This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone.
An early one from me today. I'm off to Stirling this morning so up before the birds. This afternoon I'm going to stay with my mum until Tuesday morning so it's all 'get up and go'.
Yesterday was mostly lovely so I filled my washing line with a white load, it was so nice seeing it blowing in the high winds.
My thoughts are with you all.
Happy Sunday.0 -
Morning folks. Thanks for the thread Gers. It's a lovely start here and the forecast for the week is a good one, with summer coming back again!
We have decided to go over to the caravan this morning, staying till Thursday lunchtime. We are not needed for childminding until Thursday night's sleepover and school run Friday morning, so we thought we'd make the best of the return of summer! Another Nidd walk is on the agenda in the hope of spotting the elusive otters!
Monday we plan on getting the bus into Harrogate as I am still in need of some black shoes or sandals for the forthcoming wedding. Big choice of shops there, albeit a lot of expensive ones which I will avoid! I also want to look for a little shrug to wear with my dress in case it's too warm for the bargaineous Precis jacket I got - can't do with exposing my bingo wings amongst illustrious company!
Mr TA's consultant has our mobile numbers if he is trying to contact us re the blood tests. It's daft sitting at home waiting for a phone call. It's so peaceful and quiet and we both sleep better there too, it can only do us good and shove our worries to the back of our minds.
Need to pack some clothes and an assortment of food shortly. There is still some of last night's curry left so that will be lunch when we get there.
Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Those with problems will be in my thoughts as always. Take care all xx (Speedy convalescence TT)"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone,
Bright and sunny here, it rained most of yesterday, I did get the girls out for a quick walk at one point that was about it. I felt lousy all day so didn't go in to see Mum, sneezes etc have thankfully now stopped so will see how I feel later for afternoon visit. Apparently they have moved her on to the next ward and in one of the main bays, not a separate room, so visiting times aren't as relaxed
DOH had a good trip up and down to Newcastle, DSS2 is all settled in his room and loved his bag of groceries. His Mum is going up today with the rest of the stuff, it will feel strange to her now both the boys have gone.
This morning will be doing a bit of batch cooking and catching up on the Archers as haven't listened all week, this evening there is an hour long episode for the verdict!
Great idea to go away TA like you say have mobile phones for any results that come through and you both can certainly do with peace & quiet x
Have a good Sunday everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light with blue sky and sunshine, a complete turnaround from yesterday - we had pretty much continous rain that started at some time during the night, it did ease off now and then but everywhere has a lot of laying water. Forecast is much better for the coming days, so I have a load of washing ready to go out on the line shortly.
DH and myself are now enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day, both boys still in their pits. DS1 went out last night and came in a 1am, so don't expect to see him very early, DS2 will surface at some point during the morning.
Lunch today is roast pork, looks a lovely joint, I buy most of my fresh meat from Morries, mostly the Butchery counter, so it does cause a bit of running around on shopping day, but if I don't like the quality of the meat in A**is, then however cheap it is it's a waste, unfortunately I have had several different fresh meat/poultry items that have been off from there, and some that was tough chewy and basically inedible, a shame because it would be so much easier to just go to 1 shop. The other shops I use luckily are en route home, so no diversions off my main route. The roast pork will be served with the usual roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, asparagus, HG green beans, yorkshires and gravy. Dinner last night was going to be lasagne, but then we decided we were all still too full to eat another big meal, so menfolk had a chicken/mushroom slice with egg fried rice and a cheese and bacon pasta bake, not very big portions of anything, but it was just enough, so all eaten and enjoyed, I had just the pasta and rice.
We visited the outlaws and my parents yesterday morning, then just went home and chilled. Although I did make a reservation for a hotel for DH and myself to go away for 4 days in November, I already have the week booked off as holiday, as I like to get my xmas cake and puds made and the xmas shopping done and wrapped before the shops get too mad. I've been wanting to go to this particular city for xmas shopping for years, so hopefully I'll get there this year. I managed to get a pretty decent deal for the hotel and it's very close to where we want to be for shopping.
Today will be another chill day - I'll just prep and cook the lunch, once all prep is done and meal is cooking, I'll organise the pack ups for tomorrow, so that will be done too, then a chilled afternoon.
Keep safe and well x

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))if you need one.
Bright morning after yesterday's rain, it rained for most of the day, we badly needed it.
Village show today, I need to get up and put my entries in, the churn dash quilt from our bed and the knitted feather stitch blanket I made earlier this year. OH is not putting any thing in this time.
OH wants to go into Melton, so we will carry on from there, I need a new mop head for the wet room floor and also a new head for the sponge thingie that I use to wash up.
No plans for the rest of the day except to prep and cook the supper.
Will have to have a walk up the garden at some point. I thought the runner beans were over but OH brought a hand full of young beans yesterday.0 -
Morning, after yesterday's rain, we have lovely bright sunshine, though not warm quite yet. So I've towels ready for OH aka reverse burglar to hang out.
A friend is coming over at coffee time though we drink tea mostly. I have a couple of hour's worth of work to do, then the rest of the day is my own so I'd better do some much needed tidying upstairs.
I have no idea what to cook today, I'm not rummaging in the freezer, OH gets very narky if I disarray get his carefully thought out freezer contents. Sometimes I do it for fun. The other week he accused me of switching the freezer off overnight, I didn't even know where the plug was.
I'm going to have some toast now. Then when OH gets up, he can go and get the Sunday Times, and I need to get dressed. I like my pjs though, they've got Batman on, so suitable for the over 65s.
That sounds like a great idea TA, have a lovely relaxing time.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all, thanks for the thread Gers X and thanks all for the birthday wishes for yesterday xx
We went to sissinghurst castle for my birthday yesterday. Weather was warm but cloudy. Had a quiche in their cafe which was nice. DH seems a lot brighter since his parents came over. I need to see about claiming child benefit seeing as DH hasn't earned anything this current tax year. I only earn less than 10k so that may not be all we can claim. Such a minefield it makes my brain ache.
Today DD has rugby training then i will be ironing later. Pile seems to have grown rapidly this week. Dinner will be cannelloni - will send DH out for tubes and milk/cream later.
TA - have a nice time away, it will do you good I'm sure X
Lainey - hope you get to see Mum today X
Hugs to anyone I've missed xxx

Good Morning all and <<hugs >> to those who need one Hope your mum had a peaceful night Lainey.
Happy birthday for yesterday Coxy11 Hope things turn around for the better for you and cafekate as well.
Weather is gorgeous here at the moment I think we had the barest sprinkle of rain during the night, and the forecast for the next few days is quite good.Longer we keep the sun the shorter the winter hopefully. It will help keep the winter bills down at least.
Did lots of knitting and catch-up tv yesterday afternoon, today I am trying to tidy up my spare room as my DD will be staying on Thursday night as we are off to Aberdeen on Friday morning and have to be up around 5.30 to catch a plane at London City airport. Arrive in Aberdeen around 11 then pick up the hire car and drive down to Brechin arriving by lunchtime hopefully. There is a smashing little place called the Bakers Oven I think its called and we ate there two years ago, so lunch will be there hopefully.Big family reunion in the evening with my cousins from Australia and the other cousins from Canada and the cousins that still live there. pretty noisey if I recall last time ,but great fun, so I'm really looking forward to it.
Hope you all have a good day today and get to do what you feel like I'm off to have some breakfast, do my menus (not hard this week) and then listen to The Archers, my normal Sunday morning really
Cheers chums

Well that was an interesting two days. For everyone who kindly asked about the wedding it went off well. Bride and groom wore matching jeans and no rings were exchanged and the ceremony took all of 5 minutes. It was planned like that though because they didn't want it to detract from the ceremony next week. DS' friend who is best man next week drove up from Brighton and only managed to hear "I now pronounce you man and wife".
The only person not there was DH, he rang me from work on Friday in terrible pain, went to St Mary's at Paddington only to be sent away without an examination because the pain had worn off. It came back so I told him to get the train to Stevenage and I would meet him and take him straight to A &E where they took him immediately to a room in a wheelchair. To cut a long story short he had a large kidney stone and was operated on yesterday morning to insert a stent to prevent kidney damage. They won't do anything about the stone itself for a few weeks.
So we aren't leaving for Italy tonight and don't know if we'll be able to drive down or anything really. I'm hoping he'll be coming home today but have no news. TBH compared to what so many of you are going through it's just a blip and would hardly bear mentioning if it wasn't for the timing. We have so much to take down for the wedding and although DS and new DIL say it doesn't matter if we have to fly we really don't want to let them down.0 -
Morning all,
Lovely bright day here after the rain most of yesterday, we did not do a lot yesterday as the weather was so bad, I went up for a nap yesterday afternoon and when I got up I found dd asleep on her bed and OH sparko on the spare bed! still that's what rainy days are for
This morning I have stripped the beds just waiting for the wm to finish with OH's work clothes in and I shall put the bedding on to wash.
Pork chops for dinner with roasties and veg I bought a back of eight small chops so they will do for dinner tomorrow too. I need to do a shop today or at least see if we need a shop, I might get away with not going one for next week.
Topsy nice to see you glad the op went well xx
Coxy check out a website called entitledto its a benefits calculation site which might help you xx
Have good days all xx0
