Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 22nd November 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning Chums .Well Builder Keith was supposed to return this morning, but he rang yesterday and asked if he could come yesterday instead so I said yes no probs, so my flooring is all done, and I am so pleased with the result.
DD (Shelley)rang last night and I am picking her up this morning and bringing her to my house for the morning as a change of scenery for her as she is getting a bit stir-crazy being at home, and I don't want her to venture out alone just yet
The weather has really been horrible wet and windy and not at all nice, but luckily as I have stashs of food indoors I am still staying away from the shops at the moment Haven't bought anything food-wise since 16th November :j
Decluttered cupboard under the stairs a bit yesterday as the Electric chap is coming tomorrow to put a new meter in so it was a case of if I didn't he would have to limbo underneath a load of junk:rotfl:Right hot porridge for breakfast I think to warm me up then school run with the boys and then off to pick Shelley up Have a good day everyone and keep wrapped up warm if possible
Cheers JackieO xxx

Good morning Jackie and to those who cross/follow,
After an awful night of wind and rain, it has finally stopped. I was tossing and turning best part of the night because it was all i could hear.
Jackie, glad your pleased with your flooring and a day early too.
I am going back to work today. I told my boss yesterday that i would be in, so they haven't arranged cover. I wish i'd kept my mouth shut now as i feel worse today. Never mind, i'll just keep dosed up.
Tea tonight is chicken in breadcrumbs with wedges and salad. Nice and simple.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning all,
We all over slept here so rushing round a bit this morning, off to work / college for all of us today. Had to pay online last night for dd's uni applications, it is becoming very real now
Dinner tonight will be burger in a bun, with wedges and sweetcorn, nice and easy for a friday.
Thr rain was terrible last night, so loud, kept me awake for ages.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good Morning All. not sleeping very well atm so been up a couple pf hours, but not done very much at all. DH not too bad following first chemo session although his fingers tingle if he goes to the fridge. Site of his line was a bit red yesterday when they removed the chemo pump so hope that's not going to be infected.
have many jobs to tackle today on all fronts so ought to get in that shower and get the day started properly soon.
Had to have repair man out to look at tumble drier yesterday...problems due to build up of lint in area below the filter. very cross with myself as I check filter itself every time and regularly make sure condenser unit is lint free - hadn't spotted this one. An expensive callout that I could have pre-empted myself. The thermostats had cut out (exactly as they should!) to prevent a fire so they needed replacing, but I'll be checking this area myself in future! have had machine for about 10 years, totally trouble-free thus far!
One of our dogs snuck off last evening when I went to empty the kitchen bin...eventually turned up nearly two hours later, very muddy and looking very guilty!
No interest in food today so not sure what will turn up for lunch or supper yet!
Hope you all have a good day today. Do take care.Resolution:

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Now getting light, looks like a reasonable day and its stopped raining (at last!) but is now very wet underfoot here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock.
Dentist was ok, was painful but she had done 3/4 of the work then said I could be numbed but as she'd nearly finished I didn't see the point, but will ask to be numbed at the start next time. She was running late, when I booked in at 10.10am for a 10.20am appointment they said she was running 20 minutes late, I actually went in to her surgery at gone 11.00am - not quite sure how they work out thats running 20 mins late!! She did apologise but then also said I can't do anything about it!!?? It's not the first time either, I was booked a while back for the first appointment of the day and I arrived at the surgery and she hadn't even arrived on site, will see how it goes, the Receptionist said that it's becoming a bit of a regular thing. I have a series of appointments (I've managed to book the first or second appointment of the day with the thought that she won't be too far behind schedule as it's early in the day!!??).
Dinner last night was in 2 sittings as I'd organised the meals around going to the school careers night, which we then didn't go to as it then turned out to be a careers night just to promote the school Sixth form and for those that want to stay on and study A levels, DS1 doesn't want to do that, and has applied and already got his interview date in January for his chosen college course. So boys ate first then DH and myself ate when he got home.
Dinner was jacket potatoes, boys had breaded chicken and veg with theirs, DH had some egg and bacon with a jacket potato and I had tuna and mayo on my jacket potato with salad. Tonight's dinner will be organised once I get to the SM. Have the normal list of chores to do today - need to go to town to the bank, food shopping etc. Today I will endeavour to get the remaining washing, drying and ironing done, also will try to cook/bake so I don't have to do that tomorrow.
Was reasonably productive yesterday, managed to get all the beds changed, bought the boys new quilt covers using MrT vouchers exchange so used 1 £5 voucher and then paid the remaining bit in cash. Will be having a look at what they have in the freezer section today and seeing if it's worth exchanging some more for freezer food, several people have said quite a bit of the food you would like stored in your freezer doesn't appear to be in stock - so will see what they've got before I exchange the vouchers. Would like to be well stocked before xmas if possible, it helps so much in January if stocks and supplies are plentiful.
Have a great Friday everyone x
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Morning all, think we got the worst of the weather yesterday evening as it was quiet in the night and is not raining now. Very sorry for all those poor people who have been flooded and especially the poor man who died in the floods. Jack the lab was sick again this morning and doesn't want to eat so will try starve and a light diet but I will probably have to do a vet visit, hope Luna is ok Bitsy
JackieO your builder sounds a treasure and glad you are pleased with your new flooring, have a nice day with Shelley. Hugs to all in need esp FS and beemuzed's DH and anyone else who needs one. Not at work today as we have an Inset day and have already worked the hours after school so a bit of a breather before the christmas madness starts:eek: Going to take DD to work and then do L**l shopping. Have a good day all£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.

Good Morning All
Sorry been MIA again, have had 2 awful weeks workwiseOH & I have now come to a massive decision re our business. We have given notice to our major client, they are horrible to work for, for us and our drivers so we decided no more. We have a chance to work the lorries elsewhere possibly so it is a risk but could be much more worthwhile in the long run. No one has to lose their job either as they have to be taken on by the new contractor. Anyway the upshot of that is I didn't realise how much of my energy was taken over by stress from this contract am already feeling less stressed & more motivated :j
So today - going to get my normal daily things done, DW, WM etc then I am going to get into store my summer clothes and get out the winter ones - something I have been meaning to do for ages! At the end of the day should have a bootsale & ebay pile too. Bootsale will be put away for next year and will get ebaying.
House isn't too bad , need to have a quick hoover around and s&s the bathrooms. Not sure what is for dinner, will possibly end up being egg and chips.
Well best get going - have a great day all.x
Redruby - I know what you mean - DD is starting to get offers - seems a long way away but guess it will flyby!x0 -
Morning all, it was really wet and stormy winds in the night and yesterday. I have escaped with just a fence panel down, but from experience know that the road at the bottom of the hill will be flooded to some extent. Hope it's passable as have to go to office this morning for a wee while.
Visit to son yesterday was great, we had lunch then went out to a HUGE lake near him and had a drink and watched the birds on the water. He is doing so well and his carers are just wonderful.
Planning to be quite lazy today after a morning's work and then gym trip on the way home. OH is coming for the weekend so will be doing some 'proper' cooking......toad in the hole with onion gravy and vegetables tonight. Lunch will be whatever left overs are in the fridge today.
Looking forward to the weekend as it's the final F1 race of the season and it's very exciting. Also a swimming trip with my son tomorrow. OH and I will find something to go out to as well I'm sure.
Hoping all the 'poorlies' are feeling better soon and those struggling have an easier time of it.'Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.' T S Eliot0 -

What a wild nightweather wise
Still looks murky out there this morning. I have a library book to take back today and need a few bits in Asda, then hopefully I won't have to go back in there until after Christmas
All the pressies have arrived and because I know that nobody will be here on Monday I will get some of them wrapped.
Bitsy I hope the visit to the vet goes well and that Luna is ok x
beemused (((HUgs ))) and positive vibes for both of you x
Essexgirl, some companies really push contractors to the limit, My DH used to get lots of hassle when he was on the road as an area manager, it isn't always the big boys either
Oh well DH has just got home

Morning everyone.
Hope you all survived the night.
H drove the same road as the poor man that died in Somersethe said he couldn't believe how bad it was, never seen anything like it. He wasnt in our Freelander unfortunately which made it all the more scary
I feel something else for me to worry about
Luna is fine and happy in herself, she had rice for tea and for breakfast this morning. Taking her to vets at midday to get her seen to as what she brought up was hardly digested
No idea about tea, H is coming back via Swindon tonight so if weather is bad it could be anytime.
Hugs and spoons all round xx
Miffy hope little Jack is ok xxx
EG sounds like the best decision for you and your business x
Tapper hope Louie gets on ok at check up.
