Some pastry questions
Hi all, and hope you can help. DH recently had his gallbladder out, and has taken a resolution to cut his saturated fat intake. Very sadly he has decided that I shouldn't cook with butter any more. He is allergic to most margarines, so I tried making pastry with Waitrose Olive Oil spread and it was really horrible. So I…

Hi all, In a bid to be more healthy, I am searching for some fish dishes for the kids. The thing is, I have never cooked fish before and feel a bit squemish about the whole thing. Is there any way I can cook fish without it be too 'fishy' an experience ?!? Thanks :D

Sneaky Healthy Eating - any tricks to share?
I recently had a brainwave, which was all those horrible crumby bits at the bottom of the Branflakes packet, well I saved them in a tupperware container and when we make rice krispy cakes, i add a load to the mix. It gives them an extra crunch and its healthy too. No-one else knows they're there though...... I also put…

homebaking help please

Tonight I have made some apple pies, but I keep having the same problem as when I make mince pies, the lids keep puffing up and rising off the pies. Potato Croquettes Recipe
Hi to all. Here's a recipe I use to make potato croquettes, it's easy to do, they taste great and are useful for using up pre-cooked/old potatoes. Of course they save money over buying factory made shop sold versions and also reduce a bit more plastic packaging going to land fill. 1 Pint Cold Potatoes 2 Tablespoonfuls…

For my daughter working full time, I have exhausted myself, coming up with wheat/dairy free lunches for her. We have covered, salads (tuna nicoise, prawn with corn pasta, chicken salad etc.), spanish omelette and soup. There is no microwave. Does anyone have any suggestions? She is not on a gluten free diet, just wheat…

Horrendous smell from washing.
I've been drying washing on an airer in my flat, usually leaving it for a few days. I've had a few occasions of it smelling damp and had to rewash it. A few times over the last year I've had an altogether different smell. Very strong and, well, it smells "sweet". Another way of describing it might be onion or garlic like.…

HO NO not another HM Bread question...
..yup afraid so ;) What would make my HM bread from a kenwood breadmaker come out more spongey (on the way to a crumpet texture)? I follow the basic bread guides to the letter, although the measuring jug for the water leaves a lot to be desired, but have found the 1kg loaves dont seem as spongey as the 500g and 750g ones.…
