Dyeing linen and damask table covers

I have two white table covers which I would like to dye as I cannot remove the stains on them. One is damask the other linen and as both were pretty expensive id like to be sure the dye will take ( although they are fit for nothing more than the bin in their current state). What is the best dye for this type of thing?

I'm thinking of navy blue if that makes any difference.

I've also tried buying cheap white sheets to use as table covers however that was false economy as I've now binned several of them. Sometimes I think I have the most careless guests in the world!

Dyeing advice welcome.

Also as I've never bought dye before where do you pick it up - As*da etc?

You should have no problem dyeing linen :) The damask one might only dye the background and not the actual design, but this would look great in my opinion.

The 3rd picture on the following link will give you an idea of what effect you might end up with.

Dylon is the dye generally found in places like wilko, asda etc.

  • Wow - the damask napkins look amazing. I'll certainly give it a bash then. Will pick up some dye in Asda at the weekend and I have some time off early next week when I'll give it a try.

Will report back as to how it goes.
