Marmalade making and muslin square
Hello all, This will be the first time I have made marmalade. I have made jam, jelly and fruit cheese before though. I would like to know whether it is necessary to buy the muslin squares to contain the pips and pith from the oranges? Can I just put the pips into the mix? Thank you :)

Baking times for scaled-up cake recipe - help!
Hoping a clever OS'er can help me!! I currently have a cake in the oven, the recipe says bake it for 1hour 30 minutes, but I've tripled the quantities - do any of you have any idea how much longer I should bake it for? Obviously I don't want to be opening the oven door every 5 minutes to check it!! It's this chocolate cake…

Getting over the embarassment
Compared to some of my friends I am very thrifty I think but struggle to get over the embarassment of trying to save money. I know it's silly but I still find it really difficult if I feel like people are judging me. Does anybody else get this? For example I paid for my shopping at Tesco using the self checkout tonight. I…

water tablets, alternative use?
I like to find a use for everything rather than throw stuff our, dishwasher salt on the drive came in useful during last winters freeze, and old aspirins often find their way into vases to refresh flowers ... what could I use an excess of diuretics for ? perhaps the more chemically minded reader could make a suggestion…

Homemade vinegar spray - smelling of vinegar!
Hi, After lots of reading on here i tried my first homemade cleaning spray for doing my swish and swipe with. Half vinegar, half water with a few drops of lavender oil. It still smells overpowering of vinegar though. Now whenever I go into the bathroom where I've cleaned with it I can smell vinegar. Is there such a thing…

Transporting Soup?
Hello Oh Wise Ones! I'm doing my best to bring lunch to work and my wonderful better half has made a yummy parsnip and ginger soup this week. However, I've been bringing it to work in a lock and lock round container and yesterday it leaked everywhere. I don't need to transport it warm, so a flask is unnecessary, can anyone…

Woolly jumpers gone all greasy *shudder*
Hiya, I have a couple of nice, woolly jumpers which was soft and gorgeous to wear when new, but since washing in the machine have all greasy to the touch. I have quite sensitive skin and actually cannot bear to wear them now, as they are. Has anyone got any idea how to rescue them now, or are they doomed? I have tried…

What would you do with old muesli?
Hiya, We've got some muesli that's been around for a little bit and has gone a bit soft. Mr BR isn't keen on us actually eating it as muesli (although I'm actually sure it would be fine!) so I just wondered what you guys might do with it. I'm thinking perhaps something like flapjacks - although I've never made one in my…
