Old Style Daily Monday 16th July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

It is so warm that I was tossing turning and eventually gave up and got up for a while. I have managed three hours sleep, and I am having a cup of tea and look around the internet while I drink it. I’ll try going back to bed shortly and see if I can get a bit more sleep.

By the afternoon yesterday I had a headache and felt really drained and exhausted from the heat. I have just had a look at the forecast for today and it supposed to get as hot but be quite cloudy at times. I think I will make the most of the last week before the schools break up for summer and go to the coast. Sometime this week I will take my neighbour for a day out.

Before I go anywhere today I need to collect my prescription from the pharmacy and get a few bits and pieces from the supermarket while I am in the area.

I’ve been looking at the programme of events on in the area for the next couple of months and I was pleased to see that there are a few things that I would like to go to.

Nannywindow I don’t know what you can do about your dad, I guess he won’t change now. I hope that Mr Fixit feels a bit better today and that you enjoyed your well wine. You certainly deserved it after a day like yesterday.

Judi I hope that you managed to get some sleep and that Grump didn’t keep you awake all night again.

Hester could you have the salmon one day this week?

Thinking of everyone who is having a difficult time or poorly right now, either themselves or their family, so many are dealing with problems or difficult situations right now xx

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. I do hope you managed to get back to sleep. These hot nights are a right pain. I had another tossing and turning, up and down night too. Mr TA restless and in and out of bed as well which didn't help. They say it's going to start cooling down this week so we shall see if they are right.

We have the Gastro/Endoscopy appointment at 9.00 this morning to try and get to the bottom of Mr TA's inability to eat/digest. It goes without saying I am worrying about what they will find. But bad or worse we need to know as things can't go on like this.

It's at the more local hospital so at least we don't have the arduous journey to Leeds through rush hour traffic. They say allow up to 4 hours for all the tests etc so DS is taking us on, dropping us off and then coming back for us when Mr TA is ready to go home again. It'll seem endless waiting for results etc. I shall take my book but doubt I'll take in what I am reading!

NAN I hope you enjoyed your wine after your stressful day. And I hope Mr Fixit has picked up a bit today too. Our menfolk are a big worry to quite a few of us just now.

We had a visit from Mr TA's youngest sister yesterday (fortunately not the me-me one) all lovey dovey and wanting to know how things were with her brother, I didn't know where to start explaining all his problems as you can imagine.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all the poorlies, sad or worried. Take care all xx

Good morning everyone and thanks for the start H/Harvey hope you managed to get a nap.It certainly was a scorcher last night but I had an earliesh night at 10, and actually went off to sleep around 11 and slept through until 5.30 which was really good enough for me.

Lovely roast lamb dinner last night at DDs and then we sat and watched the Pink Floyd concert on Sky Arts from 1994, it really was amazing.

This morning I have to put my car through the wash as its really mucky and our local car wash does an excellent job ,inside and out for £8.00 on a Monday for pensioners :)

I have a seven seater car and being under 5'4" I can't even reach the roof :) and its cash well spent to me once I collect 4 washes on my card I get a freebie.I get it done about every 6-7 weeks and its a luxury I never ind paying.Plus the car wash place do their best to recycle as much of their water as they can.

Then I just have to read my gas & electric meters and send the numbers off, and top up my petrol and that all the chores I am doing today as its far too hot to do much more.

I am staying at DDs tonight as they are off to Norwich for DGS graduation tomorrow, and they have a really nice air con unit in the sitting room :):)
She booked their hotel in January which was lucky as when they booked it was £78, because of graduation and extra visitors the price has shot up to £120 !!!.They have already booked the taxi to the venue for tomorrow morning as parking is not only expensive, but are as hens teeth in Norwich.

The boys and I will have a lasagne out of my freezer for tonights dinner.

AOD no I haven't read it, but I think I will be looking at reading more of her books.

Right its already very warm so time for a large cup of tea and then a shower I think.

Hope everyone has a good day and manages to keep cool and hydrated

    Cheers chums

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I have had an absolutely rubbish night because of a combination of worrying and hot weather and I think I managed to get less than 2 hours sleep in total. Steve didn't do much better either and the poor bloke has just left the house for his first day back in work. I'm going to be kind to myself today and try and grab a nana nap later on.

Lee is not very well so it will be a day of phoning around and trying to bump up his support. We are supposed to be starting out GCSE courses workbooks today but I will play it by ear. I'm quite keen and quite competitive too so it will be interesting if Lee is up for it. There is also an LGBT youth group on today that he has expressed an interest in going to but again I shall see what he is capable of first.

While I couldn't sleep I planned our dinner tonight and it's a made up bacon and bean pie. Sainsburys has given me 2 packs of cooking bacon as a substitute so I am trying to think of ways to use them. There are no thin pieces for a conventional bacon sarnie just thick chunks. I make a spinach and bacon spaghetti sauce which normally uses up a pack of lardons so that would be a good way to use some up for another day.

I will need to ask the girls to have a bit of a tidy and hoover downstairs today as I am anticipating quite a few visitors if Lee doesn't improve this week. I have a mountain of washing to sort out for the machine and Lee will hopefully help me carry it downstairs and put it on. Apart from that, the place doesn't look too bad.

It's my grand daughter's sports day today so Lilly and Phoebe are going to go and cheer her on as her mum is working and can't get there. It's the same school as the girls used to go to so it will be a bit of a trip down memory lane for them. It doesn't seem 5 minutes since I was there watching the girls do their races.

Right, I'm off to make another cup of tea. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

I have slept! I woke at 3.30 but managed to go back to sleep until 5.45 and I feel refreshed, a good feeling.

It is warm and sunny here but cloud cover is building up so it may get muggy later. I will be off to meet a friend later. I've made her child's gift for her teacher and need to hand it over. It was a bit of a rush job but ok I think. Then home and I'm afraid that I am not doing very much at present, still just pottering while it is so hot.

My orchid is in flower for the third year running, I'm pleased about this.

TA I will be thinking of you and sending good vibes today.

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly. Load in WM - love being able to get every load line dried.

Dinner yesterday was smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in a creme fraiche sauce, fresh strawberries and cream for dessert. Today we'll be having pork chops, new potatoes, veg and gravy.

Yesterday was a chilled day, DS2 did his experience day - he had a flying lesson - absolutely loved it and it was a lovely place. I'm still on annual leave this week, but have shed loads of jobs I want to get done, so will see how I get on, not going to push too hard in this heat though. Will do what needs doing. I have a dentist appointment first thing today, so I'll be pleased to get that out of the way.

    Keep safe and well x

My nan died late last night, my cousin announced it on social media as soon as she was told – trouble is she was pretty much first to be told, so a lot of us have found out from facebook. Nan has been poorly for a while and we were just waiting for the inevitable, we also said we wouldn't ring each other in the middle of the night when it happened, we'd wait til morning. I can't let my dad know that I already know, he'll want to know how and if I tell him he'll be really upset and there will probably be a huge family row. I want to ring him now but I can't really do that, can I? I'll have to wait for him to call (it'll be early, he won't wait). What would you do? I'm bloody furious.

    Hi all :)

    Happy Monday

Quite cloudy here today but still warm. Rain forecast for later. Probably a good thing as its a work day so I wont be hankering after tan time. Lovely quiet day in the garden yesterday so more book time and chill. Had another meal with the mixed grill and put a portion in the freezer. It really is the best tenner spent :D

Thinking of doing a chicken fajitas tonight to use us some fridge peppers but will depend on how hot it stays.

nanny heres a thought ..instead of joining the circus why not send Dad to join ....Ill send mum and they can pair up and have a world renowned moaning act.

Right best crack on enjoy your day everyone
  • So sorry to read your post TRU. Facebook certainly isn't the place to announce a death. Especially before all the family have been told. Yet one more reason to add to my list of why I dislike Facebook so much. I can understand why you are so annoyed x
