Never made it myself, but I do put Worcester sauce in my shepherd's pie, so that would probably go
I'll add this to Mince and Tatties later

Another vote for the Worcester sauce - I usually put that, a bit of tomato puree, the stock cube and a few herbs.
And occasionally the odd splosh of red wine if there's a bit left in the end of the bottle - doesn't seem to be much left very often though. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

When I make mince n tatties I do this:
1. brown mince through.
2. Add 1 chopped onion (for about 500g mince) and boiling water to cover well, and simmer for approx 45 mins.
3. Add chopped carrot (and also neep and peas if you like) and cook for another 30 mins....until there is not a lot of liquid left.
4. Leave to sit for a while off the heat.
5. When ready for eating add an oxo (Knorr stock cube) and more water if you think its too dry.
I always use local (Orkney) steak mince with as little fat content as possible. I find cheap beef mince makes disgusting mince n tatites and it needs to be steak mince.
Today I am making pie and so have added carrot, neep, peas and also a dash of worcester sauce and some chopped tomatoes too. This will be topped with mash made from ordinary and sweet pots.

I put some Bisto in at the end of the cooking time to thicken it up a bit and to add some colour and salt. (Don't need extra salt if you use Bisto because it has salt in it already.) But not the ghastly instant granuale Bisto...the real sort, that you have to mix up with cold water. Much nicer!Val.0
