see these being sold in the local shop for about 65p a bag. would like to make my own wee stock so what would be good for it and how long would it keep?

Whatever you like really!
personally, I'd buy a big cheap bag of peanuts and raisins, and then add some cashews, some chopped dates, maybe some crystallised banana chips and pineapple...
If you store them in an airtight container, I can't see the mix going off anytime soon...
as a sidenote, you could also try making your own muesli cereal along the same lines, using dried oats as a base. Serve with chopped fresh apple pieces and a splash of yoghurt for an extra-healthy breakfast:cool:0
