Janome 525 buttonhole help - please

Options
I purchased a janome 525 recently as I am learning to sew and know they used this model on the sewing bee. I have now progressed to buttonholes - yay- but, having watched various you tube videos of how to do it on the janome I am stuck. I seem to get my buttonhole foot in place, the sensor clip comes down, and away I go.... or should I say not go. The machine whirrs into action, sews - but doesn t go anywhere, I just end up with a pile of stitches on top of each other. Is it something I've done (probably), or a fault? Any ideas..... I've tried ringing Janome but they are shut until Monday. Many thanks

  • May seem a silly question but have you put the button in the back of the foot.

Hello there, yes I have. The foot hangs down at the back which would seem to thus make it difficult to feed through, with the weight of the button. I "seem" to be doing the correct things but it wont move......

Are you doing it the right way round. If its stitching on the spot you havent slid the bar of the foot into the starting position. Cant remember if you have to slide the holder all the way backwards or forwards

Thanks for the link westcountry saver - I have had a look at that and to be honest, can't see that he is doing anything differently :(
flea72 - ooh, that's interesting - I haven't slid a bar (other than to get the button in place). Though I have followed all instructions. I'm wondering if my sensor isn't working? though fear its more likely user error.....

The buttonhole foot should slide backwards n forwards (when the foot is raised). So the when you start sewing the button you have put in the holder is either right against where the foot attches to the machine, or is a few cms behind it (depending on which way you have slid it)

The sensor, is usually a bar you drop down from the back of the machine (near where you raise the foot). If you dont have the foot in the correct starting position, then the sensor will stop travel (hence the stitiching on one spot)
