OS Daily Thread - Monday 28th September

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 28th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all

My OH says Thank you very much for all the birthday wishes and especially the pictures of birthday cakes!

Molly hon - I wish there was something I could say to help
Curly - HERE is the link for the mushroom kits we bought. A friend bought one about 10 days ago and already has mushrooms growing.
Bitsy - I have had kits in the past that haven't worked too so had given up til I saw the above! And I am sorry you are having such a hard time with your son right now, big big hugs for you, you have so much to deal with, I do admire you.
Mummysaver - it's the recipe that came with my bread maker but each time I have made it, the dough has been too sticky. I end up making Chelsea 'blobs' but they do taste scrumptious! Because I have written so much so far I will post the recipe later today, hope that is Ok.
Gerturdeanna - I did!! What a slacker huh? lolol Actually I was really tired so mailed Tris and told him I would be here a bit later than normal! I actually thought someone else would get there before me but it WAS Sunday I suppose!! giggle.gif
Lillibet - I saw that advertised and I did catch the end of it but to be honest it's the music and lyrics I love, not the man himself!
Thrift - I think clearly Allie and Ricky must be hot favourites. I love Natalie and hope she does well and Tuffers surprised me. I think that little Chris chap from breakfast TV is a bit of a dark horse, his rumba was amazing and its such a hard dance for the men. Next week is the Pasa which is my favourite favourite dance so hope there are some great ones though it seems a shame to have it so early on before the dancers are into their stride more and can do better with it. Last year I loved Tom from the start.
Noahs - I watch the X-factor on the repeat and I like Jamie 'Afro'and Nicole. Actually I think the over 25's have some amazing acts in this year. Btw, I hope you feel better soon hon.

Tris isn't so well - his addiction to his painkillers was stronger than they thought which doesn't help.

God, all I have done is talk about TV, you can tell it's been a lazy weekend! I better do some OS-iness or I will be banned from the Daily.. giggle.gif OK, so the BM is on, the washing is all up to date but needs hanging out later and lunch will be cheese and onion on toast and for dinner left over chicken from the birthday roast yesterday made into a rice and veggie dish of some kind, with home grown peppers and the last of the shallots and my first red chilli! It was gorgeous and sunny yesterday so hoping for another day like that today.

Hope you all slide into a gentle start to the week. Warm snuggly hugs.giffor anyone who wants one!

  • Morning, MSD, and all who follow.

Hoping for a frugal and happy day today, because it's Monday and I always feel a little down on a Monday (particularly a Monday morning). I've taken chicken out for tonight - hm sweet and sour, which will be nice with some noodles. I do feel like I've had a lot of sleep though - at least I didn't fall asleep through Waking the Dead.

    Have a good day everyone

Morning all, and lots of (((hugs))) to those who are unwell or anxious.

I've been MIA all week since our guests turned up. They left yesterday after a week that we all really enjoyed, and I'm missing them already. Mind you, they had to go - I've done barely any housework; all we seem to have done is eat, drink, stroll around in the sun, and talk, talk, talk! If they'd stayed any longer, Kim and Aggie would have had to call in! I now have a huge pile of ironing so, once I've cleared away the breakfast things, that will be my first job of the day. I should have started it as soon as they had left but we went to a book fair a few miles away (English books, so I had to go!) and I found three books that have been on my wish-list for ages. We didn't know anyone there but they were a lovely bunch and, once again, out came the wine!

Anyway, I'll try and catch up with the news over the next couple of days.

MSD - hope Tris is OK.

OS-wise, we're having chicken curry with basmati rice this evening. Last night was a very simple fry-up because it's all we felt like, after all the meal-planning for last week! Our visitors went home stacked up with 40 litres of wine from a local (very good) vineyard, lots of different cheeses, loads of garlic, and two big bags of potatoes - they fell in love with them once they'd tasted them.

Well, as we told them, they were our 'practice' guests, our first official visitors, and it all went better than I expected. I was worried because so much still needs doing here but I suppose a few glasses of wine and nothing matters after a while!

Anyway, I'm off to make another cuppa, then get DH up. He has a couple more days off so he's getting on with the bedroom we are 'making' in the attic; it has a very 'temporary' feel to it at the moment because we had to do it in a hurry so that our guests could have our downstairs bedroom (due to the husband's arthritis), but we actually like it up there, so it needs just a bit more work doing to it - like hiding all the water pipes, plastering the walls, and so on. It looks like a cave with a bed in it at the moment!

Anyway, the kettle is calling. Will try and keep up with you all today!

  • Morning all! Work today and we're very short staffed and its ward round so its going to be very very hectic, can't say I'm looking forward to it.
I don't feel like I can do any more extra shifts this week so will be feeling guilty if they ask me.
Got the ironing done yesterday. Tea today is to be risoles with left over beef, mash, a little mashed swede and carrot(disguised!)and a little onion gravy mixed up and fried in little patties. My mum used to make these and I loved them (with tomato ketchup on!) but I don't know what dd'll think-perhaps I'll put the ketchup in them.
I didn't have time to read all of yesterdays thread so hugs to all that need them.

    Goodmorning,
:TThankyou to eveyone for their supportive messages. I am feeling much better today, despite lying awake half the night, and have decided not to let it get to me. Easier said than done but I am back in fighting mode now. I was talking to my dad last night and he reminded me that Im a strong independent woman!!!! Im gonna fight my employers every step of the way and Im not having all this rubbish from my kids either.

Im bak to my OS ways. Washing machine is going on and Im going to dye some comfy trousers that have seen better days. My kids are at college/ school so I will have a nice quiet day. My home help is here today so thankfully she will do housework. That is the one good thing about being ill is not feeling guilty have someone do the housework!!!!

Hope its not a manic monday,
    Love MollyXX

Had a busy day Y'day DH had 2 assingments to get in for today , but thankfully they are done now, not typed that fast since i worked:o.

Was reminded by DD1 that it's harvest festival today at 3pm y'day, so knocked up some spiced apple muffins ;).

BIL - still the same, they are going to reduce his sedation to see if he wakes up:sad:, which hopefully he will

Ironing pile is still growing not done any this week, so much has piled up DD2 draws are almost empty :o.

 I bid for about 5 things from an ebayer less than 5 miles from me, and she;s just said she dosen't let people collect . How stupid now i'll have to pay P & P, when i could've nipped to get them . God knows how much it'll all come to one of the things is a door bouncer for DS. P & P will be more than goods

You know your getting old when you
go to the pub sit outside
and admire the hanging basket
    Is officially 48% tight :D
  • Morning all, hugs to those that need them.

After a lovely quiet weekend it's going to be another week of appointments for me although on Wednesday I'm off to see Cliff Richard with my Mum which I'm sure will be great fun. :j

BargainBird - it's a nightmare when eBayers do that isn't it? I purposely only bid on local items, mainly so that I can re-sell, and I hate having to pay P&P when they are so close. I think it's because they can make extra cash from this side the costs. Would they be prepared to meet half way for 50% P&P?

Having an NSD and NPD day I hope and planning to get some tidying done, limited by strength of my arm of course. I also need to get some washing done but I can't manage to peg out anything heavy at the moment which is a bind.

I'm aiming to get a loaf in the BM and an apple crumble made today with the apples from my allotment and maybe some muffins if I can manage it. Tea will be tuna steak and salad I think, although it doesn't really feel like salad weather.

    Good morning all

Another one here who had a rubbish night's sleep. Now having a peaceful half hour before the rest of the house wakes up.

OS stuff today - slow cook ham before going to work. Will then use it for omelete tonight and OH can use it for his sandwiches for the next couple of days. Found some late strawberries and raspberries in the garden yesterday so that's pudding sorted.

Curlytop40 - don't feel guilty about refusing to do extra shifts. I had to do an awful lot extra in August and it just impacts on health and home life so much so you have to find a balance. I'm now sticking to one extra a week.
    Molly41 - glad you're feeling better today
Diva - sorry to hear Tris isn't doing so well.

Hope everyone has a good start to the week. ((( Hugs))) to those who want/need them.

    Morning all,

Kathy nice to see you posting again, and I am glad you had such a good time.

The weather is set to be nice here for most of the week, turning colder at the weekend, yesterday i was out walking in a vest top, its great :T

Today I need to have a good clean through whole house, I think I have a wash to do and I need to do an online shop.

Yesterday I made some cookies, and some of Aussies Jam drops, not sure if mine came our right , the first ones were too wet and came out like cookies with jam on. So I added more flour and these ones look better. OH seemed to like them anyway :D

Ok better get on, have good days all xx

Btw, totally off OS matters :o I was wondering who are everyone's favourites to win Strictly? (apologies to those who couldn't care less:D). I reckon Ricky Whittle or Ali Bastion. I really like Natalie Cassidy and Tuffers though- hope they do well. Who you rooting for this year Penelope Penguin?

Ali was wonderful last week, but Ricky W was even better :T I also liked Leilia, as she looks so elegant. Very confusing to have more than one person with the same name though (2 Rickys and 2 Jo(e)s)
JUST POSTED THIS ON Y'DAY THREAD SO IGNORE PLS :o

I've deleted the post on yesterday's thread to avoid the confusion caused bt having 2 Dailies on the front page ;)

Last day of my 6-day weekend today :o I'm making a batch of blueberry and white chocoalte muffins to take to work, and a Latin American cassserole (with HG squash, sweetcorn, tomatoes and peppers :p). I'm going to make some more apple braid (uniced for breakfasts) and use the last of the rhubarb in some r & ginger jam :D

Have a productive Old Style day, everyone!
