Can't afford a trip to the hairdressers, try using socks to curl your hair

My daughter found this YouTube clip the other day which we followed and she had a wonderful head of curls the following morning.

Now I have to find the best way to help keep the curls from dropping out as she has quite fine hair.

Any ideas anyone?

Another way is rools of cotton wool wrapped In tin foil :-)

I used to use that method and worked wonders :-)

My daughter has very straight hair and this is what is looked like, after a night sleeping with just 4 socks in her hair.

I know you are going to laugh - but good old fashioned setting lotion. Spritzed on, rollers in and left overnight. Squirt of light hairspray (Elnet) in the morning.

    She has lovely hair BTW

    Thanks Memory Girl! ;)

We have rollers but there is no way she would sleep in them but the socks are so comfy, she couldn't tell they were in.

Plus, some people may not have rollers but we all have some socks in the house.

My hair is really fine too - no amount of setting lotion/spray etc will keep curls done that way from dropping quite quickly.

The only way to make them stay is to start with fairly damp hair and some sort of styling product, then curl it up early in the evening or even during the afternoon - make the curls a little tighter than in the video as they will still drop a bit. Leave the socks in all evening, then before bed put some heat through the hair by holding each curl in your hand and blowing the hairdryer into the fabric of the sock, and through the hair around it. Keep moving from one to another so you don't get too hot and damage the hair. When you think the hair in the curls is pretty much dry, go to bed. In the morning when you remove the socks, you may need to turn the head upside down and blowdry it carefully a bit more if it is still damp. Hold the curls gently in place with your hand while doing so if necessary. Try to touch the hair as little as possible afterwards, definitely try to avoid brushing it! Finish with a spritz of hairspray.

I know the video is advertised as a no heat method, but experience has taught me that for my hair it just wouldn't work - and even a hot method won't hold for all that long!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

if she plaits it before bed,it will have a similar effect. My DD used to do that and I think the curls were a little tighter.start the plaits where you want the curls to start. Thicker plaits, looser curls.
