Essential food items for a family of 5

Hi,

My bro and his family have just moved and have nothing in their cupboards until they get paid in 3 weeks. I want to arrange a food delivery for them of essential items but items that can be bulked out to make as many meals as possible for 2 adults and 3 children. Also lunches for the kids to take to school.

She doesn't cook too much but I want to try to encourage her so am going to send my old copies of Easy Cook as I think that's a fab mag for family cooking.
What would you consider the best options? I have come up with:
Pasta
Potatoes
Beef Mince
Tinned Toms
Cereal
Herbs (??)
Milk
Bread
Jelly (for kids desserts)
Fruit
Veg
Chips
Meat
Cheese
Eggs
Yogurts

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I dont have kids so not sure if there's anthing else I would need to get.

Thanks

  • Not an expert, but have 4 kids. Thought of flour, plain and s.r. cheese spread, jam, noodles or spaghetti and crackers. and possibly powdered milk, so the adults can use in tea and coffee, freeing up proper milk for kids. Also carrots, frozen peas, baked beans. I would buy large tub of plain yoghurt, instead of flavoured, can use with tinned fruit for breakfast or dessert, also on porridge. Any fruit that's on offer and possibly raisens. HTH. Oh and Birds Eye fish fingers

Dried milk could be used to make pancakes as well as in drinks.

I can't really add anything, aside from maybe lentils and some basic veg and a small amount of meat so that soups & stews can be made :)

Just wanted to say what a nice person you are to do this for your brother and his family :) xxxx

Raisins or some other dried fruit (to put in lunch boxes or make crispie cakes), cheap rice crispies and some melting choc, sandwich spread, jam, squash, cheap fizzy water, washing up liquid, washing powder, hand wash or some nice soap, vinegar, ketchup, tuna ? ?
Other than that I think everyone has covered it, plus I just want to say, that is a nice thing you are doing.
