Chickpea & tomato stew?

I want to make one but wondering if anyone has a recipe? Going to have it with corn and courgette muffins on the side. I was planning on cooking up onion, chickpeas and value tinned tomatoes (or fresh if the greengrocer's got any she was about to chuck out). Can I put anything else in it to make it more interesting?

I make a basic tomato sauce and then add the (canned) chickpeas to heat through. Sauce is onions and garlic fried off in olive oil, add tinned tomatoes, salt, pepper, a bit of sugar, tomato puree and some basil/oregano. Cook on low heat for ages to concentrate flavour (perhaps in a slow cooker), or for 15 minutes at a higher heat to get to the required consistency. You'll find lots of recipes in a similar vein on here - see the recent pasta sauce thread.

I usually add some smoked paprika or chilli powder etc. makes it a little more interesting

(and the value tinned toms may have more flavour than fresh depending on the toms)0 -
i would fry off some chorizo first and then add the tinned toms and chickpea's, that will give it a lovely flavour...0

Chickpeas are good in a middle-eastern type dish. How about adding some Morrocan seasoning and serving it with couscous?0

It just so happens that I have a jar of nameless spices that my Syrian uncle gave to me - probably just the thing to liven it up!0
