I've just read this on another forum but those little pots I believe can be carefully dried out in the oven and reused.
-edit-
Err maybe not I'm thinking of desiccate packages, when I buy capsules for home remedies they come with a huge pack of desiccate, even 100 capsules its industry standard to prevent the gelatine drying out, then they turn to dust.
You know maybe I don't know what I'm talking about actually and this post is old.0 -
Just found this thread via google
am so trying this out with stuff I have in the house (salt, tupperware dish, cheap all purpose cloth with holes punched in and hair elastic)
Why?
Had problems with the steam from my vaporiser causing my smoke alarm to go off for months!!! Council came too many times - after a short while - off it would go again
Bought a cheap indoor/outdoor thermometer the other day that came with basic hydrometer and noticed at a certain level the smoke alarm would go nuts!! Going off every few minutes no matter what I did
So here's hoping this helps:j

Can you put essential oil in the salt to give it a nice smell0
-
Not sure about essential oil but I know you can use potpourri cause ive used it. By the way, ive seen those dehumidifying crystals in the pound shops. We buy them for our caravan when putting it into storage. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I got to this thread by googling too
We have damp in our wardrobe. Would any salt in bowls help it. I also thought of silica gel. Any ideas much welcome. Thanks.0 -
Yes it would help. Just use normal kitchen salt. It's really cheap in big bags from SM - Mr Ts sell 3Kg for £1.10 and it lasts for years!

I've heard that you can use the silica cat litter as a dehumidifier - I've seen people online recommending putting some in a sock to leave on the car dashboard to stop windows fogging up overnight, so I'm guessing some in a bowl would work in a cupboard. That is assuming you don't have a cat as if you do, the cat litter might get damp ...0

Many thanks to you both
I don't have a cat, just a messy other half0
