Transporting Soup?

Options
Hello Oh Wise Ones!
I'm doing my best to bring lunch to work and my wonderful better half has made a yummy parsnip and ginger soup this week.
However, I've been bringing it to work in a lock and lock round container and yesterday it leaked everywhere. I don't need to transport it warm, so a flask is unnecessary, can anyone suggest a cheap easy way of transporting liquids safely to work?!

Thanks in advance and I'm really sorry if this has already been answered, I did have a look but got a bit lost!

  • If the soup doesn't have huge bits what about a plastic bottle with a screw top lid i.e a cola bottle.

    Hi

Even if you do not have to transport it warm a flask is probably your best bet as it is designed to carry liquids either hot or cold and there is little chance of it spilling or leaking.

  • We used lock and lock too and they were hit and miss. I've used milk bottles and water bottles in the past.

At the mo we are using beakers with a screw top lid, 79p in home bargins. We got 6 so I portion the soup up after I make it and they are ready to grab from the fridge. the hold 3 ladels each with room to spare. No leakages and been using for a few weeks now.

i agree, a flask is the best thing, the seal is a lot more substantial. your other option could be to freeze it and take the block to work, let it defrost during the morning and just heat it as normal. as a short term measure those resealable freezer bags have quite a good seal so you could put it in there and then in the clippy box, least it would have to wiggle through 2 things then.

i would def go and buy a flask tbh.

    Hi,
Why don't you freeze the soup in the lock and lock container ( or any container ) then take it out frozen just before you leave for work.
that way it will still be frozen and won't leak.

I use lock and lock and never had a problem yet. However I only put it into my car where it's flat and then carry it to my office - I have "little brown bag" (ie solid plastic, not carrier bag) so it is constantly on flat surface..

But when I was living alone at larger city and my dad used to sent me from weekend at his home with food (just in case I die of hunger :-)) he always used to send me with soup in glass jar from gherkins, or from pickled beetroot... That never leeked either!!

If it's not frozen I use one of those containers that you pull the attachers down and it makes it airtight but because they are a bit expensive I generally just use a takeaway container then freeze the soup so by the time I get to work it hasn't defrosted enough to leak.

    Hi sibles

I usually bring it frozen in a sandwhich bag (inside a carrier bag just in case) - used to use screw top tupperware but even they had to be wrapped in a bag just in case, and have since all gone AWOL after a period in a large shared house.

We had people over for snacks the other night and I had a flash of inspiration when washing a doritos style salsa jar out for recycling! Brilliant, I came in on my bicycle and not a drop leaked out - also a perfect portion size (300g - same as a heinz 'soup for one' tin).

I've only done it once so can't swear it won't leak at all with use, but I was pretty pleased with it :)
