OS Daily Thread Thursday 6th February

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Good morning everyone :)

Another lack of sleep night and am exhausted again this morning, I think I will need a considerable amount of caffeine to get me through the day.

Weather sounds a bit wild but nothing like the awful storms in the southwest, I hope no-one here has been affected by it. I honestly don't ever remember a winter with weather like this. Have seen some extremes in cold but never rain and wind as bad as this.

Need to get a move on but will try and call back later for a catch up.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning :)

Yesterday my friend had herself a little boy, I'm so excited, she's asked us to visit tomorrow... I just can't wait :)

I'm finally getting organised, I ordered DD2 Christening Invitations, Thank You notes and a card from us. My friend is making the cake, plus a Gluten Free one (for 3 guests), and I've tracked down my family christening gown, and the Shawl DH and DD1 had for their Christenings. So just food to worry about :)

So today I have to wait in for a parcel (the Royal Mail no longer drop them at our local post office, so it's a 20 minute drive each way to collect them now!!!) so I'm planning on using another litre of the UHT milk (we're currently down to 9 cartons) and I'll be making 2 batches of American style pancakes for the freezer, mini toad in the hole for DD1 lunches (freezer) and then dinner tonight of toad in the hole.

I have to do all the normal stuff, dishwasher, bread, lunches, tidying etc

I hope you all have a great day today x

Good Morning chums ,dentist for check up this morning then home to stay in the warm and dry.Weather looks appalling at the moment ,although its dry its on its way and will apparently be bucketing down for most of the day.I am hoping to do a small shop later on today (first one this month) and that will be my lot for the rest of the week.
Might bake some cookies for DGS mid morning as they adore choc chip and I have several packets in the bottom of the fridge.
Hugs to the poorlies and downhearted and stay warm and dry if possible .The sun will come back and the land will dry out eventually
    Cheers chums

    Morning all
Damp here this morning & damper later.
Fish fed, Hubby & I have a cuppa each, I get porridge when I get to work.
Hubby didn't feel well y'day I'm hoping he feels better today, they are already a man down as one of his colleagues in on compassionate leave as his mum's been rushed into hospital.
Off to work soon, appraisals go back to the Head first thing this morning with employee's comments on & I've stuck up for myself, never a good idea, but f*** em, I react badly to bullies! I may go down, but I'll go down fighting. It's like having the sword of Damocles overhead. Still, whistle while you work, or in my case sing, I can't whistle, I working on the theory that if I keep smiling it will worry them as I should be a scuttling bag of nerves, well I am inside, but I refuse to show it.
I made turkey soup last night so I'll take some to work for lunch today.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Now light, still wet underfoot, as we’ve had rain and wind during the night but no frost here. It’s still windy but not as bad as other parts of the country.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight we will be having spag bol or something along those lines.

Work was a bit of a nightmare yesterday, went to the other office, and the IT dept were changing over all the pcs we work from, so we couldn’t get onto the computers until they had finished which made it a mad rush to be ready for opening time. Then the pc that I was using hadn’t installed everything correctly, so a vital part of our system was unusable, so I couldn’t do anything on the pc at all whilst they tried to solve the problem remotely, which they did after nearly 40 mins, I then dealt with 1 person, and had to go to the training session which lasted 20 minutes then had to go back to the office, where I had to log on to a different pc and had the same problem as the first one, so had to sit and wait for them to fix that – apart from the last hour and a half it was a complete waste of time going to work yesterday! In the last hour I assisted a very young couple who were lovely and in dire straits as his JSA has been stopped and he doesn’t know why, she’s working but only 6 hours a week, their housing benefits have been reviewed and reduced because the December wage slip she’s provided show’s extra hours due to Xmas which she never gets at any other time of the year, and they’d spoken to the housing association who said they had rent arrears and how much were they going to pay towards it, they don’t have any money whatsoever, so said they couldn’t pay anything, so the housing association said they would start eviction proceedings, and the girl has just found out she’s pregnant! I spent as much time with them going through things, and spoke to the housing association on their behalf and send documents off to the housing bens team. Also managed to (hopefully!) get them a referral to the food bank, also they should be going to speak to a charity project that should be able to assist them with budgeting, the food bank, any debts, and dwp. They were just so young and the guy was so trying to look after his fianc!e, they were so grateful for our help – had to hide in the kitchen for a moment on my own as it made me a bit teary – the day I stop having any kind of compassion/empathy will be the day I have to stop doing my job! Those that bring in the rules just don’t have any clue how it effects people’s lives and how do you live on the money allowed – most of the rule makers are born into rich families so have no idea what it’s like to live on jsa/income support etc. And breathe …………. Rant over………………….

Now on days off, so have all the normal chores to do, need to get as much as possible as I’m working Saturday morning.

    Keep safe and well x

JG - congrats to your friend!

I don't know what's wrong with me recently but I can't seem to drag myself out of being in the morning, so need to give pupster a long walk tonight when I get home.

Dinner will be something simple out the freezer, maybe some quorn with wedges and beans, need to do a clothes wash later and more revision.

Meeting went very well yesterday, so will see what happens!

It's 3 months till we jet off on holiday! wahoo.

    Hi everyone,

Hester, I hope things go better than you think, well done for sticking up for yourself.

NMLC, in another life as part of my job I used to interview people who got into mortgage arrears for the bowler hatted building society people. Sometimes it was heartbreaking looking at their income and outgoings and wondering where to start helping them. Mind you, I remember one woman who when I asked about any hP payments (this was 30odd years ago), she said, "there's the £300 for the pans" I had to ask her to repeat it three times I thought I'd misheard. Apparently they were very special pans!!

I managed to get a bit of cleaning done but am still feeling very tired so it's taking time. I had a call from DS who is under a great deal of stress at work again. He went through the same thing last year while dad was dying so I'm feeling deja vu. He's too conscientious, he worked 70 hours last week to try to sort things out and we're trying to make him see that constantly long hours was one of the things that made him ill last year. It is a worry though and one I could do without just at the moment.

I've arranged for a removers to bring the piano from mum's down and one of my brothers has been muttering about removing it from the estate. The fact is that it belongs to my youngest brother, the only one of us to play, and it used to be dad's. Youngest bro has given it to DD who also plays because he has no room for it and is moving abroad in any case. Who was it who said about vultures circling.

Oh well, it will all come out in the wash no doubt, I just hope we get through the funeral with some decorum, although quite a few people including me will have to bite their tongues in front of eldest bro, who didn't visit mum at all since dad died, even though she has been in hospital at least 12 times since May.

Better go, this is turning into a rant. Have a good day.
