This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning All
Hugs to all the poorlies and anyone else in need.
Sleep has deserted me again, so I'm downstairs hoping not to wake hubby & DGD.
I'm going to M&S today to get MIL a couple of new nightdresses, FIL text me & asked me to get them for her.
He has discovered the joys of texting & contacts me regularly, it relieves hubby of some of the calls he was getting from him.
Hubby gets enough calls from the rest of the family & also from work when he's not there, the other caretaker has memory problems so phones him a lot.
We had a team building exercise at work yesterday, I've no idea what it was as I was told just to get on with my work and not join in. Seems a funny way to build a team, but hey ho. Fortunately I have a very high opinion of myself, so I wasn't upset, more bemused. A colleague from a different team ended up devastated and in tears when this happened to her.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
Thank you Hester for starting us off.
A slightly better night was had at Candlelight Towers, Himself is still in bed which is a miracle in itself. I know he hasn't slept all night but it was better, hopefully he will feel more rested.
I think it has been raining most of the night, but we need to pop out for a few bits this morning. DD1 is coming for lunch tomorrow, but I am not doing a roast I will make a big pot of chilli for a change.
We took Sister and BIL out for a carvery yesterday for their wedding anniversary which was nice, went back to theirs for coffee and then came home. The cat wasn't happy because her lunch was late
Have a good day all

Judi That looks a bit worrying, I'd go back to the doc sooner rather than later if it were me. Please be careful xx

The curtains have been replaced – phew! They're exactly the same as the old ones so I wasn't going to mention it to the owners. But they are soooo white and the others look grey in comparison. There are three netted windows across the front of this place, if you stand outside and look at it, it's so obvious. Still wondering whether to tell them or just forget about it.
I'm looking forward to going home today. I want my own bed (this one's quite small) and it'll be nice not to have to rely on the car – I get in just fine but when I get out, no matter how careful I am, I do something to my hip and I spend the next couple of hours limping. I hardly ever get in the car at home, I prefer the bus. Getting in and out of the car a couple times a day has been a PITA – literally
I'm going to put the washing machine to work as soon as I get home, have a nice hot shower and put my pyjamas on, then flop down onto the sofa with a big pile of sandwiches

Morning all. I hope you managed to get back to sleep HESTER. I'm a poor sleeper too but managed to stay in bed till 6.00 this morning. Though I had fitfully dozed and laid awake numerous times before that. How I long for a good night's sleep.
The promised rain that's supposed to be sweeping across from the west hasn't reached us yet so all is calm and still outside for now! Our bed needs changing but I think I'll leave the washing of it until tomorrow as it gets a better forecast for hanging out.
A few jobs are planned for today but I think I'll get the bus into town first for a wander round. It's ages since I was in B & M and hear it calling! Usually a few bargains to be had. The upright freezer is desperate for a defrost too so I think that will be the first job when I get back. I'll get a chicken out to defrost for tomorrow's lunch whilst I am at it. (I picked up a couple half price in Sainsbobs the other day.)
Have a good day all. JUDI I hope you are feeling better and did get a second opinion on those bruises. I've been in agony from pulled stomach muscles in the past, when I've had coughing fits from chest infections, but I've never had bruises like that. (((((((HUGS)))))) to all else in need. TRU I hope you got the curtain ok. (Your mention of Trago Mills was a blast from the past I'd forgotten all about that place. It was always a good standby on a rainy day!) Take care all xxx
Woops TRU posting at the same time re the curtains!!!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all, I will be messing about for a while and then go off to do a job. Might drop in and see a friend when I finish work. Need to do some cleaning, house is reasonably tidy but paintwork could do with a wash.
A good thing about working at a weekend is that I don't have to wait for 9.30 to use the ancient person bus passI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I got up nice and early today to leave poor hubby in bed so he could have a lie-in. He is still proper poorly with his knee but is hoping a weekend of resting it will help. The girls are going to have to help with taking Max for his walks though as hubby can't manage it. I predict moaning and groaning.
Finally it's half term, it seems ages since they went back to school and I know the girls are tired. Hopefully they will recharge this week and be ready for the next term. I don't think they have any plans as such, just going to the next town for some clothes shopping. DD15 needs to get new school trousers as hers have ripped and although they have been repaired, they keep tearing.
I have some wrapping to be getting on with so I will do that in a minute before anyone gets up. I'm expecting a couple of deliveries too today which I will have to find a hiding place for.
With that in mind I will love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Still dark outside but it's still and dry.
The dash down to Glasgow yesterday proved really quick, clear road all the way. Friends plane arrived a few minutes early and we got bs k here in time for lunch. We did try to have a walk but the rain started so we retreated to a coffee shop. Mind you the rain didn't last very long at all. There was a big pasta bake for tea and loads of wine. Oh, and chatting too.
Today, I don't know. Think we should go out, I fancy a garden centre just north of Oban, but will see what everyone fancies. I've got a delivery of wine coming so should be here to accept it.
Anyway, whatever happens I hope everyone has a good day.
Judi - can you go to a walk-in centre rather than your own doc? No appointment needed.0 -
Judi I too agree I would go to a walk-in centre if you can, even if its only to put your mind at rest.
Weather looking decidedly grotty at the moment ,but I don't mind I am not going anywhere today at all.I have some ironing to do that I didn't do last night and I have managed to get my hoover upstairs so will be whipping round with the duster and hoover this afternoon.
I have a stair lift at home as I am not good on stairs and getting a hoover up with it sitting on my lap can be a bit difficult.Eldest DD has flown off to Las Vegas this morning for a week and the youngest DD is working. So it was brute strength and cussedness that got my hoover upstairs this morning:):)
I want to get all the housework done and dusted by tonight as next week is half term so I will be out for most of the week with DD and dgs
I will put a vat of leek and tattie soup on this morning and I also want to make a chocolate tray bake for the boys.So no matter how wet it is outside I am keeping indoors in the warm.(even if it does mean I am cooking, cleaning and ironing ):):):) But NSD for me today at least
Hugs for the poorly folk and try to keep wrapped up warm.
Have a good weekend everyone what ever you are doing
Cheers chums JackieOxxx0 -
Morning everyone :hello:
Work for me today, looking forward to next weeks long weekend, wishing my life away. Wet and dark here this morning, only plus is that if it keeps raining there won't be so many fire works going off early, our baby girl is going mad with the noise. May be I'm know not looking forward to next weekend.
Dinner is very simple tonight egg and chips, haven't had home made chips for ages. Better make a move I have a parcel to post on my way to work.
Have a good day all. xx

Morning All
Wet and windy here this morning, the rain was really heavy in the night.
Judi - Get that looked at!
tru - Have a safe trip home.
Still not feeling too good but have had breakfast. I'm going to Glasgow to meet DD later this morning so will pop into Boots to get something to try to clear the yucky stuff.
Don't really need to get anything apart from some ideas for christmas pressies, we will probably go for lunch too, hope the weather clears up.
Have a good weekend everyone. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks, get well wishes for those who are poorly.
Yesterday didn't work out as planned as DOH had bad head and didn't feel up to going to see the film so I spent the afternoon laying on the sofa, enjoying my book and listening to the radio. But was obviously too rested and then didn't sleep so well :rotfl:
It's very grey and dull here but no rain yet, am hoping it will hold off until later as need to finish some tidying in the garden and still have some bulbs would like to get in. Also need to get over the stables and de-hair my boy a bit as he is getting hot when he works but those horse hairs can get everywhere.
Have one of my favs planned for tea tonight, bangers baked with parsnips and honey, maybe with a cheeky glass of wine
Good day everyone and take care x0
