjoy your shopping trip - hope you manage to find the things that you're looking for :).
JackieO - sorry to read about your Lymphoedema - that's rotten to have when you have such a busy day ahead. Enjoy your Book Club and your shopping trip :D.
WeeMidgie - what a lovely weekend you've just had :j! We've missed our 'annual trip' to Glen Nevis this year .................. made do with our weekend trip to Stirling back in August, though I've missed seeing MY Glen with it's autumn colours ;).

((((Gentle Hugs)))) and prayers for all those who aren't well, caring for others or need one 'just because.......'.

Had a lovely day with DGD2 (Caitlin age 11) yesterday. Church in the morning, Lunch at Costa and then a bit of shopping in Mr T's. Followed by a meal of Spicy Chicken Thigh Portions, Spicy Sweet Potato Fries, Onion Rings and Salad - which produced clean plates all around :j.

Plans for today include my Charity Shop shift this afternoon :D and a visit to church early evening to do some more 'form filling'.

Think we'll have some Shank Stew for evening meal later .

Enjoy the rest of the day, everybody. I'll check back in again later in the day. Luv Ollie xxx
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Glad you are feeling a bit better Gers........Jackie I hope the medication does its job and your arm goes down a shade or two more.

Saturday the knives were out, UTI.......I decided to use an old remedy and drink a glass of water with bicarb....it worked, the knives have been put away, I will phone for an appointment this morning. I cannot have the flu jab, so really do not want to sit in a waiting room full of germs. I had flu last Christmas, closely followed with OH having a severe vertigo attack, do not want it again thank you,it took ages for me to feel anything like well.

Its a bright morning, have a coloured load in the washer, it should dry outside.

Sweep is coming at lunchtime, and I need to make bread, DD2 is coming over tomorrow, so extra bread needed for sandwiches.
