Homemade moisture absorber?

Evening all :)

Anyone ever made a homemade moisture absorber for small places? I have a dehumidifier but have to keep buying small tubs for down the bottom of the stairs. I had a look on the indexed threads and couldn't find anything.

Cheers :D

Yep, I've just bought loads of salt and put in my old containers, its working a treat so far and much cheaper.
Don't know how long it will last its my first attempt at not buying the refills for £3.99 each.
Will let you know in a couple of weeks.

Ooh LL, please do keep me up to date, I've just refilled my container. Oddly it's one I bought in Aldi but can't find any info. about how to buy replacements (not even a name on the box). Trying salt sounds like a grand idea!

Ooh that's interesting, cheers Janey :) I might use an old moisture absorbere container to see if that stops the salt spreading. HNY!

Use cat litter. Yes I know it sounds daft but its designed to absorb moisture and it works as refills for the little containers you buy for overwintering caravans.

My parents own a static caravan and they always place bowls of cooking salt in the various rooms in the van before packing up for the winter. When they return to the van a few months later, the bowls are full of liquid: the moisture in the air that the salt has absorbed.
