OS Daily Thread Friday 7th February

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

TGIF and maybe I will get some sleep tonight.

Long list of jobs to do at the weekend, so I need some energy and some inspiration/motivation to get going.

Need to rush as usual. Am trying to convince DH am getting too old to do this commute and we should sell up, move and rent until we retire. That went down like a lead balloon so will work on plan b ..... when I think of one!

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning All

Woke up early so decided to have a mooch about on here for a while. Typical, it's an in service day today so don't need to be in quite as early so could have had a bit of a long lie. Never mind.

Will clean and tidy when I get home, DD is off out and we are flying down south tomorrow morning. Really looking forward to seeing my DB and family.

Sausage with veggies for tea last night, including a corn on the cob which was lovely, not had one for ages.

Have a good Friday all, take care. XX
  • Morning all
DGD will be collected after work, taken to gym club & will then stay the night, sausages for tea as that's what she's requested.
Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each, hubby's on lates & is working Saturday, poor love will be shattered, still it's overtime & the money will be useful.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning All,
MIL passed away just after 8pm last night.:A
OH doing what he has to today, then coming to me.
I am at King's College Hospital today. Seeing my consultant. My cousin is taking me, hope the weather lets up a bit.

My improvised stir-fry last night (with spam!) was delicious! I'll make it again.

Anyway, going now, need brekkie before I go.

    Morning everyone

Hilstep - sorry to hear your sad news, but at least you, DH and your family and friends can take comfort that MIL is no longer suffering, big hugs x

Had an awful night – just couldn’t sleep – I did fall asleep on sofa at 9.30pm ish – then woke up at just after 1am – went to bed and tossed and turned so got back up at 3.15am – had a hot drink, spent some time on pc and went back to bed at 4.30am – but haven’t really been back to sleep, so got up at 6.30am – hoping I can last out until bedtime tonight without needing a power nap later this afternoon! I have these sorts of nights’ every so often – my brain just doesn’t shut down, I’m not particularly stressed or worried about anything either, but as it’s only occasional I don’t want to go down the route of taking any kind of meds iyswim.

Now getting light, it’s been raining continuously since sometime during the night, windy again too. Loads of standing water on the roads so not nice driving conditions. Forecast is slightly better for this afternoon, then really bad again for tomorrow with more rain and gale force winds. It’s not pleasant here but nowhere near as bad as down South, feel so sorry for the folk down there.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was spag bol, tonight the menfolk will be having chicken and bacon kievs, chips and beans, I’ll have fish or omelette with salad/jacket potato/veg.

Was reasonably productive yesterday, got the washing, drying and ironing done, still a little to do, but yesterday it was either not dry enough to iron or not washed as not enough to make a load. Have 1 load now in WM ready to turn on, so will leave that to do whilst I head out to the local town, need to visit the bank, a couple of shops, then do the food shopping. Spent some time last night checking the cupboards and trying to be more pro-active in menu planning using up things we already have instead of buying more and trying different recipes too, menu is getting a bit repetitive again. I’m hoping to get some baking/cooking done at some point today – as I’ve really noticed the difference during the week with how much more the menfolk want/need to eat if there’s no dessert/pudding to offer.

Have a good Friday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning :)

    Busy busy day today!

Yesterday I managed to make 2 batches of pancakes, mini toad in the hole, and a large one for dinner using another litre of milk (7/15 used)!

So today on top of all the normal stuff like dishwasher, bread making, tidying and looking after children... I have washing to do, 2 nursery school to visit, take DS to his dads, get a steamer from Argos (I won, DH Caved) go to lidl, tesco's for more UHT milk that's in date, and take shoes back to Brantanos!

So lunch today is LO Chicken Korma, and dinner will be some rolls and sandwich filler from MrT :)

    Busy busy!!

Hope everyone has a great day x

Hillstep. May your Mother in Law Rest in Peace x

    Good morning,

and it is a good morning here because it is not raining and it is calm. There's another storm on the way though - oh goodie.

Hilstep - my condolences. Thinking of you today at the hospital.

More pen-pushing today, and coffee with a friend down the road later on.

Sympathy to those who cannot sleep: my hip is painful atm and I am unable to settle as every position I get into hurts, unless I lie on my back - but this means I take up more of the bed and as DH occupies 75% of it (he sleeps in the middle:naughty:) the resultant struggle for territory is exhausting. Also, there is the guilty knowledge that if I do sleep on my back I may well rival DH in the snoring stakes :o:o.

It's a non-meat today so it's DH's favourite: SW chips and something with eggs alongside.

Stay warm, dry and safe x

    Morning all,

:bdaycake: Happy Birthday to JackieO. have a fab day xx

Hilstep so sorry about your mil, at least she is at peace now xx

Day off today (only one this week) so I made the most of it and lay in bed till 9, it was bliss, just having a cuppa. WM is on with a towel load which I will hang out today, and possibly put another one in later on, today seems to be the only dry day, we are to be hot but more storms at the weekend.

Dinner tonight is some kind of chicken thing, its one of those mixes that you put in a bag in the oven, never tried them but thought is might be nice for a change.

Shopping was delivered last from night and I must say the service was excellent and I got a free waitrose t-towel which I an ridiculously excited about !! ( I need to get out more).

Going to whip round and tidy this morning, then dd and I are having a nice lunch and this afternoon I will do nothing ! working all weekend so need a rest.

    Have good days all xx
