Anyone use a Bread Improver?
I currently use a small amount of Wessex Mill Bread Improver in my Panasonic bread machine - we really like how the bread turns out with this and the bread stays soft much longer than without - but I've run out of my current bag. I can order it from the Wessex Mill website, but it's over £5 for delivery on a £1.75 item. No…

Help me not put my heating on yet!!
It was so cold last night!! The wind didn't help either. I resisted but I had 2 duvets on my bed and a blanket and still felt a bit chilly. I don't want to start using the heating until October. So..what can I do? It's a rented house and the attic doesn't have any insulation so you really feel the cold especially at night…

I'm trying something I saw on here
I read in one of the threads about cooking something and using less gas/electricity by bringing it up to a boil and then putting a lid on it and switching the heat off and letting it cook in its own heat....I'm making soup and it'll be interesting to see if it works.

OS ways and Poor Health
Earlier today I joined a very good new thread on getting back to old style ways . I managed to take it in another direction by mentioning how ill health can impact on doing everything the old style way . As this was off topic to the original post . I will be posting on the original topic but without going off in another…

Hay fever or something else?
Actually as I was writing this I think its something else. 4 years ago I had my earwax cleaned (hadn't done it in years) then it started off constant ear irritation though I assume more my fault as whenever it was itchy I scraped the inside of my ear with pinkie That property was a town centre flat so nowhere near…

What can you do with Soya beans?
I bought a load of soya beans in a healthy eating frenzy. But it was just a fad, didn't last and so far, I haven't enjoyed eating them. I love other beans, chickpeas and lentils but the soya have an odd texture somehow. Anyone got any good recipes? I know how to make soya milk so anything other than that?

Soupmaker recipes
I recently bought a Soupmaker for quick and easy weekend lunches but the recipe book which came with it only has a couple of recipes which appeal. As the technique is a little different to making soup in a pan I wondered if anyone had any tried and tested recipes to share. I know that some people think soupmakers are a…

Does anyone use powdered milk?
I'm considering switching to powdered milk, as I seem to get through a lot of normal milk (partly because I keep drinking it!) and it's costing me money and not helping my diet at all. I really only need milk for use in porridge and I sometimes use it in mash potato. Would powdered milk work for those things? If you use…

Cherry Tomatoes with tough skins
I bought a cherry tomato hanging basket from Aldi, it has produced lots of fruit but the skins seem to be really tough. I have roasted them and just taken the pulp out when having them with other roast veg, but I would welcome any other suggestions as to what to do with them, and if I have done anything to prevent this!!

Spares for appliances
I don’t work for this company, nor am I associated with them so I hope this won’t be reported as spam. I just want to flag them up and recommend them to other MSE-ers as they’ve saved me a lot of money and hassle and think other people might find likewise. The hose on my ancient Dyson vacuum cleaner split at the beginning…
