Half sizes in shoes and slippers
I am at the end of my tether. I insist that I am a half size in shoes and that there is just too big a gap between sizes, despite the retailers' bluff and bluster to cover their obvious cost saving strategy of doing away with half sizes. At the moment I am looking for a decent pair of slippers for the winter which will fit…

Whites not white!
Hi All, Wonder if you can help. When I do a white wash, I put the machine on for a 1hr 30min cylce at 40 deg. I use Daz bio. I only put solid whites in, no mixes at all, yet my whites always come out with a blue tinge. Can anyone explain this?

Where do you buy your duvet covers from?
I used to buy them from Marks and Spencer or John Lewis, but I was looking at the reviews yesterday and they were very mixed. So, where do you buy decent quality cotton or polycotton duvet covers from which preferably do not need to be ironed and have poppers and not buttons? Thanks

household soap - green and and carbolic....whats the difference
Went to buy some household soap in order to make some home cleaning products as I was running low. In the shop they had the usual green as well as carbolic. Done a bit of looking around and it seems they are similar but not much is said as far as using carbolic for things like gloop etc Anyone able to clarify?

Can I use washing soda to clean my dishwasher pipes
In the past the pipes in the dishwasher got clogged, the pressure of the water went down so the dishes weren't clean. I got a man in to clear the gunk out, he said that I need to run a dishwasher cleaner through every month to keep the pipes clean. At up to £4 a go for these cleaners it's a bit pricey so is there a cheaper…

how to package cheap
hello! I want to return clothes, like jackets, that don't fit to the web shop I bought them from the problem is that I need to package them, as they often come with just a plastic bag-like package that has to be ripped in order to take the cloth out package material at post offices is often too small to fit it and is very…

Stinky towels
I'm more than a bit embarrassed about this. I'm finding that some of my towels are a bit whiffy even though they have been washed at 60. They smell ok when they are dry however as soon as they get the least bit wet they pong. Basically once you've run the towel over a wet body coming out the shower or, in my case, wiped…

Halogen Oven - Can't cook chips!
I bought a halogen oven and I struggle to cook chips on it. I place a tray of chips at the bottom and a tray above them on the stand. The top ones cook too quick and the bottom ones too slow. I find it is this way with most things I cook in it. Am I missing something? Everyone raves about halogen ovens but I fail to see…

Organic bananas
I refuse to pay full price for them which is around double the price of loose normal ones. On several occasions, I have bought a pack of organic ones with YS on them for 20-40p. I bought a bag of 7 on Wednesday and the four remaining ones still look as good as I bought them. If I bought loose bananas five days ago, they…

Dyeing linen and damask table covers
I have two white table covers which I would like to dye as I cannot remove the stains on them. One is damask the other linen and as both were pretty expensive id like to be sure the dye will take ( although they are fit for nothing more than the bin in their current state). What is the best dye for this type of thing? I'm…

Recycling underwear
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I've been having a clear out of underwear, I have somewhere to send my old bras for recycling, but am faced with a bag of old pants that I'm sure no one would wear but was hoping to find a fabric recycling place so I don't just throw them into the bin (landfill, waste,…

Alternative for oatmeal?
I've seen a lovely cake recipe in the Waitrose magazine which I want to try. It says 'medium oatmeal'. I'm just doing my online shopping at Tesco's and can't find any oatmeal, medium or otherwise. Is there anything I can substitute - I'm guessing porridge oats will be too coarse? Thanks
