Quick question-soft potatoes
Hello, I've just been going through my larder and found some potatoes right at the back-had no idea they were there and they are quite soft. Are they still ok to use? I was going to just put them on to boil for mash. They have sprouted a little, but not much. Thanks in advance

Magic multiplying food!
I have always mainly cooked from scratch but thanks to the OS board I've got much better at baking, bulk cooking and making "something out of nothing". What has amazed me is how far food now goes and that's starting from a "no ready meal" point where I thought I was doing pretty well! My freezer is now full of bulk cooked…

cooking from scratch or buying ready made?
i was thinking about the pros and cons of making everything yourself from scratch or buying mass produced ready made meals, sauces, etc from a social point of view isnt it better to say have one big factory producing food for the masses with heavy duty machinery, than every single person having their own tools and going…

Long shot asking here, but don't know where to start! My husband is away for the weekend and I have managed to accidentally leave a leaking frozen bag (don't ask how, it's complicated and stupid) on top of a very expensive piece of furniture overnight. I discovered it this morning, and naturally enough, the veneer has…

How to get crayon off a table??
Hi all, hope someone can help me with this. My neighbour recently left and gave me her table (which is great as I have 4 kiddies and it is a six seater table!). Anyway, the table has green wax crayon on some parts which seems to have gone into the grain of the wood and I wondered if anyone had any idea how I could get this…

Got a built in elec cooker (ie like built in gas hobs but just electric "hobs") at the moment in a fitted kitchen. Any quick ways to "roast" garlic, please?
Hi there  I'm making Nigella's hearthbreads for lunch. To make the garlic paste she advises roasting the head of garlic at gas 5 for 45 mins. As I'll be baking the bread later, this seems a waste of gas for one garlic head ;) Does anyone have any ideas for how I can do this more economically, please; using a…

Hi all, I'm hoping I can get some useful opinions and advice... We're getting married just before Christmas and for several reasons I don't want caterers. What I plan to do is have two buffets.
