thrift: I've been searching for your post with lunchbox ideas but can't find it, I'm probably being totally thick! Would love to read it so would be grateful if you (or someone) could point me in it's direction... DS2 takes packed lunches, he doesn't eat quickly enough to manage the pace of school dinners (unlike DS1 who gets through 2-3 portions!). Today he has a ham sandwich, a banana, raisins, 2 Twinks Hobnobs and some OJ, which is his favourite.
Not sure which post you mean Helyg. I think Cranky40 was just referring to my posts on the daily thread. I have posted on various threads about packed lunches though. The kids have got cheese sandwiches today though -nothing special lol!

Hadn't realised how late it was, no wonder I'm hungry! Going to heat up my leftover pie;)

After lunch I shall have a go at Tupperware Mexican Chorizo (mixture of pork mince, spices and wine) from River Cottage Everyday which will apparently keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks. Going to make meatball and chickpea stew with most of it this week and use the rest as a seasoning for pasta or rice dishes.

I'm also going to make a sausage and potato salad with mustardy dressing for the lunch boxes.

    Hi

re packed lunch...my dad looked surprised when I got ds's packed lunch ready last night. There was a spoonful of pasta bacon bake left from the night before. I put in the last bits of chicken from the table, decided it didn't look much so added a couple of new potatoes and a spoonful of mayo.

Mum tries to plan without leftovers. I regard leftovers as a bonus. Different way of avoiding waste I suppose.

  • I'm with you PupleIvy - I try to plan FOR leftovers (but usually when DH's kids are around there aren't any!).

Well, I cheered myself up at lunchtime today - I taught myself to crochet! I bought a book on amazon a couple of weeks ago, and got a couple of hooks from ebay, then got 2 balls of wool at the weekend.
It is actually easier than I thought! I've managed to make a 'granny square' already, and now have to decide whether to start again, or carry on & turn it isto a baby-blanket/shawl....it's a bit uneven in places, but not too bad. Suppose I could make more squares and sew them together, but I like the idea of a whole piece IYSWIM?
Am feeling quite pleased with myself! Have never mastered knitting, and although I still machine-sew, my hand-sewing & embroidering/tapestry days are few & far between due to psoriatic arthritis, but I think this crochet lark is easier on the joints, so hopefully I will be able to master it!
Patterns still look a bit too daunting though....

  • FE - :T on the crochet i started my first bit of crochet begining of Aug and have justs donw 1 big square, so used 5 balls, 3 balls to go then it's finished ;). It's much easier than knitting :o. I've already got my eye on scarves for xmas and hats with flower on for DD's;). I get my books from the libaray :money:;)

BIL - Has been taken off sedation, he is breathing by himself, but we are just waiting for him to respond or wake up. Dr's said it may take a few days as he's been under sedation for a week. So if anybody could other one up for us we would be eternally grateful x

  • Fairy Elephant I successfully managed a scarf with a flower in crochet and have wrapped it for my niece for Christmas. I'd never attempted anything but granny squares either so it can't be that hard or I wouldn't have managed it!

Despite my plans for a baking day, I've done very little but make some cards and gift tags for Christmas. Good fun but hardly edible.

I did mean the daily threads thanks. I love seeing what other people are doing for packup. I have no food imagination..... Some people can look at raw ingredients and see a ready cooked meal. I could look at a plate of veg for half an hour, and it would still just be a plate of veg IYKWIM. The first time my friend told me that she was going to stir fry sprouts with garlic, I was utterly amazed.

Oh, and I never saw a ready meal while I was a child, so it's not lack of cooking skills that's the problem :rotfl:

Tea is sausage and lentil hot pot.

:)You must have a look at this gorgeous blog FE. Lucy who writes it is expecting as well, she was blogging about a baby blanket she's just finished.
  • Bargainbird Good news about you Bil,I will remember him when I have my usual word with the Almighty tonight before sleeping
Taplady Mark Billingham is really good my Dd's favorite (he's actually on Facebook with her) I have about 80 pages left to read and I daren't pick it up or I'll not get a thing done this afternoon.
valk_scot My DD bought her daughters college tops and hoodie and has only washed the hoodie once, and already she has had to sew it back up as the pocket at the front just came apart. The uniform for Mid-kent college is ordered from a firm in Faversham and quite honestly their quality leaves a lot to be desired but the girls have to wear the tops as when they go on placement next month its mandatory that they have them on.Both my DDs daughters are doing the same course at MKC. NVQs in Childcare. 4 polo tops a hoodie-type jumper and a jacket cost £67.00 altogether, a real rip off as they are only light blue polos with a MKC logo on them
I have had a good morning .went to Aldi's and got my F&V and finished my September GC £4.20 under budget and am very pleased with myself.
Tonight I am back at my part time Uni course.just starting year two of a CCS so I'm looking forward to that. All my shopping is in for the week and everything i had on my to-do list has been done today so apart from college tonight I am quite well in front of myself. hope everyone is having a good day
    cheers JackieO
