A reformed ex frivolous spender
Hi, I got myself in debt by being frivolous. I learnt the error of ways but need to learn how to be more of a spend thrift than a spend a holic. I learnt of this forum. Does anyone have any advice

how much dylon to use?
I'm thinking about dyeing an old, fading skirt of mine using some Dylon, but I am confused about how many packets of dye will be needed. I was hoping to get away with just a fairly cheap hand-wash dye? The colour wouldn't need to be 'perfect', - I just want to make the faded areas look darker again and maybe get a bit more…

Cheap but healthy meals for December
Hey all Had a sit down and went through finances today and think Christmas is going to be tight this year-mainly because we are going away for NYE which seemed like a great idea when I booked it months ago but realising that I have to make the final payment in December is not great! :o Am determined that credit cards will…

Cheapest and/or best bread recipe you use?
Hi all, I have started using my bread maker instead of buying brea. They had an offer in Tesco where it was 3 for 2 on bread mix but that has ended now so it's back up to 66p a loaf. I am using about 5 loaves a week so this is not making it much cheaper than buying bread. Can you give me a cheap recipe that actually works.…

shirred waistband stretching problem
I've a couple of really lovely shirred waistband skirts and they have become very loose after washing. Is there a simple way of repairing them in order that they will hold up - they don't need to look perfect, just to hold up and not slip down! Thanks. Sally

Soot Sponge: Do I need one?!
I had an accident while being OS with some candles and there is now a slight black smudge where I have attempted to damp wipe the wall with a hint of water and washup liquid. I don't care but OH does and its a rented house. I found a special chemical soot sponge on a*zon for 5.99:eek: but this seems a ridiculous price for…

Clementine zest sub for Orange?
I have a recipe for orange pastry mince pies and a glut of clementines. Do you think clementine zest and juice instead would be nice? I know I would have to zest carefully, as the clementine skin would be much thinner.

Christmas cake batter
Hi! I made my Christmas Cake on Tuesday, abd had some mixture left over after filling the tin. I decided to make mini cakes in my muffin tin and popped it in the fridge (covered in cling film) while my main cake baked. I promptly forgot about it until now. Would it still be okay to bake do you think? Any advice welcome!

How to mend a small hole?
I wasn't sure where else to put this :) I have a thin black cardigan with long sleeves - I bought it on ebay and it has no labels so I'm not sure what the material it is but I think it's a jersey sort, quite stretchy. I've just noticed a very small hole in one sleeve - it's only maybe a couple of millimeters across, but…

getting rid of cigarette smell in bag?
I recently bought a nice bag, second hand, but unfortunately on the inside there's quite a strong smell of cigarettes. I've tried washing it, rinsing it a few times, putting some bicarb in it, putting vinegar in the final rinse, but the smell is proving to be quite difficult to remove. The bag is made of polyester, it's…

Blacking out windows without curtains/blinds?
Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I figured OS always has good advice! :j OH and I have just moved into our new flat :D Trouble is, the last tenants took the curtains as they were their own. The flat is forward facing onto a very busy and well lit street in London, so we get a lot of light into the…

How to rescue a soup needed for tea tonight
So i made a chicken soup out of the carcuss of sunday's chicken. I added onions and some sweetcorn, i had the intention for it to be a chicken and sweetcorn soup. I've added salt and pepper but it still just takes like watery sweetcorn with a hint of chicken. Wanted to have it for tea tonight, any thoughts on how to save…
