• Send a polite PM to the Board Guide of the board where it is now, and ask them to move it back here :D If they agree with you that it's not about Grocery Shopping they'll move it back for you.

Having read your original post, my view is that what you have posted is not about Old Style stuff really, it's about finding the best bargain for foodstuffs in order stretch your £500 in the best way to fill your freezer. I agree with the moderator/board guide - it's best moved to the shopping thread.

OS is more about making the most of food you ALREADY have in and stretching meals as far as possible. It's also as about organising your home in OS ways.

  • I understand why it was posted here though, as all you OS-ers are so wonderful... And have such brilliant ideas in terms of recipes and meal planning :)

  • I have just stumbled on this thread and I agree with PP that the thread is suitable to the Shopping and Grocery board so I will not be moving it back here, if you disagree with us please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com [hope I got it right this time ;)]

I understand why the thread was moved, but I also understand why you wanted the thread to remain here. I also understand the board guides moving threads to 'potentially' more appropriate boards, but lately it's been making my head spin how many threads get moved from the OS forum.

Personally, I would hesitate before posting a thread here myself because generally, it would be the regulars here whose opinions i would like to read (so long as the thread is at least in some way connected to being thrifty/OS, of course).

To be quite frank, my personal view is that there is nothing OS about having a budget of £500 to spend on filling a freezer.

To many people, not just on OS, but on the rest of the site, a £500 budget just to fill a freezer is beyond their dreams and certainly their bank accounts for the next few years!

The real OS answer as to what to fill the freezer with isn't about money and certainly not about that amount of money.

It's about making do and mending.

It's about cooking from scratch and if you have extras left over, you freeze them.

It's not about going out and saying "I have £500 to spend on food".

But that's just my tuppence worth and I'm a grumpy old dumb blonde woman.

  • I think I need to point out that the £500 was given to us by my father in law for a christmas present and has to last at least 4 months if not more as we have had a major change in circumstances and for the next 4 months we will only have about £10 a week left from our budget to spend on food and treats sorry if I didn't explain the circumstances properly so it only works out about £125 a month for 4 of us plus any visitors so about £31.25 a week

My first thought was that £500 was an incredible amount of money to spend on filling a freezer too, but then it could have been for 6 months of food or even 12 months of food. In which case, it would be OS to make a freezer full of food s-t-r-e-t-c-h for a so long. And stretching is something OS'ers know a lot about.
