O/S Daily Thread Sunday 25th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all

Up at silly o'clock here again, deep joy.

Hugs to all the poorlies & anyone else in need.

Plans for today include emptying the washing basket, it's not supposed to rain until Tuesday but it will be cloudy & only around 11 deg so I can't see the washing drying outside.

I need to make some phone calls today with regards to MIL, I'm hoping to persuade hubby to chill out in front of the GP for an hour or 2 as he's stressed and exhausted.

I have everything in for all the meals for next week, except potatoes, so I'll got and get those later, I'm doing a full cooked breakfast this morning for hubby and a lamb shank for dinner.

Have a good day everyone.

Hugs Hester

  • Morning one and all. I managed to sleep till 4.00 (the new 5.00!!!) so my normal time! By 5.00 (the new 6.00!!) I'd had enough and came down to put the kettle on. That'll be me nodding off on the sofa again early evening.

I want to wash the bedding and other bits today but our forecast much like yours HESTER and SKS bedding is a swine to dry indoors.

Lunch will be roast chicken with veggies etc and some left over syrup sponge for afters. Mr TA's eating was improving steadily but this last couple of days he's gone backwards a bit so we're back to left overs in the fridge again.

I got the upright defrosted and re-organised yesterday and today I want to tackle the chest freezer. It's stuffed full of veg, foraged fruit and overflow from the upright and ended up a right jumble.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))))) if wanted/needed. Take care xx

Here's where we stayed GYPSY A creative photographer must've been used, the rooms look much bigger than they actually are :D Still great though.

We decided to go over Dartmoor on the way back. I was looking forward to a nice walk, I got out of the car but it was so cold I got straight back in, lol. Two traffic jams. One involved us and some sheep, the other involved us, another car and seven cows – who wouldn't move off the road, they decided to walk along it :D

Oh I do love my own bed, sofa, shower.......... :D
Scampi was thrilled to see miss and master tru, I thought he was going to knock them flying :D

I was up at 5am, not bad considering I fell asleep on the sofa before 9pm. I staggered up the stairs to bed at about 11pm and dropped straight off again. I haven't started the washing yet, when we got back miss tru's was in the machine and master tru's was waiting to go in. I'll make a start in a mo. I don't plan on doing much else, I'm going to have a lazy day. I'll get back to my routine tomorrow, when everyone's at work. I need to do a bit of extra planning – I look, and feel, in desperate need of an overhaul :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I was in bed by 9pm last night so I got up very early this morning. I had an upset tum yesterday so took some immodium and went to bed in the end to try and get some rest. I feel loads better this morning but I will be careful of what I eat today.

We lit all the candles last night instead of putting the main light on and it was lovely for a change. Hubby watched the film Gravity which was very good and I sort of dozed next to him. I've ordered the yankee candle advent calendar as a treat for me so I will be lighting more candles that actually smell lovely I hope.

We are having roast beef for dinner today. Hubby made a lovely butternut squash soup yesterday which was delicious. Even the girls liked it and there is still a little bit left. I still have washing to do, I am not bothering to hang it outside any more, I will just tumble dry it now as I can't bear wet washing hanging around. Our tumble dryer does a load in about half an hour so it's not too expensive on the electric.

Tru, I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday but there is no place like home is there :D.
Hester, I really hope you manage to get some more sleep.
TravellingAbuela, it sounds like you are doing a marvellous job trying to feed up Mr TA, I really hope he gets his appetite back.

Speaking of feeding up, I'm going to risk a bit of toast and a cup of tea so I will love you and leave you, take care xx

    Morning everyone

Now light, drying underfoot and chilly.

Hugs to all those that need/want them x

Woke early due to the time change, always takes my body clock a day or 2 to get back to normal, seems that other people suffer the same!

Yesterday was a nice but long day - we left home at 8.45am and got home at 7.30pm - the meeting we went to was 2.5 hours away and it started raining within 10 minutes of starting the journey and rained on and off - the entire journey, continued when we got to the venue and then was steady rain all day, it had just stopped and was starting to brighten up when we left to start our journey home - the roads were awful as there was loads of laying water and some really stupid drivers that were driving way to fast for the conditions. We had a luncheon at the venue prior to the meeting, and then coffee/tea and a bun directly after, so we picked up some dinner from the local chippy on our way home, boys had already cooked and eaten what I'd left for them.

Today we'll just be chilling, lunch will be roast pork, roasties, mash, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy, if I remember and get time I might braise some red cabbage too.

We may go to visit the parents, depends on how we get on with jobs/chores etc here.

DS1 chuffed as he's got his car insurance renewal and it's dropped dramatically - so he's a happy bunny.

Have the WM on at the moment with DH and DS1's work clothes in it, they got put in but not switched on Friday night, so will need to put those in the TD later. Will start prepping the veg etc for lunch shortly and I'll get the pack ups etc done, then once lunch has been cooked and eaten I'll have some chill time, before going back to work tomorrow - where does the weekend go?

    Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

It's light outside! After the driving rain last night all looks calm now.

We had a lovely time yesterday even if we did just drive up past Oban, had a cooked breakfast and then drove back again. I really enjoyed being with friends and 'dossing' around the house. Now I'm up about ready to take the road back to the airport again.

There's plenty of leftovers in the fridge to use up. I'll wash the bed linen again and then catch up on recorded TV programmes.

I hope everyone has a peaceful Sunday.
  • Morning all, I'm another one who went to bed at 9 as drooping and got up at normal time so more drooping later. Towels washed overnight but not very likely to dry outside, still they might get a bit dry. I must do some paperwork today, and have no idea about dinner as DS IS, I think, going out but not a clue when so decisions will have to wait.
I have always liked having the world to myself for an hour or so in the morning but can't see much point in clocks changing.

    Morning All

Another one here with a mixed up time clock, my body says one thing and the clocks say another! Maybe I'll have a little nap later.

Had a good day with DD yesterday, had a wander around John Lewis at all the things we couldn't afford, then other shops, went for lunch then to the yellow and blue shed. DD got a shelf unit for a cupboard although she will have to get another to sit on top of it as we didn't look closely enough at the measurements! I got a blind for the bathroom - I can't have a shower with the light on at the moment, the bathroom faces the road and my neighbours!

Went back to DDs for a couple of hours, we moved her living room furniture round and it looks much better. Had a good clean round too so she's a happy girlie.

Not much happening today, I really do need to tackle the paperwork and make some soup with some bendy veg from the fridge.

HH - Hope DH manages some rest, what a stressful time for you all.
Gers - Be careful, lots of standing water on the way to the airport.

May get up in a while, once I have finished this pot of tea! Take care. XX

The skies have cleared and there is a breeze now, so towels dancing on the line and here I am, pootling about on here and drinking tea. Also I have been reading The Girl on the Train, which cost me £2 in a charity shop, still on the Times bestseller list in hardback, bargainous! Quite an unsettling story. Toast now I think, with marmite.

Morning folks, get well wishes to those who are poorly and blessings to those who are stressed.

Cold bright day here, no-one told the dogs that they should have an extra hour asleep in beds so the whining started just after 5, lord :rotfl:
Might risk some washing on the line for a few hours and then finish off on the airers, other than that just one to bake a marmalade loaf cake for the week, we have Gammon steaks for lunch and still have some parsley so will make a sauce to go with. Herbs is just about all I do have growing now.
This afternoon will pop over to my DB's to have a piece of DN's birthday cake, bless him he is 15 and apparently told his parents that he didn't want a tea party but SIL insisted. Think she is struggling with them growing up.
Anyways, time for toast and coffee, hope everyone has a peaceful and restful day x

    Morning all,

No leftovers in my fridge and it's difficult to plan my shopping. One week hubby wants to eat out all the time, next week I'm cooking at home. No great hardship as meat freezes but you can't defrost a big piece of meat in half an hour. Anyway I'm playing safe tonight as we have salmon.

Hubby, never one to time his medication when he's got a cold has now overdosed on flu medication and it's upset his stomach. He spent most of the early hours on the bog...I'll eat my hat if he gets into work tomorrow.

I'm feeling better. Dropped into the home yesterday to give Mom some grapes. She loves fruit. I didn't stay though just in case. I'll probably leave it to the weekend.

Not got anything planned. It's accounts day for hubby. The last weekend in the month. The only time in the month I have a healthy bank balance.

Hester, thinking of your poor husband going through all that stress with his family. Such an awful time for him.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.
