OS Daily thread Monday 10th November
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, but looks damp underfoot but not raining or too windy. Yesterday was quite mild too, air doesn’t feel too cold either.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, it was delish and the crackling turned out beautifully (if you like that sort of thing!) It took quite a long time to cook as it was a large piece and was thick too. I served all the normal extras with it, roasties, mash, carrots, cauli/broc cheese, Yorkshires and gravy. There’s LO’s so I’ll buy some pickled red cabbage and coleslaw/potato salad on my way home from work today and that’s what we’ll have for dinner tomorrow night with some salad and hot potatoes. I can move the menu plan about to accommodate this. Dinner tonight will be smoked sausage pasta with a crème fraiche sauce.

The heating engineers are visiting today so I’ll hopefully come home from work at lunchtime to working heating and hot water! I have several phone calls/pc jobs to do so will be busy. I want to get the huge pile of clothes from the dining room table shifted to the various owners, although there’s a lot that needs ironing, and the dirty wash basket is full too, I haven’t wanted to wash much whilst I don’t have any heating though – didn’t want damp/wet clothes sitting about. I’ll sort what needs to go where and I’m sure there’s quite a lot that doesn’t need ironing so the pile will reduce a bit, then if I’m able I will iron it and put it into the owners rooms.

Feeling a bit apprehensive about going back to work, how daft is that, I’ve worked there for years and did go in on Thursday to see my boss after the hospital had said I was fit for work to sort out what hours I’d be doing on the phased return etc. I’m sure once I’m there it will be fine. Today I’m just going to be sitting in a back office, catching up on the hundreds (possibly into the 1000’s of emails that will be in my inbox!) and sorting out all my passwords and there’s been some changes to some of our systems so I’ll be shown what those changes are. It’ll be good to be back to some sort of normality.

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

    Good Morning all,

    Thinking of you today nmlc.

I woke up feeling anxious today, strange how you can go to bed feeling fine and then wake up all anxious when nothing has changed.

Will be visiting parents today, and then nothing planned for when I get home. Will need to do some ironing but probably do tomorrow.

Enjoyed watching Downton Abbey yesterday evening, going to miss having something to watch on Sunday evenings now.

Dinner tonight will be pork and vegetables.

    Take care all.

Off to work in a sec, the fish have been fed, hubby's had egg on toast & been dropped at work.
My new boots arrived just in time, it was frosty this morning & I was able to wear them & keep warm.
A colleague has been allowed to go part time, despite this impacting on the rest of the team as we have to cover her job 2 days a week. I'm waiting to see if my request will be accepted as my change of hours will not impact on my colleagues!
    Time I made a move.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone :hello:

First of all I want to thank you for all the support you've shown over my DD11's bullying problem. We are optomistic that the school will get it sorted and it helps that her head of year is a family friend who will keep a special eye on the situation. DD11 is still happy to go to school there so I am being led by her for the moment.

I am going to my first Slimming World meeting this morning with my sister. I am really nervous but I texted the consultant last night so I feel a bit more reassured. I've already done a shop for it so my fridge has never looked more healthy :D. I am making a cottage pie tonight for tea with lots of vegetables. I only just remembered to take the mince out so I hope it defrosts by this afternoon.

My friend is coming to take me out this afternoon as well so I hope I can cope with all this gallivanting around. She wants to go out to Dunelm mill and I am quite keen to have a looksie so I will grit my teeth and gird my loins etc etc. I would love to get my Christmas shopping done before the end of the month as I just can't cope with the december crowds. I am really stuck on what to get my mum. She is very glamourous for her age and dresses very trendily really. I might wait to see what offers Boots will have in the run up to Christmas or it will have to be a very boring voucher.

Well, I have to chivvy the girls along so I'll love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great day despite it being Monday. Take care xx

  • Good morning all,

nmic thank you for starting the thread, and I think it is only natural to be a little apprehensive about returning to work after you have been off for some while, you just feel like the new girl. After a couple of hours it will be as though you have never been away, after you have caught up with the gossip and anything that has changed in your absence, Good luck

It isn't raining today so far, yesterday was beautiful once the mist cleared. We had roast beef with all the trimmings and it was beautiful. Irish beef hung for 21 days and cut like butter.

We are taking DD shopping today so will probably pick up a few bits for us as well.

I wrapped some Christmas presents yesterday which was quite satisfying. I am like you DuMPLING, I don't like the crowds that December bring, so I aim to have all the presents bought by the end of November. Good luck with your Slimming Club this morning.

Hugs to all poorlies, take care

    Morning everyone.

NMLC - I'm sure that you'll be fine after the first hour.

Left home at 5.00a.m. and arrived at work at 7.10a.m which is unusually quick. Not much traffic on the roads and I find that the lorry drivers are happy to indicate a passing spot that early in the morning.

Getting on with work chores now.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Happy Monday

    Morning all,

Good luck for your first day back nmlc, sure you'll be fine & you'll soon feel you've never been away!
HH Hope your lesser hours get accepted.

Usual Monday sort out for me today, though its not as bad as usual as we had a GC free weekend unusually.I havent done my menu plan for the week yet but I went shopping yesterday so I have a bit to choose from.We had friends over for an Indian takeaway, not had one for ages.It wasnt too late a night as C has had shingles and still gets a bit tired easily.

Lyla is going to be in the doghouse tonight as she has started chewing one of DHs boots-the ones I spent £15 getting mended  He has a bad habit of leaving them where he sits & takes them off and i keep telling him, especially after the slippers the other week

Did some baking and made a ginger cake with lemon icing,Delia recipe, just fancied a ginger cake. The oven in this rented house is a bit dodgy though & the door doesnt shut properly so things tend to burn on one side, dreading doing the Christmas dinner in it to be honest. At one point we thought we'd be in our renovated house by then but no chance.DH knocked another wall out on Saturday, but the new staircase has now been ordered.

Anyway, good wishes to all, time for my dogwalking :D My knee has felt slightly better over the weekend so fingers crossed.

    Hi everyone,

We had a lovely time in Yorkshire although until yesterday the weather was a bit pants. We snuggled up with the wood burning stove on Friday and did some shopping on Saturday (I got a new phone which I love, the first time I've really liked a smart phone). Dh also bought me an antique jade ring or Christmas - it's being sized at the moment.

Yesterday was a beautiful day so we had a lovely walk although it was a bit long for me so my knees and hips feel very sore today. I'm off to work soon so I'd better get going.

    Have a good day.
