Hiya,
I have a couple of nice, woolly jumpers which was soft and gorgeous to wear when new, but since washing in the machine have all greasy to the touch. I have quite sensitive skin and actually cannot bear to wear them now, as they are.
Has anyone got any idea how to rescue them now, or are they doomed?
I have tried washing them again but with very little softener but that hasn't worked.

I'd suspect fabric conditioner to be the problem...how about hand washing in shampoo? Wool is hair, after all..."She who asks is a fool once. She who never asks is a fool forever"
I'm a fool quite often0 -
I usually add white vinegar instead of softener, might help to remove the grease?Debt free and saving :j0

So, normal wash but white vinegar instead of softener?
Will the jumper still come out 'soft' though? Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

it will come out soft, I have very sensitive skin and can't use fabric conditioner. My SS thought he'd buy some as he thought it would make his clothes smell nice (I told him to try washing them more often and not leaving them on his floor till they could walk out of his room) except he put some in with my washing and my skin broke out in blisters. Switch back to vinegar, towels are lovely and soft as are woollens and my fleece. Give it a go. A thought though, what made the jumpers go greasy in the first place? Did you machine wash them? If so, I'd run a half cup of vinegar and some detergent through your machine on a boil wash first (nothing in the drum) just to clear it out.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. also, vinegar does not make your cothes smell if they're rinsed in it. it's great stuff.0

Fabric softener is basically oil, so I too suspect it being the cause.
If you want to remove grease you could soak them in warm water and borax or soda crystals (I've used both for wool before) which are very good at removing oils, then wash them without the fabric softener to rinse them out.0 -
Its definately the fabric softener. Don't use it! White vinegar is perfect with all washing, removes greasy residue and helps protect the WM against limescale! Winner!0
