Apple Butter ??
My DD gave me a jar that was given to her as she doesn't like apples. Its gorgeous, and I had it spread on toast this morning .Anyone else tasted it.The lady who made it flavoured it with cinnamon, and I was wondering if I could put it in a Victoria sponge cake with fresh cream or do you think it would curdle the cream.…

OMG... Christmas - and I'm on the hook!
After many Christmases of being cooked for, it's finally rolled around to being MY turn to host. I'm really keen to do it as impressively as possible, but it needs to be as Old Style as it can be, too. The reason I want it to be impressive is the guest list, namely:* my DH - a wonderful man who deserves a wonderful family…

I've just been given a 3lb bag of grated cheddar cheese and I could do with some ideas on how to use it up without an instant coronary. I thought about making and freezing pizzas and cheese sauce to have with cauli etc. (Can I freeze cheese sauce??) I have also been given a large bag of red onions. Any ideas ? Thanks

What do I do with Chestnut Spread
Last year I bought a jar of Chesnut Spread from France, and I don't know what to do with it. Do you just spread it on toast like chocolate spread, or can you make something with it. If so, does anyone have any recipies. I had thought of making a cake, and using it instead of jam?? Love some ideas to use it up as I hate…

Inexpensive dates.
Hi Everyone, I have recently worked out mine and OH's SOA which was quite shocking. I then worked out what I think is a reasonable budget which will enable us to pay off debts in just over three years but still have a decent standard of living. I have allocated a small budget for "date nights/days out" and wondered if…

Uses for fatty beef?
I bought a joint of beef from Tesco, not realising it was a 'rolled' comprising about 40% decent quality meat and 60% stringy fatty beef that's chewy. Is there any use for the stringy bit of beef that could turn it into something more palatable? I hate throwing anything away, but it's truly not very pleasant to eat - it…

flantastic
Have just gotten back from holiday in Spain where we again came across the "flan" (present at pretty much every dessert where we were). I also spent some time in South America, where a friend taught me his mum's recipe - and as I hadn't made it for ages (and inspired by holiday), have just made one. Very OS I think -…

low cost waterproofing
I have previously bought some expensive products to re-waterproof tents and clothes, and a friend of mine said as a low cost option you could use car dashboard spray from a pound shop as it contains silicon. I wondered if anyone knew if this was correct, or if not are there any low cost alternatives? Thanks Steve

Southern/Curly Fries Seasoning
As part of cost savings last time we were shopping, we bought Tescos own brand french fries (approx £1.60 for 2 Kg) instead of our usual McCain Curly or Southern fries (approx £2.00 for 750 g). We've just had them for the first time tonight, and whilst they where nice, they're obviously not a patch on McCain's offerings.…

Thermal curtain lining fabric - which "side" to use?
I have bought some thermal lining fabric to line my curtains. I didn't notice in the shop but when I got home, the fabric is different on both sides - one side is like a canvas texture and the other has a slightly fluffy, moleskin texture. Anyone used this before and know which side should face the window and which the…
