Our local farmer has given me a very large shoulder of lamb from her capacious freezer. Very sweet of her, but I'll need to cook it today or tomorrow at latest as it is almost completely defrosted. I want to do Jamie's slow-cooked shoulder of lamb recipe, which takes 4 hours. Unfortunately, I don't get home from work in…

I was bought a JML food sealer (after loads of lusting for one) but am having some problems with it. I vacuumed a loaf last week and two days later found it covered in mould and loaf shaped(it had collapsed when sealed) There was also a red pepper that had "re-inflated"(if you see what I mean) but it was fine as…

Snacks for new year 7
Hi all My 11 yr old is coping pretty well with the transition to (big!) secondary school but on some days if her class is late down she's daunted by the queues for lunch and isn't always eating. She's fine really and will conquer the system in due course but I feel I should provide some healthy snacks she could stash in…

Old Fashioned Bread Tin- advice please?
I bought what was described as a baking bread tin for just £2.99, a bargain I thought. It is like a big loaf tin, but it came with a slide on metal lid. It is 17" long, 5.5" wide and 6" high. I have just put my dough in the tin for it's second proving and now am wondering if I am supponed to bake the dough with the lid on…

Fluffy wholemeal? Panasonic SD255
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I couldn't find a relevant thread to add it to... We did our first wholemeal loaf yesterday (opted for 50/50 strong white flour/strong wholemeal flour). Loaf was lovely, but a nightmare to slice. It was a lot 'fluffier' than a white one...very light and airy, and just folds…
