Old Style Daily Tuesday 17th July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

It was really nice at the coast yesterday, I was grateful to be somewhere with a sea breeze. My house was so hot when I got in that I didn’t want to go to bed because it would mean closing the windows and doors.

Today will be a repeat of yesterday, but I will be taking my neighbour with me so I will let her choose where we go. This will be the last time that I take her to the coast until the schools go back in September, as her balance is not so good and she worries if it is too crowded that she will fall easily.

The housework and cooking can wait until next week or if we get rain. I want to make the most the weather.

Gers I’m sorry that life is difficult for you at the moment, hopefully as your mum recovers things will get a bit easier for you.

AOD it was good to read that you had managed to get a good nights’ sleep.

Camelot it sounds like the building work is coming along ok. It is good that you managed to find a suitable car without too much trouble.

ILC congratulations on the hamper win, it sounds like there are some nice goodies in there.

Don’t apologise for having a meltdown nanny, here is the place to do it.

TA I’m so sorry that Mr TA’s test yesterday didn’t give you any answers as to why he can’t digest food. I do hope that the GP has some suggestions on what to do next when you see them on Monday.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.
  • Morning folks and thanks for the very early kick off HOLLY. Hope you managed a bit more sleep. It was a little cooler here last night so I slept better, and Mr TA wasn't as restless either, until I woke up at worry o'clock and that was it!

I was on the phone last night with DB and then SIL for about an hour, asking how yesterday went. DB is going to call up at some point today but I don't think there will be much left to talk about!

I have numerous phone calls to make today and it's a job I hate so I will be glad when they are done and dusted.

Nothing else planned but quite a few pottering jobs to do if I CBA! And yet another day of trying to get more nutrition/calories into Mr TA. I fear it is going to be another uphill battle.

As usual lots of worries on here. GERS I hope your DM continues to improve, albeit slowly. TRU did yesterday's debacle over the FB post have repercussions? DUMPLING just hugs. REDRUBY your DD has fallen lucky with her new house and all the extras. Well done her! Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad or worried. Take care xx

    Morning hello.gif

    Thank you everyone xx

Sorry I wasn't clear – dad, aunt and uncle were with her, but not all us grandchildren and grandchildren knew the second she died. One cousin did and took it upon herself to post about how sad she was that her nan had died and quite a few of us found out that way. I didn't want my dad to get upset that we'd found out like that.
And thanks for your comments on what to do. I was still debating (I agreed with waiting and also with ringing him!) when dad rang, he told me my brother found out from cousin's post so I told him I had too. He's angry about it but is keeping quiet for now. Dad is fine, aunt and uncle are too but I think it's relief at the moment (relief isn't quite right, but you know what I mean). So I've told them that apart from an hour early in the mornings, I'll be in all day for the next few days so just ring if they need me to do anything. Dad said nan had arranged everything (a rough order of service too, depending on who wants to do readings, etc!) so we already know where the funeral and wake is to be, she'd put money by and all anyone needs to do is ring and book times. Can't believe she did all that.

I'm going out for a walk in about half an hour, I'll have a shower when I get back then the shopping will be here. I haven't got much planned for today, I can't even vacuum because the Dyson's motor is making a horrendous noise and there's a burning smell. I tried to take the motor apart but it's a sealed unit so that's the end of that. I'm secretly pleased, I've been wanting to replace it with a cordless vac but didn't feel I could justify it – now I can :D

I'll go back and read your posts properly in a mo, I must admit I only skimmed through them looking for answers to my phone call dilemma :o

    Hi all :)

Blue sky again this morning but yesterday it literally threw it down for hours which has really cleared the air. Sadly it was too little too late for a hosepipe ban which will start here early August. Im not bothered as I have only been watering my baskets which can easily be done with a watering can or two but I do hope people stick with it. Some gardeners do seem to think that somehow they are exceptions but at £1000 a fine hopefully they will rethink.

Work day again here but I also want to squeeze in a few house jobs.

Caesar salad for dinner last night so probably be feta tonight. Nothing much else going on in my world atm which I think is a good thing :)

Tru sounds like your nan has made the arrangements nice and easy for you all...dad had done the same for us and it was so welcome when everyone was grieving not to have to go through all the minutia.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Tru - sorry to hear your sad news, hope it doesn't turn into a family fall-out as unfortunately this sort of thing sometimes does (IYKWIM) x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Feels cooler here this morning, I have stripped our bed and first load is in the WM, hoping to get all the bed linen washed, line dried and put back on the bed.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he wants to go to the gym this morning.

Dinner last night was roast pork chops, minted new potatoes, carrots, broc, green beans, cauli in cheese sauce and gravy, ice creams for dessert. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

I wasn't overly productive yesterday but did get all the washing and drying up to date, but there's more this morning, so dealing with that. Also, I have been let down by one of the tradesmen that was doing some work in my kitchen at the end of this week so spent some time last night frantically trying to find someone else, this will be an ongoing priority this morning, I have the number of someone else - so hoping that may be positive. I'll keep trying until I exhaust all possibilities. If it comes to worse case scenario we'll have to put back the other work also but I don't really want to do that unless there's no other solution.

I do need to buy some plumbing bits that DS1 has asked me to buy as he's doing some of the plumbing work for the kitchen works also, so will try and sort that today.

I'll keep pottering along doing bits I also want to try to sort out the porch today, it's a pit and has become a dumping ground. So quite a few chores on my "to do" list.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

I could have slept in this morning, typical I have to be up for the builders, etc. I also have to go to DDs to wait for the valuer whilst they are at work, hopefully this will move things along and they can move soon.

Your DD has fallen lucky RR, whenever I've moved there's only been carp left!
Hope you see an improvement in your DM today Gers.
Sorry you didn't get any answers yesterday TA.
    Enjoy your seaside day Holly.
Hugs to you dumpling and tru.

The builders uncovered a massive crack in the brickwork over the back door yesterday which was a bit worrying to say the least. Anyway a lintel has been put in (there wasn't one) and it all looks a lot safer. Makes me wonder why it wasn't done when the conservatory was put up, probably out of sight out of mind!

I had a good bagful of veggies when I went to the allotment yesterday, courgettes, peas, beans, toms and cucumbers - amazing. I'll take some of it to DDs today.

Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning all

Nice day here again :jOff to work again ( I forever seem to be saying that !) my boss approached me yesterday asking if I can work a weekend coming up  it kind of put me on the spot a bit and I told her I would let her know, this is only two weeks after our last conversation about me not doing weekends, I am going to have to speak to her again today, I really don't mind doing the odd one but I have the feeling that if I say yes to this lots more will follow !!

Not sure about dinner tonight I might do some wraps with southern fried chicken and salad and new pots, I really don't want anything too heavy atm.

Gers Im thinking of you and your mum and hoping she feels better soon xx

TA and Camelot thank you, DD has been very lucky xx

Right best get on have good days all xx

Good morning chums and still got too much heat here in Kent The fields the other side of Sittingbourne were burning yesterday, I feel very sorry for our farmers when they lose their crops like this, they are having a hard enough time as it is.

Looks as though the hosepipe ban will be with us soon, I do my best not to waste water as its not only in short supply, its getting expensive as well.

What things do you do to save our precious water supply I use the waste water from my washing up bowl on the grass and shrubs, and only wash up when the bowl is full about once a day

On the news it was telling us to put aside the chores for a bit while the water is short !! I'm all for that its far too hot to wash windows :):)I only put my washing machine on as a rule when there is a full load to do, and as I have a walk-in shower room I collect the cold water in a bucket for the garden that comes down from the tank before the hot water does and try to limit the shower to a three minute maximum one.

    Anythoughts chums ???

Right high time I did the boys their breakfast

Take care and keep cool if possible

My late OH worked on contract in the Sudan in the 1980s and turned us all into water savers when he came home on leave as water was almost as precious as gold out there

    Morning All,

Yesterday in the area where I live we had 5 minutes of rain. It does feel a bit cooler this morning though.

Anyway today I have to start sorting out arranging to put moms house up for sale - I need to contact a solicitor to check they will still act on moms behalf, as it is a few months since I contacted them.

    Have a good day x
