Levantine Cuisine....some help please
I have a love of eastern mediteranean food and wanted to learn more about Levantine Cuisine. I tried this absolutely delicious chicken, onion and sumac casserole - 4th recipe in this link https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/oct/24/20-best-middle-eastern-recipes-part-2-claudia-roden-moro-mackerel-kebab-ful-medames…

Freezing dough?
Does anyone have experience of freezing bread dough? I know it is supposed to be possible, but haven't tried. Do I need to increase the yeast quantity? I'm contemplating freezing rolls after they have proved so I can bake them fresh. The recipe I'd like to use includes grated raw onion and cheese.

Grandma’s Larder
My Nan has a big larder (bigger than my wardrobe), most houses these days don’t have enough space for this kind of kitchen space and i don’t know anyone except on MSE who has a decent store cupboard. There are lots of posts about store cupboard ingredients that people keep in the house but i’m Wondering, what store…

Any Coffee Experts Out there?
Hi, We have a Delonghi Caffe Corso which is around 3 years old and still going well (I think). Recently, I’ve been finding my coffee either has no taste or tastes bitter. I normally use Starbucks Espresso Blend Whole Beans. The machine is descaled when needed (a light comes on) but that was only 2 weeks ago and it’s…

HM vegetarian sausages
Does anyone have a good recipe for these? I have tried a few off the internet and have not been a success, usually unable to bind properly. I don't mean the ones full of vegetable bits, not to my taste. Prefer something tofu or soya or mushroom based with onion/garlic and well seasoned. I've recently come across Tofurky…

oil/grease stain on carpet?
Hi, My DH must have got a little spot of oil or similar on his slippers as there are small black marks all up our new stairs/landing/more stairs & bedroom carpet, which is beige. There was a small spot on the wooden floor in the kitchen and I had to scrub it with some neat pledge wooden floor cleaner to lift it. The carpet…

Products that aren't what they used to be
A few months ago now I needed to buy soap (having worked through a massive stash for at least the last 2 years). I picked up one bar each of Pears soap and Imperial Leather. Both of which I remembered from years ago as long lasting and having a nice fresh scent but not overpowering. What a disappointment they turned out to…

Car boot help!
I'm staying at my paren't for the week, their house is storing a lot of my DD baby/toddler stuff. She's 10 now and as I'm in the process of buying a house it's time I get rid of some of the bits I've held onto. If I have another one now I can buy new bits, though I'm not holding my breath on that. I've decided to car boot…

Weekly Flylady Thread 16th July 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Convenience vs old style
Hi everyone, Sometimes certain cheats can be worth spending money on to save time :) For example: 1) I have discovered frozen diced onions - I HATE chopping onions, and it used to make cooking such a drag. Just made HM chicken korma from scratch and without having to chop those pesky onions, I actually enjoyed making it…

doing up a house on a budget
Hi all! I hope people don't mind me posting this on here? I'm in the process of buying my first home. It'll be shared ownership as that's all I can afford on my income in my area and I'm buying on my own. The budget I have is quite modest so any house I buy looks like it is going to need some form of work doing judging by…

Discipline
I am trying to not spend money. The only thing which works is to leave my cards and cash at home. However I am petrified that if I do this when I go to London, I will get stuck and have no money to pay if something comes up. Does anyone have any suggestions?
