Subscription meals: overpriced?
All my colleagues and friends are raving about these subscription meal by post services (e.g. Hello Fresh and Gusto). I'm apparently their target market (mid-20s working "professional") but can't see the purpose or value of these boxes. My colleagues seem to think they are "good value" as "you don't waste anything".…

Cleaning Induction Hob Discolouring
I recently rented an apartment with an induction hob for a couple of months. We used the kitchen on a daily basis, and it appears that a number of marks have appeared on one of the glass burners. The landowner is not pleased and is asking us to replace the whole induction hob, which is very expensive. We had never used an…

Recipe ideas
I have one of those gadgets for making stuffed burgers, and have bought some turkey mince. Most of the recipes I can find are for stuffing them with different cheeses, but my son want's to try tuna and sweetcorn. The thing is, he normally has this with mayonnaise, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing for a stuffed…

Store in a cool, dry place...
My food cupboard/larder where I keep all my tinned and packet food is suddenly a lot less cool after next door's boiler was installed on the other side of its back wall. In fact it's not far off feeling like an airing cupboard in there now. I'm assuming that it's no big deal when it's just been for a few days, but…

Fruit cake recipe like Bettys
Bettys of Harrogate make a completely delicious walnut and ginger fruitcake, but it's expensive. I have been experimenting with making something like it myself but can't get it right. It has sultanas, ground almonds, walnuts, pineapple in it with lovely crystallised ginger and walnuts on top (I think I've got it all - I…

I have now progressed to buttonholes - yay- but, having watched various you tube videos of how to do it on the janome I am stuck. I seem to get my buttonhole foot in place, the sensor clip comes down, and away I…

Old Style Community?
I am trying to be old style and frugal especially now as I have changed jobs. I like my job much more (I am now a support worker in a care home for adults with learning difficulties and other issues) but it is a minimum wage role which is a big drop from what I am used to. It is almost a year since I moved towns to live…

Dress can't be washed or dry cleaned! What to do?
I got a dress from fleabay for my DD1 for a wedding in the summer. Gorgeous but needs cleaned. The label says DO NOT WASH. DO NOT DRY CLEAN. MAY BE SPOT CLEANED IF NECESSARY. It needs more than a spot clean to be honest after having a sweaty teen inside it for hours, and after the cream train at the back went over some…
