There will be less guests than planned. Anyway to the point, I have diced 4 large chicken breasts and they are marinating in a curry and yoghurt mix and are in the fridge. Can I freeze a portion of this? Eamon

Defrosted mince beef with white patches on it - is it safe to use?
Right i hope i don't get flamed for this after my last mince question, but i took some mince beef out of the freezer last night to defrost and on checking it today it has white patches on it. Is this likely to be freezer burn? If so is it still safe to use? The expiry date was November so it hasn't been in there for ages.

I'm moving out into my first home and obviously need a new vacuum cleaner, (and much as I'd like to I can't afford a Miele) so my question is.... Do I a) go for the…

What to do with crappy potatos?
I have been given a bag and a half of potatoes which is great but they are not very nice. They fall to bits when boiling for mash and make horrid roasties. Don't know why though I wondered if they were quite old? Anyway don't want to waste them and just wondered if anyone had any ideas of what to do with them? Thanks

What fats are ok for pastry?
I don't think I've ever made pastry before. :o I dimly remember shortcrust is half fat to flour but I've a feeling my partner in Home Ec (about 100 years ago) did the actual making while I helped with the eating. :D I'm going to make a turkey and leek pie tomorrow and but I don't have any lard/shortening. Skint January - meal ideas needed please!
Flipping big car repair bill, so I'm having to cut back everywhere else for January until pay day on the 25th. So that's 26 days, and I have about £20 to spend on food. Fortunately I have decent freezer and cupboard contents so I reckon I can get away with just using that £20 on milk, fruit and bread for the next few…

Surviving January
Please point me in the right direction if there is a thread/guide already established to help me answer these questions. January needs to be a very cheap month, as it is other half's birthday (haven;t bought his presents yet!) and my mileage claim went in late so won't be getting that until next month. No cc's or OD to…
