Why is my dough so Sticky?
I've had sticky roll dough, sticky loaf dough and sticky chiabata dough.
I've managed to make the final bread but its not good enough, imagine trying
to form and shape very, very sticky dough, its impossible.
Any tips?

Are you making it in the breadmaker? I find my Panny produces quite sticky dough and I need to add more flour to knead it.Piglet

Some flours dont absorb as much liquid as other, maybe try a different brand or batch0

Just knead a bit more flour in before cooking, it'll be fine (it's a great deal easier to add extra flour to a wet or sticky dough than to add more liquid to one that's too stiff!).0

I use tesco value & tesco bread flour and if I put in the 'right amount' it is too sticky and results in a sunken loaf so I add an extra 3/4 of a cup of flour and it comes out perfect..
If I am making just dough in the BM and using it for rolls I add an extra full cup otherwise it won't come out of the silly machine.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Ok please can someone help, i have been making bread in breadmaker for a week or 2 now and its not been too bad.
Today i decided to try granary bread, did it this morning and figured i must hve been half asleep as it was really really sticky so i assumed i just forgot one cup of flour.
Done it again this evening and its doing exactly the same argh. What am i doing wrong?
The only thing i can think is it says for water 1 5/8 of water, so i did one cup and then as the cup doesnt say 5/8 i did 1/8 level five times, is that not right?
I just can't get my head around it grr.
I have added more flour but i think its too late.
Would like to know for future though, am i just being completely dim? Wouldn't surprise me but i can blame the pregnancy brain lol.
HELP lol:o0 -
If it's any help 1/8 of a US cup is 30 ml, therefore 5/8 = 150ml.
I avoid recipes with cups as they confuse me totally!! (The above is from a fridge magnet, so I'm sure its right) LOL:wave:0 -
Lol thanks i will compare.
Anyone else?0
