This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone.

Back up with the birdies again. I find it difficult to sleep in the bed in Mum's spare, the mattress is a bit lumpy.

I'm off to Edinburgh today to catch the 'Celts' exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland. It ends in two weeks so this is my best chance at seeing it. It's been almost two years since I visited Edinburgh. I'll take the low level train and meander my way to Haymarket.

Yesterday was a lovely day in Glasgow so I was surprised to read that all my own local ferries were cancelled, I can only imagine it was high winds.

Camelot - the Billy Joel concert got rave reviews from all the papers so I hope you enjoyed it as much as the reviewers.

Hugs to all. Happy start of a new week.

    Morning :hello:

We seem to be attracting loons! Mr tru's mate's wife knocked on the door and asked if he was in. I said yes, come in and while I was closing the door I said he was upstairs and would be down in a minute. She said 'oh, by he I meant Scampi' – who on earth goes to visit a dog, especially when they hardly know the owners?! - and started squealing his name and waving her hands in his face. Hackles up from head to tail and lots of growling. I made for the lounge before he started snarling and told her to wait in the kitchen as I shut the lounge door. She immediately opened the door, followed us in and started squealing at him again. He's not a biter (he has great bite inhibition) but if he had snapped at her, I wouldn't have been at all surprised. Mr tru came down as I was distracting him, I told him to get rid of her – my exact words! - and she seemed oblivious to me and what I'd just said. Then the doorbell rang again, turned out the woman and her OH were visiting friends up the road, one of the other visitors (who we've never met before) couldn't find her so came to our house when her OH told her where she was! Next thing I knew they were both in the kitchen (how?) and asked if they could sit down. Mr tru put the lead on Scampi and said we're just going out actually. Then had to go for a walk that he hadn't planned and didn't want to go on, just to make them leave. This woman and the one the other day have now both been told off by me. If either of them do it again, especially in my own house and garden (not that either of them are welcome), I'll lose my rag and then they'll know about it. They'll be too scared to ever approach a dog again. lol.

So my patience with people has gone. A complete stranger walking past us and paying us no attention is one thing when Scampi kicks off, it's my problem to sort. But anyone I know and have explained to and they still insist on acting like his best friend is going to get it with both barrels. If anyone turns up at the door I'll be ignoring it unless I know they're coming and that they'll listen to me regarding dog greetings.

    Aaaaand breathe!
Today I'll be treating my feet, which have decided to dry out so much that the heels are splitting. We'll do some stranger training from a distance, hopefully that'll go well. I need to sort some paperwork, dust upstairs and do an online shop. I haven't planned anything else, I've been awake since 3am again so I'm hoping to sleep for a while this afternoon.

    Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready to go to work and DS2 still in his pit.

Now light with some light cloud and pink bits in the sky, air feels a bit cooler.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, HG green beans, yorkshires and gravy. Tonight we should be eating fish in various forms, I was supposed to have fish pie, but there wasn't enough mash potato left after the roast yesterday for the topping, so may either buy more potatoes this morning when I stop to buy the milk for work or just have a jacket potato with some plain fish, I'd be happy with that but I was intending in making 2 portions of fish pie and 2 battered fish pieces (in the freezer). I don't normally run short of potatoes as buy them by the sack until new potatoes are in season and plentiful, so I'm thinking I need to buy a sack soon. I wanted to make a lasagne at the back end of last week but we swapped the menu about and it was going to be Saturday nights' dinner but we were still all to full from lunch, so it still hasn't been on the menu, I'm thinking if I make the meat sauce tonight when I get in from work, whilst I'm making tonights' dinner and packups etc, I could either then just make the white sauce tomorrow night when I put it all together or just make it all tonight and put it in the fridge overnight, ready to just bung in the oven tomorrow night - it may be just waiting to see what sort of day I have at work and how I feel when I get in - if it's been a manic Monday I may not feel like cooking! We'll see.

We were quite lazy yesterday and didn't do that much, watched several bits of catch up tv and some of the paralympics, such inspirational athletes.

Although I haven't been that productive over the weekend, I set myself a list of 3 things to do on Friday - I'm pleased to say that I got some motivation and managed to get all 3 done, i got the food shopping done, tackled the ironing pile, and then did some baking, I made 2 dozen chocolate cup cakes, so whilst not loads felt so much better and not so low that I'd set something to aim for and had managed to do it all, my mood was so much better over the weekend. Will just set small targets I think.

    Keep safe and well x

Thanks for starting us of Gers, have a lovely time in Edinburgh.
tru - You are really surrounded by stupid people, eh? Very strange behaviour.

Billy Joel was fantastic, I always worry that someone 'older' is going to sound different but his voice is still the same. We had a great weekend despite the hotel (Travelodge) being very tired and hot (no air con) and the drizzle on Saturday. It was dry for the concert but were under the cover anyway as we were so high up!

When it started there was a terrible echo and it sounded terrible, I could have cried but then the speakers on our side were switched on! Took 2 hours to get back but the crowds kept us entertained. Beautiful day yesterday, wandered around Spittalfields and Brick Lane markets, saw the cycling Tour of Britain racing around Trafalgar Square and sat in Green Park on a deckchair for an hour or so before heading back to the airport.

Got back at 11.30 last night and up again at 6 this morning so it will be a long day. I have the hygienist at 5 and then I may have a bath and get my pjs on.

Hope you have a happy Monday, take care. XX

We should be on the ferry now on our way to DS' Italian wedding but DH is still in hospital. The dr said he could come home yesterday but then he started to feel pain again so they decided to x-ray to make sure the stent was still in the right place which didn't happen until about 9.30 pm. He's waiting for rounds now when hopefully he will be let out. If he's not fit to drive down DD and I have decided we will leave on Wednesday with all the wedding paraphernalia and DH will fly with his sister and and DD's husband on Friday. I'm feeling a tad stressed at the moment, not helped by DH's sister who is a bit of a panicker.

Hilstep, I'm sorry to hear your news but really admire your attitude, I hope I will be as gracious when my time comes.

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc, glad you are feeling brighter X In your posts you always sound so busy and organised, I an in awe X

    Hester - take care X
Snoozer - your poor DH X Glad that the official wedding went off okay and hope that everything goes well for your trip to Italy xx
Hilstep - your post has put a lot into perspective for me, bless you xxx
tru - how crazy and rude people are to do that in your house/on your property. Well done for sticking to your guns. Xx

Thank you for the suggestions about benefit websites. I have completed a child benefit form and they can backdate for 12 weeks so that is a start. FIL wants to give us money but not if it means we don't get what we are entitled to, which is fair enough. DH paid into the system for many years so don't know why I feel bad.

I am off to the church today. Need to write some editorial for our magazine, so have to find some creative juices from somewhere! Dinner last night ended up as Mac n cheese as I forgot to defrost the pork mince for cannelloni - will get it out now.

Hope you all have a great day.
    Coxy

Snoozer - sorry, cross posted. I'm sorry DH isn't home yet and that your plans have had to change xx you sound like you have plan b sorted. Wishing you all well and sending positive vibes xx

    Morning all,

Slight chill in the air this morning autumn is on the way for sure !

We had a good day yesterday apart from OH getting the runs ! we went for lunch at a local cafe and a really long walk through the woods, we both had coleslaw on our plates and I left mine because it seemed a funny colour (it was brownish) but OH ate his and has not been off the loo since :( I have reported it to the cafe and the food standards agency, its a shame as the cafe used to be excellent but its really gone downhill !

Off to work for me today still short staffed as one person is on holiday one has left and now one of the young girls have texted to say they cant come in ! another busy week then !

Pie mash and veg for dinner tonight, and I need to do an online shop and put the washing away.

Hilstep what a brave courageous lady you are, I take my hat off to you love, sending love and hugs to you xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good Morning chums and << hugs to all in need >>. I think Hilstep's post has put a lot of things into perspective for us all this morning.
Makes you appreciate so many things,or as my Macmillan nurse told me 8 years ago 'Don't sweat the small things, look further ahead every day'
    and I do.

The sun is up and shining and the sky is a beautiful shade of blue I think today is going to be a scorcher.
This morning I have book club which I always enjoy, good bunch of like-minded folk who can natter for England about books :):):).

Tonight I don't even have to cook, as I came home with some left-over sliced lamb and veg from last nights dinner, so its a quick zap in the microwave with some gravy to make and dinner is done :)

I hope everyone has a good day what ever they are doing

    Cheers chums

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread Gers x

Thank you Hillstep, your post was not only courageous but incredibly dignified, as Jackie said it puts a lot of things into perspective x

I did get over to see Mum yesterday evening, it was lovely to spend some time with her and catch up on news. Her Stoma certainly seems to be calming down a tad and hopefully she can now start to manage it better with a view to going home. Hate to say but it's a case of tough love now on her learning to cope.

Have a few errands to run this morning then will head back in to the hospital this afternoon with an aim to get over to see Bill this evening.

Tru those women's behaviour is incredulous, pushing themselves into your property and squealing at Scampi, my Rosie especially wouldn't take too kindly to that and would wrinkle her nose for sure.

Snoozer am so sorry that your DH is poorly, fingers crossed the revised wedding plans work out.

Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks x
