Heavy bread
Just looking for some tips about bread. Whether I use my bread maker or hand mix bread, it usually turns out perfectly edible, but a bit on the fatty side. I don't know if it's the flour (dove farm organic) or the yeast (Allinson) or my oven. I made bagels for the first time today and they turned out the same way.

Can't afford a trip to the hairdressers, try using socks to curl your hair
My daughter found this YouTube clip the other day which we followed and she had a wonderful head of curls the following morning. Now I have to find the best way to help keep the curls from dropping out as she has quite fine hair. Any ideas anyone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzJKdHglFck ;)

Anyone bought candles at TIGER before?
I went briefly into TIGER on Saturday and saw they do a big selection of candles in all lovely colours. I didn't have a chance to buy any, but was wondering if anyone knew if they have colour all the way through or just coated? I hate buying "colour" candles only to find when you start burning them that they are white ones…

Best kitchen cleaning product i've used....
I can't quite believe it myself, but it was soap! About a week ago I was in Shropshire and visited Blist Hill Museum, and bought a lump of Carbolic soap. Yesterday I decided to blitz the kitchen - now at the risk of letting you know how scummy I am let me just say I hate cleaning. Not like those people who say "My house is…

I dont really want to buy another but I heard you can make them in a sandwich toaster. Anyone make waffles without the maker ?…

Pans/Cookware for use in AGA
My dream is coming true and I will soon have an AGA. Yes ..... I know they are expensive to run  Nervous but prepared to pay running costs for luxury of having an AGA. Love their way of coking and a warm kitchen. Nice AGA shop tells me I cannot use my existing pans and bakeware as not efficient. I will buy a couple of…

Cake Making in a Bread Machine
I have recently upgrade my bread machine to a 'Lidl Special' and thought I would have a go at making a cake in it on its Cake setting. I used a cheapy Morrison's cake mix. Now the cake itself turned out fine and has been wolfed down BUT the problem I had was actually getting it out of the pan. The Lidl bread machine has…

Save water and gas on a combi-boiler
Not sure if this has been covered but as you may know there are thermostically controlled valves available which can be fitted for about £150 which reduce water and gas consumption on a combi-boiler. However you can achieve the same effect by following this procedure; * put the plug in * turn the hot tap on just enough to…

Plastic Basins - to use or not to use
Ok - so the hubby and I are at odds over this! I like to use a plastic basin in the kitchen sink for doing the dishes. I feel it softens the "blow" when washing glass and sensitive stuff ( he KNOWS I'm clumsy-duff) but he thinks they're germs harbouring "things" that are justr no good. We do also have a half-sink as well.…

Mould on home made jam
Hello all, I wonder if you could give me some pointers or to tell me that this "just happens" sometimes. I opened a jar of home made plum jam tonight and it had a spot of mould on the top. I made this last autumn, boiled to 220 degrees and checked for setting point using the cold plate method. Sterilized jam jars in warm…

Batch Cooking and Freezing Beans?
Hi all, I'd like to start putting more beans in our diet in an attempt to reduce the amount of meat we eat. My mum is giving me her old upright freezer next week too so since dried beans are much cheaper than tinned I thought I could batch cook and freeze... Does anyone else do this? I thought I could cook a mixture of…
