O/S Daily Thread Saturday 10th September

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all
I was up during the night for a few hours with an upset tum so I'm having a slow start to the day, my L&M has a cuppa.
DGD is up but doesn't want breakfast yet so she is on my kindle, looking for craft ideas on YouTube for us to try later.
My L&M is working today so after I've dropped him off I'll give DD1 a lift to her Saturday job.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning folks and thanks for starting us off HESTER. I am in a state of paranoia just now as there is a giant spider on the loose somewhere. It ran across the rug at speed and by the time I had climbed back down off the table it had disappeared. That's the 5th one in recent weeks, where are they coming from? I know I'm a wimp but I hate the things.

I have a hair appointment at 9.00 and I may need to ask for an estimate it has got so out of hand! I think I once read nails and hair grow quicker in the warmer months and they so do. I shall have to be on the 8.30 bus and afterwards might just have a poke around our bargain approaching sell by date frozen food shop and do some bargain spotting.

We will have an unforeseen bill to pay shortly. The push button flush on the loo has been acting daft for a few days and yesterday morning it started filling up manically. Mr TA (who knows nowt about plumbing) decided to start tampering and we were met with horrendous screeching noises from all the pipes in the house! So I rang a local plumber to come and sort us out! He went for a new flush thing and eventually sorted us out. (We now await the bill)

No phone call from the consultant yesterday re Mr TA's blood tests so we are hoping the surgery did fax them on to him as promised.

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where needed. LAINEY I hope mum is still pain-free. BB hope the inj helps. Posi vibes that something turns up soon for CAFEKATE and COXY's DHs. When the kids were young Mr TA was out of work for about 9 months and I know what a worry it is making every penny do the work of three. Hope the property viewing goes well HESTER if DH isn't working. SNOOZER best wishes to the bride and groom today. Take care all xx

  • Morning, what a soggy night, and still raining.

I've had some toast and honey and lemon to drink since the milk went off. I woukd like some tea.

Too cream crackered to post more, have to work later, will post later perhaps, if I can get through enough work.

Sorry to hear about the job situation, hope things come right soon

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off HH.

Yesterday we had the rain for most of the day and then a terrible bout of high winds and driving rain in the evening, it was rattling off the windows. Now it's bright blue and clear.

My Mum had to have some repairs done to her boiler yesterday so she was holed up in her dining room with the microwave and kettle for most of the day. She gets very anxious at anything out of routine, think it's an age thing. Anyway, it's done, dusted and paid for. I can relax now.

I had a meeting with the course leader of the stuff I'll be teaching and feel much happier about the content now. Some of the earlier info was a little confusing so coffee, cake and a chat really sorted out my confusion.

Whilst lying in bed last night I decided to look at blinds for the three upstairs rooms. The bathroom is in the front of the house, it overlooks the fields and hills and sea which is lovely in summer. Even though I'm not a fan of them I've got a net curtain up, however an upward pulling blind would be better, especially in the darker night and mornings. Not that there's anybody out there but it's pitch black and I can't rid myself of the feeling of being 'exposed'. Not sure the the cows, sheep or ocassional deer are much bothered by anyone sitting on the loo!

My great-nephew is 10 today. He's so bright and clever it's scary, I wish his grandfather (my brother) was around to know him

Anyway, here's to the start of a new day. Hugs to TA, Lainey, Coxy and Cafekate. I'll be thinking of you and yours.

    Happy Saturday.

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Hester, hope your poorly tum gets better soon x

My DOH is off up to the North East this morning taking youngest SS off to Uni, have packed him up a bag of provisions to get him started, I did do him a mini basic cooking course a few weeks back so hope he's remembered some of that.

I was sat watching tv last night and my nose just started streaming and couldn't stop sneezing :( it's not as bad this morning but still feel like have started a cold. Will dose myself up but obviously don't want to take anything in to Mum so will have to see about visiting later.
She seemed a bit brighter yesterday, her blood sugar levels seem to keep dipping low so took some ginger nuts in for her to nibble on, the hospitals answer is orange juice with sugar stirred in which she really isn't keen on. The pain seems to be pretty manageable at the moment thanks TA.
I did make time to get over and see Bill yesterday evening, hadn't seen him since Tuesday and was missing him like mad. Time with him keeps me sane so need to make sure I do get some, he's had me weeping against his big old shoulder before and will again no doubt.
So plans today are give the house a good going through and then hopefully visit Mum later, sniffles permitting.

Have a good day all, take care folks x

Having a cuppa while I browse on here. and think about what to make for breakfast.

Hugs to lainey,TA and hester and anyone who is poorly and or worried.

I made a beef and veg stew last night and have two portions in the fridge so don't have to do much cooking today. DD and SIL come round tomorrow morning to take me to a christening so I want to make them a quick bite after having done a quick tidy round. I am still trying to eat sensibly and get back to the weight loss I managed earlier in the year. If only weight were as quick to lose as it is to pile on!:o

I have assembled one of the two floor lamps I ordered and it looks lovely but the living room floor is awash with polystyrene bits. The lamp is a sort of chocolate brown with metal leaves at the top and crystal look petals with the bulb inside. There is no point hoovering till I have made up the second lamp so I will try to do that today and wrap some presents.

Hoping the vitamins and losing weight will help my knees which are protesting against what they are expected to carry. I am a size eighteen so not that huge but it is obviously not good for me.

    Hugs to all

  • Hugs to those who need one there are a few who need a bit of support on here, Lainey animals seem to sense when you're feeling low don't they, but give you such unconditional love.Hope Mum is feeling better today
H/H hope your tum settles down
Gers I know how your Mum feels ,being somewhat older myself I dislike anything that goes wrong indoors and upsets the routine of things.
CafeKate and Coxy11 fingers crossed for something to turn up for your OH's its worrying isn't it.
T/A the eight legged friend is probably as terrified of you, hence the speed, and they do eat any nasty bugs in the house, although I do understand as I am not keen on anything with more than two legs living in my house either :):):) try conkers in the corners of the room it seems to deter them
AoD don't work too hard try and make a bit of 'me' time for yourself if you can

well the weather is bright and sunny at the moment but rain is due at some point today.I have done my 'morning mile' and you can smell it in the air a sort of ozone smell.Still it will be good for the gardens to get a drink and its free (no hoses to use on the grass )

Today I shall whizz round with the hoover and generally just have a quick tidy up then its feet up and some knitting and watch some catch-up tv I have several episode of 'Victoria' to treat myself to this afternoon. Found a Y/S steak in the freezer so that's dinner tonight sorted with a small jacket spud and some salad.

Hope you all have a good day whatever you are up to

    Cheers chums JackieO xxx

Sorry about the job coxy :( x

Fingers crossed for good news TravellingAbuela x

Mr tru went out at 3am, dropping master tru and his girlfriend off at the airport. I didn't hear them moving about or leave the house, but woke up when the car pulled off the drive. I haven't been back to sleep properly though I dozed for around 20 minutes. They'll be halfway to Tenerife by now, hope the weather's better there than it is here.

It's raining and feels muggy, hope we're not in for another sticky day. I'm going to wash my blankets, when I gather them all up I'll check which colours I've used, pick different colours and make a start on another one. Not sure how the carpets got so messy in just one day but I need to vacuum again. I haven't made any plans apart from that, I'll probably fall asleep after lunch :D

    Morning all,

No rain here atm but we are due some later, I have the wm on with a dark load which I will try to hang out for a while.

The log burner man came last night to measure up and gave us a really good price for fitting he is a friend of OH which helped I think, but he told me my choice was too big for the fireplace, so a lot of searching online and I have found one which I love so will go ahead and order today and then book the chap to come and do his bit :D I am very excited, OH can get his hands on loads of wood (he is a carpenter) so we should be cosy for pennies this winter !

Need to have a clean through today wont take long with OH helping, then get madam over the fields for her walk.

Dinner tonight will be chicken chow mein type of thing with some veggie spring rolls for dd.

Snoozer hope the wedding goes well.

Lainey that bit about you sobbing on Bill's shoulder made me tear up , animals are so understanding aren't they ? hugs xx

Hope the job situation improves for people x

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Its looks as if it has rained all night, we do need it, we need several weeks of rain to fill the cracks in the ground, some of them are so deep its frightening.

Need to tackle the kitchen this morning, I was too crackered to do it yesterday. OH has said he will help me.........

This afternoon I need to get in the sewing room, I have been asked to put a tutorial on my blog, so need to actually do it.......another UFO....and post photographs. Putting it on a separate page rather than in the body of my blog.

OH now has my old computer, really its not that much different to the one he had, but alsy night it was 'I can't find this, how do I do that' etc etc he knows fine how to do things just like to have me jumping up every second minute to sort him out......aarrgghhhhh.......

Hester is you house up for sale, I wondered as you said you were going to look at property. I wish I could loose some of the clutter in this place, but everything I put my hand on OH decided he really really needs it!!! We have shelves full of books which he never reads........

Now I have divorced myself from the quilting group I am hoping to get more fabric used up. I really do have a lot. Several UFO's sitting about too. At least I will not be under the same pressure to find new things for the group to do, they are now well able to go out and find things for them selves.

Right time to get off this machine and tackle the kitchen.
