Slow cooker worries
Hi all, Newbie here. I'm considering buying a slow cooker in the near future. I love the idea of having tea already cooked when I come home from work. However, are there any worries about leaving something like that (electrical, hot) plugged in all day whilst the house is unoccupied? Is there a fire risk? Any do's and…

Help me reduce my astronomical food spends.
Morning Guys, I wondered if anyone can give me any advice for reducing my huge food bills. I would be grateful for any meal suggestions etc. I shop online as we live in a rural area and the cheapest delivery is cheaper than me going to the shops, I also try only to buy offers but recently some finest things have dropped in…

Can I freeze home-made yoghurt dressing, without it separating when defrosted?
Can I freeze home-made yoghurt dressing, without it separating when defrosted? I have a vague idea that someone once told me it would separate. Which I don't want! Am I wrong in this guess? It's contents are: natural yoghurt, lemon juice, lemon zest, dried dill.

What's lurking in your freezer?
First of all, I'll fully admit to being a food hoarder. I can't seem to stop myself. Anyways, I haven't got any space in the freezer for stuff I'd like to put in there, so I decided to do an inventory.:eek: Who knew? Fish cakes, 2x potato and lentil soup, Diced lamb, Aduki beans, 15x meatballs, 2x portions of…

Dye from jeans transferred to chair - Help!
Some dye from my new dark blue jeans has transferred to one of my dining room chairs (which have white fabric seats!). Any ideas how to get it out? I was thinking using one of those white eraser sponges and white soap.

Help! No Microwave = Potential Fudge Cake disaster!
Hi We have friends coming for supper tonight. Knowing I wasn't going to have alot of time I succumbed to buying a ready made Chocolate Fudge Cake for dessert. Only after I got home did I realise that the instructions are to keep it refridgerated and then zap in microwave for 2 1/2 mins before serving. I don't have a…

Safe to cooked dried kidney beans in slow cooker for a few hours
I want to save money by cooking with dried kidney beans rather than the tinned. I am going to soak the dried beans over night. Now I am not sure about the next stage... Can I then just slow cook them for a few hours in my stew and they are then safe to eat? I know kidney beans need to be properly cooked to be safe to eat.…

Bread
All my bread tastes fine when it cools, but the next day it is yeasty and sour. I try my best to follow the gram measurements, but how do I do that exactly? I am almost about to give up after 12 months.

does anyone else do this ?
Many years ago when I first left home I was on a gas and leccy meter so learnt early to be frugal - we put frozen veg or tinned veg or beans into casserole dish in the oven if we were cooking anything in there for dinner rather that lighting the hob. Still do that and tonight put baked beans with a handfull of frozen…

Freezing/storing meals
Hi guys, I want to do more home cooking, but need some advice please on freezing and storing meals once I've made them. What containers do people use? What do people use for labels (I know you can buy sticky labels, but they can be a nightmare to wash off)? Are there any meals that are unsuitable for freezing? I got some…

Musical Instrument hire form template?
Mods please relocate as appropriate! I couldn't work out what this should go under. The situation is that my daughter (21) is learning the harp. Her tutor is going to be away touring soon and has agreed to rent us one of her harps for her to practise on, rather than us have to pay the £50+ pm rental, plus carriage, from a…

Amazon books- any reward systems out there?
I've been spending crazy money on books on amazon (usually the cheapest) and don't see the spend ending anytime soon. I usually pay with my card where there's a bit of cashback. Are there any point system that anyone knows of or buying through a cashback site? Nectar and QUidco apparently don't do it anymore.

Would you reuse water you boiled eggs in?
Odd question, but this came up on facebook earlier after I saw a curried eggs recipe (Jack Monroe) that said use the water you boiled the eggs in to cook the rice... I commented that I found that a bit gross. I have previously considered using the water then dismissed the idea as it seemed a bit yucky... Even worse now as…
