O/S Daily Thread Monday 26th October 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and now going to work. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, it’s half term here, so will wake him just before I leave for work.
Now getting light, dry underfoot.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, broccoli, peas, Yorkshires and gravy, ice cream or treats from the tins for those that wanted some. Dinner tonight will be smoked sausage, bacon and mushroom pasta with crème fraiche sauce.
Back to work today – expecting it to be quite busy, in the holidays generally not very busy but then gets horrendous late morning – we’ll see.
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
I sat down yesterday to watch one of my recorded programs. There's room for 500 hours of programs and it was 95% full  Now while I think a lot of people probably underestimate how much telly they watch, including me, there's no way I spend that much time staring at the screen! Turns out I'd set a couple of the series links on HD channels instead of normal (takes up five times more space in HD) and forgot to set them all to 'new only'. So it's recorded all the repeats of old series too, some of the channels show up to four old series at various times of the day. I sat there and deleted most of them, I'm pleased to say that it's now down to 20% and will soon be down to almost nothingI only sat down to watch last week's Doc Martin, lol.
I have the same problem as you camelot! I still can't decide what to hang at our bathroom window. It's on the side of the house and next door's house is set back a bit from ours so everyone coming down the road can see in if the light's on. I've been hanging a small towel through the top opening window then closing it to keep the towel in placeI've decided to go for the scruffy look for now – a bit of string through the cut-down Scampi-ripped net curtain from the holiday place, held in place with a couple of stick-on hooks attached to the window frame. If the hooks don't hold, I'll arrange it in the same way as the towel and tell the other trus they can't open the little top window, just the bigger one

I was in the kitchen yesterday and thought I heard a noise, it was so quiet I decided I'd imagined it. Heard it again a short while later, a bit of investigation showed proof of mice under the sink unit. I pulled the plinths off and put poison down, I'll leave it a couple of days then check to see if it's been eaten.
Most of the washing has been done, I only stopped because I ran out of room to hang it all. I'll do another three loads this morning – should be two but I changed the bed yesterday so I have that too – then there's the dusting to be done.
I need to go through the freezers and see if we need anything, then do an online shop. I also need to buy a carpet cleaner, I'll do a search today but will probably get a Vax, people who've bought one seem happy with it.

Morning all
We're off to the hospital soon, I'm getting suited & booted and I'm wearing heels, I stalk well in heels!
I have a notepad and a list of questions.
I'm tired of being told 'MIL want's to go home'.
No she doesn't she is scared to go home as FIL can't manage, she cannot get out of bed, on Thursday a nurse insisted she got out of bed and then dropped her!
We have a battle on our hands, and that's the royal we, I'm expecting everyone else to just capitulate to the hospitals demands.
On the bright side, my stress hives have decreased, on the less bright side, my hair has started to fall out!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you nmic for starting us off.
I didn't want to get up this morning, I always have truble with the hour. I remember when I was working, I don't know what it was, but it used to take me about 2 weeks to adjust.
I have washing to do today so will not be going out. DD1 came to lunch yesterday and DGD1 was in as well, so I made a big pot of chilli which was delicious, and I had bought a chocolate mousse gataux, which I understand was delicious.
DGD1 spent most of the day making her halloween dress. I haven't seen it yet, but she is very good at sewing so I am sure it is lovely.
Himself is sleeping slightly better, but says he feels more relaxed when he goes to bed so that helps.
I think we will have chicken kiev and salad this evening, it is time I started using some of the food in the freezer.
Judi I hope those bruises have faded now. I am asthmatic so I cough a lot when I have a cold but I have never had bruises like that. I hope you have had a peaceful weekend.
Hugs to all who might need or want one.
Have a good day

Hester, that sounds very worrying and rather similar to what happened with my mum's husband though in his case, mum was desperate for him to come home and will never admit that she finds it very hard to manage. He has had several falls in hospital and at home and those on top of the initial distrust fall. I hope you are able to get this sorted out.
I must get ready for work.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good gracious Hester, things can't go on like this for much longer.
Your poor MIL is dying and you are going to be ill if this carries on. I know you will be firm with the hospital, I thought at one time they were talking of sending her to a Hospice.
Good luck

Morning all. A miserable start here but at least no rain is forecast. The promised 9 deg sounds pretty chilly though.
I've been up since even sillier o'clock this morning. Bad night with my IC giving me grief. In the end I just got up, dosed myself with painkillers and got my feet up on the sofa with my book. It feels to be easing off a bit now but I feel like a wet rag and hope I can manage a nap later.
No plans for today and as there is quite a bit of yesterday's chicken and veg left that's a couple of meals spoken for.
It's now 3 weeks since my wedding ring vanished from my finger and it still hasn't turned up. I doubt it will show up now. As it was such a busy weekend at the time it could have been lost at the hospital, in the hotel or on the train or taxi. Or even next day cutting back lots of stuff in the garden or perhaps somewhere in the house. I suppose we should buy another but somehow it's not quite the same.
Have a good day all (((((HUGS))))) if needed/wanted. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Hi Candlelight
We are fighting to get her into a hospice, but getting the runaround, FIL doesn't know if Friday or Wednesday and drinking too much. BIL2 is hassling to get the will changed, BIL3 is also seeking solace in a bottle. BIL4 is on board, today will show if he's going to be any good in a fight, otherwise it's just me, my hubby is on my side but finding it all very difficult.

Oh HESTER I hope something can get sorted today. I just can't understand what the rest of the family have against a hospice. Surely having MIL looked after and pain free is the main priority. Sounds like only you and your DH realise this, and maybe BIL4. Thinking of you xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Morning All
HH - Big hugs to you, what a difficult time, stick to your guns!
Not raining at the moment but quite breezy. The washing was on the airers yesterday and is dry, just need to put it away.
Salad made for PL, not sure what's for tea, I'll look in the freezer before I go to work.
Neighbour put the blind up yesterday so I can have a shower with the light on, although it would be ok this morning without what with the clocks changing. Painter text yesterday to say he will be coming on Thursday, can't wait to have the hall, stairs and landing painted then I can get a carpet organised. I will go for the paint on my way home, he has told me what to get from a trade place, I have chosen a colour.
Right, in the shower for me. Have a good week. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a nice bright morning here with quite a mild day forecast. Hubby has just left for work and the girls are all still in bed. I expect to see them around lunch time :rotfl::rotfl:.
I have plans to crack on with cleaning and tidying the house. The girls want to earn some money so I will be making a list of chores which they can then sort out between themselves. Once I have done that, I am expecting some shopping to be delivered this morning and I am going to teach DD12 how to make a boiled fruit cake this afternoon.
DD's 12 and 14 gutted my airing cupboard last night and now it looks amazing. I keep opening the door to have a look. It was amazing what stuff I had been keeping just in case. I found curtains and voiles from before DD12 was born as they fitted windows in our last house. Needless to say it has all been sorted ready for the charity shop and bin day.
Poor DD12 had a full on panic attack though whilst we were sorting. DD15 gets them too so I knew how to calm her but it was very distressing for her. I wish she could see herself through my eyes, she is an amazing girl, so kind and thoughtful but she has no confidence in herself. All I can do is keep telling her how much I love her and hope it gets through.
Hubby has asked for beef curry for tea so that's nice and easy. The girls will have pasta as they are not keen on a hot curry. I will make spag bol from scratch later as well to have tomorrow.
Sorry to hear of so many poorly people on here, I hope you all feel a lot better soon and whatever situation that is stressing you out gets resolved quickly. I hope you all manage to have a nice day despite everything going on, take care xx0
